@@ThePandaGuitar You're saying because he said play it slowly, he was simultaneously insinuating you could play it quickly? The point of playing it slowly is to master the technique and gain speed relative to skill, without losing the quality. I'm not sure you read the comment correctly, or interpreted the video accurately if you think he's a "lazy ass" lol.
A common problem for students is that they cannot play a phrase cleanly at half speed. Until you resolve the problems you are having at half speed, you can’t play cleanly at full speed. Progress happens in increments.
you're turning into the bob ross of the youtube guitar community (i say that as a compliment), that "there's no rush, there's nowhere we need to be" was so relaxing. btw I still wanna hear your baroque guitar with distortion

I can definitely see - or rather, hear - the resemblance. A very relaxed way to communicate. I like it. Bob Ross (love his work) rekindled my dad's love for painting before dad sadly passed away.
It isn't that much. Not so surprisingly, those styles of music communicate a lot. They do have a lot in common, and most sensibilities start with one and after a few years discover how they get an almost opposed yet quite comparable pleasure listening to/playing the other.
I would say metal has a lot more in common with classical music than classic rock, for example. I have a hardcore metal head of a friend that started playing classical tunes because he recognized a lot of what he was already familiar with in it when I played.
A lot of metal musicians are heavily inspired by classical music, and you can kinda think of modern metal as rock meets classical. There are some *very* symphonic bands out there, check out Wintersun for a good example, if a bit in the extreme at times.
I probably should have phrased myself better. I was more so shocked because of such a drastic change in person to see his past as a headbanging metalhead with a mane to such a chill sexy vampire ya know
Man, for real, you should make a video telling us about your metal years, show us a few compositions, the rig you used... that would be awesome. Also, you really are the Bob Ross of classical guitar, and that is a great compliment.
There’s nothing better than learning from someone that actually knows about his or her craft. Brandon knows what he’s doing. He doesn’t stutter. His knowledge just flows. It’s admirable.
I'm seriously considering lessons in Classical guitar now, after many years of playing Rock and Metal. Even more encouraging to know that's where you started as well! :) Thank you for these videos and the inspiration.
I also started on the electric guitar, playing metal, then rock n roll, then blues, and now I'm mostly playing Bach and some paganini (on electric guitar, but I'm planning to buy a nylon)
Brandon... you helped me improve my guitar technique so much, it is unbelievable! First off, let me give you my background. I hold a bachelor's and master's degree in guitar performance (Boston Conservatory and Florida State, respectively). However, my playing was always flawed due to lack of solid technique. I simply didn't know how to improve... so I gave up. I didn't have any concept of slow, methodical practice and had no idea how to improve at the time. Fast forward 40 years (yes, 40 years)... I just purchased a used classical guitar a couple months ago. I haven't put it down since. Using your spider crawl for a myriad of technical issues... pull offs, hammer ons, and slow/ fast alternation. Well... it's like a miracle... setting my metronome to excruciatingly slow tempos in the beginning, I have now increased my speed to 120 BPM for 16th notes using fingers i and a. I was NEVER able to do anywhere near this before while at the conservatory or at grad school. I cannot thank you enough... speed was such a stumbling block all my life. I just can't believe that by modifying your spider crawl, I have improved that much in a matter of months. (Granted, I practice now at an average of 6 hours per day... but still!) Thank you so much!!!
This man is so calm, and well spoken. Hes so clearly passionate about what he's teaching and that passes on to the viewer. Could easily become my favourite youtube guitarist.
I'm a classical guitarist for about 6-7 years and that must be one of the best possible warm up routines you can create, it's the routine my teacher created for me from the very beginning and he was very serious about me followin the program, now I'm considered one of the most talented and best sounding guitarists in my country thaks to this routine. Also when he said "There's no such thing as "too slow ". Everyone plays too fast. " that's something I truly hate but it's 100% right and it's the best advice ever.
I was needing exatly that! Your tips are very helpful, especially for a begginer like me. You are one of my greatests inspirations dude, I hope one day I can play the guitar like you!

I'm a pleb and i have an acoustic guitar trying to play the classical way or classical pieces. I do want to say though, Brandon has helped me out immensely when it comes to learning tips and tricks. I'm going to be getting a Spanish guitar soon and right after, I'm signing up for his online courses because of what an amazing teacher he is.
Few people realize what an amazing resource we get today in 2021 from people like Brandon Acker and other TH-cam guitarists. In the past you’d learn a lot of that from personal guitar teachers or from printed books. But here you get a lot of it for free from him and other guitar you tubers. No one here has an excuse not to become a proficient guitarist.
This man is brilliant. This kind of content is hard to come by! Meaningful stuff, coming from somebody who actually plays well. I wish a lot more people come to your channel. Thanks Brandon!
I just bought my first classical guitar the other day. Been playing for like 14 years but have never touched classical, really. Now after years of playing metal I'm going back to school for classical guitar of all things! Feels like a weird thing to do in your mid 20s but fuck it, ya know? This channel is largely what inspired me to start down this new path and I'm grateful for it.
I think that's exactly what beginner self-taught players need to know to solidify their knowledge and practice of the guitar. Solid basics, quality over quantity, graduality over quantity. Checking all your videos, slowly (!) Thank you Brandon!

Man I'm so thankful for these videos, they are so beautifully made and so helpful and interesting. I've actually started playing a lot more classical guitar since a few weeks ago because I got inspired by you.
Hey Brandon. I'm an adult student of guitar. I love your attitude and presentation. Your tone of voice is something extremely refreshing. Please keep doing what you're doing. I love the performance videos, your introducing videos, and your tips. I think together they help my stay interested and if I'm interested I practice. Anyway, thanks.
I played Bach's Gigue in E m. back in a college recital. I went into a sound room where someone was playing piano. I picked up a stand up bass and played it for ten minutes. Then I performed the Gigue and I couldn't believe how fast I played. I got a standing ovation.
If you want to step this up, I would recommend humming the actual note you are playing and trying to be in tune with it. While it doesn't improve your technique, it at least helps you get to remember faster which note is where on the guitar, and you might improve your singing voice, depends on your goals though. Thanks for the exercises, I will implement them into my starting routine and see how they work for me :)
Brandon still out there asking me to subscribe, while he already the soul stone he captured me in to enchant his beautiful guitar. Man, you have to let me out there. I promise, I subscribe to you with all my other 6 accounts once I'm out.

I didn't realise how important warming up is. I used to get super discouraged when I would make mistakes while playing and this made things so much better.
I discovered you a while back on Rob's channel and only the past week am I diving into your channel and I LOVE these basic practice videos. As a poorly self-taught guitarist - these clearly laid-out foundations are a gold mine. Thank you - perfectly presented.

You have the knack to explain things clearly. Have noticed that in your videos with Rob as well. This video series that you've started to do is really good!
Mr. Acker u are the imbodiment of everything a teacher of any kind should be. i admire not only your skill which is pretty obvious even to someone not enjoying playing, but your patience and love for the instrument. Your lessons and advices motivate me very much to continue learning and become much better guitarist than i am at this moment. As soon as i im able to sit up straight without pain im going to rewatch all your videos and try my best because i love the guitar and i love you!
Its nice to know how these exercises are meant to help. I recall being taught these but never taught why to do them or how I should be thinking when I do them.
I am new to the guitar but have over 30 years on the clarinet. This is one of the best videos on the subject of proper warm up - if not THE best. Kudos 👏
Frank Gambale's chop builder has many things I use for warming up. For efficiency with a pick I like to use a more downward pick motion for low and then more of a upward motion for higher strings. I also like to try to play different dynamics sometimes when warming up because I like jazz sond even some modern metal and rock stuff has different dynamics. These are pretty good too.
Thanks! I like the idea of doing a video on ornaments. I might just do that. Though I'm not a fan of cross-string trills. Classical guitarists in the 70s invented them to imitate harpsichords, which is a mistake. For early music, use normal hammer on/pull of trills. That's historically how they were played and it is a very different effect.
Hi Brandon. I'm impressed with your teaching. It really reminds me of when I first started learning classical guitar, back home in Spain, in the 80s! My teacher gave me all the basics: from sitting, hand positions, varieties in plucking, tuning etc… it's so refreshing to see all of it, plus other new things, in your videos. Really well done. Pleasure to listen to you.
Wow ! It’s the content that my teacher teached me on my first guitar lesson. For two years, I insist this kind of practice to warm up for 20 minutes .And now I find a better way :scale😃. Here provide the beginner just like me with a small but useful advice, shoot a video for what u have practice and watch it carefully to find ur mistakes and find the way to improve it.GO PRACTICE!
I do Jiu Jitsu too and this is the same stuff my coach says about warming up for training. It’s crazy how this stuff is so transferable in life. Great video.
One day I forgot to warm up, and damn, it does make a difference. I woke up and played in the morning without warming up and I could not play a riff, solo, or a song right. I picked on wrong strings, muting problems, fingers not in sync oh man. After that, I try to start with just stretching and scales, skipping strings, and other 'warm ups' it worked for me since that day and never played without at least warming up or stretching. I'll try these warmups next. Thanks alot man.
This brings me back to the early days of studying through Henrique Pinto's introductory book. It was never that much exciting, but seeing it presented like this is almost unfair to everybody else trying to get their students to practice. I hope you also do a follow up with more intermediate and advanced warm up exercises.
Keep making videos Brandon, soon the world will find your channel and enjoy your unique skill set. I have played guitar my entire life, and you have inspired me to practice more often.
I'm absolutely enthralled by your videos, Brandon! I've been following you since the first Rob Scallon videos and I just find your solo videos immensely calming, even the ones where you talk more than you play. You've a very peaceful tone to your videos and I get super happy whenever I see that you've posted something.
I've been playing about a month, with a strat so definitely not a classical style, but this channel has been the greatest thing I've found to boost my knowledge. Really awesome work!
It's curious how this helpful information didn't seem to be there for students back in the 60s. At least I did not run into it. You had to discover them by chance. I studied Classical, and Flamenco music in college and played full time as a rock musician. Getting proficient on the instrument was not easy back then, for the reasons stated. This is a great video for beginning guitar students, but also for those guitar players who have some bad habits ingrained in their playing due to improper warm up and practice routines. Thanks.
And I've been playing classical for 8-9 years, so there is nothing new. But I still love them. The classical guitar is a hidden gem most people don't know about. Great that people like you spread the word.
I have never been so at ease with a Guru teaching the basics. The best is you take away the stress and complexes associated with a beginner like me. Kindly make more videos for beginners. This warm up video is great. There are a ton on TH-cam , but this is the best for me for its simplicity and motivation....I know its a silly questions but pls if you could say. In the ones do you alternate with your middle and index finger and with the pick is it down up or just down down....
Thank you, Brandon. I began teaching myself guitar about a year ago and I've been committed to doing these exercises daily alongside my scales since watching this video (despite some initial reluctance) after some frustrations with a lack of accuracy in my playing. Slowing down and taking the time to warm up my fingers has seen a great increase in the quality of my playing, and by proxy, an increase in my enjoyment of the instrument. Love the thoughtfulness, care, and enthusiasm you put into your teaching. Keep it up!
Wonderful helpful videos from Brandon. Been playing at home for years and find that every video helps my overall perspective towards the enjoyment of playing, getting better, and shedding unhelpful notions of rushing. "Nowhere we need to be" ... enjoy the process.
There's something about your way of explaining and your voice, that really motivates me to be patient with myself and keep on practicing... You can tell there's a lot of Spanish guitar knowledge in you, (as a latin american I am so proud). Thank you for sharing you máster tips!! I hope I can play like you one day. Kisses from México 💜
This is one of five videos on TH-cam that have a deep impact on my guitar life. Two of the others (posture and tuning by ear) are also from you. Thanks for these lessons!

After that, I try to start with just stretching and scales, skipping strings, and other 'warm ups' it worked for me since that day and never played without at least warming up or stretching. I'll try these warmups next. Thanks alot man.
Wow, this guy is a legend!!
This brings me back to the early days of studying through Henrique Pinto's introductory book. It was never that much exciting, but seeing it presented like this is almost unfair to everybody else trying to get their students to practice.
I hope you also do a follow up with more intermediate and advanced warm up exercises.
The passion you have while playing and talking about it is inspiring. I wish you all the best
This guuuuy! 😭🙌🏼👏🏼
Thanks for this Brandon!
Brandon is a blessing to us , His voice and calmness just makes his videos magical, Thank you for these educational videos Brandon.
excellent teacher, very efficient, I recommand this video
How can anyone in their right mind dislike this video.. great as always Brandon 💖
"Mindful..."
Yes!
Thanks youtube for introducing me to this great musician !
I play the banjo and I find the neck exercises transfer over perfectly. Very useful, thanks.
Thanks.
I love these
And I've been playing classical for 8-9 years, so there is nothing new. But I still love them. The classical guitar is a hidden gem most people don't know about. Great that people like you spread the word.
@@lars7334 Same for me. I have played for 10 years but these videos are just amazing to watch.
Five Stars for Pedagogy.
Thank You!
"Nowhere we need to be" ... enjoy the process.
everything aside your voice is sO calming
There's something about your way of explaining and your voice, that really motivates me to be patient with myself and keep on practicing... You can tell there's a lot of Spanish guitar knowledge in you, (as a latin american I am so proud). Thank you for sharing you máster tips!! I hope I can play like you one day. Kisses from México 💜
We need a video on stretching!
Thanks so much for your videos :)
your videos are like meditation for me. so calming
This is one of five videos on TH-cam that have a deep impact on my guitar life. Two of the others (posture and tuning by ear) are also from you. Thanks for these lessons!
This is a perfect warm up
Wow!! I loved this lesson ❤ Thank you so much! It helps a lot for sure
Now I really want to see you shred some riffs. I would love a classic/metal crossover ;)
Check out the brain dance by animals as leaders, it fuses both :)
actually the most helpful exercises that someone has recommended
