  • Hi, I’m Ian, The content manager and student under sifu Joel. I wanted to give the channel a touch of variety by telling my story of how I came up in the ranks and what experiences I endured with the test. I’m hoping to share some insight and give a positive outlook for those who are pursuing their goals, or are looking to relate with their own experiences.

Hi Ian, I was there when you tested at Ekata. It was an awesome test... as I recall you never backed down. Even with an injuried shoulder you told the instructors you were ok to continue. The test was nearly over anyway, but stopped at that point to avoid further injury to you... so, amazing job keeping your head about you, and kudos to your instructors for caring about your well-being! Congratulations on all you've achieved, and I hope you keep having fun!

I had literally just turned to Sifu Ed and asked if he’d seen enough. He had. We were just letting the round end. Unfortunately, Ian got injured before it did. And yes, that fighting spirit he demonstrated is one of the main reasons he was awarded his black belt.

Hi Sheryl! I really appreciate your comment. Unfortunate injury aside I had an amazing experience with a ton of insight to pull from it. I hope things are well!

I look forward to seeing video of your black belt test. You do have a black belt don't you? In what art? The name of your school, your instructor, and then names of your judging panel who awarded your black belt? In addition to my own black belt test and those I've sat on the judging panel for (including this one), I've also been a guest at several other black belt tests. They all differ in their goal. "Full contact" is a subjective statement. What you likely mean is to swing as hard as you can. What we mean is to apply the appropriate amount of force. Even with the full contact gear, trained martial artists must restrain themselves to a degree. The hits will go through the gear and hurt or injure the person assisting the test. Usually a fellow martial artist and friend. I've hit and been hit harder by my friends "holding back" than what likely you and most of the other "full contact" people out there could manage. But please post a link to your full contact sparring that you did during your black belt test.

@@evolutionJKD - no I don't have a black belt - but I studied muay Thai (and something similar Kun Khmer) - worked out and sparred with some of Richard Bustillo's boys before he passed - black belts are for show off monkeys - bet you're a fan of Gary Dill - who became a Grand master of JKD after one year or training - and has the audacity to award a 9th Dan to a woman and says she's the highest ranking woman in JKD - clowns one and all. Black belt 😂🤣😍

Ha ha ha!! You just admitted that you don’t know shit about anything!
I’ve trained with three different Thai champions. Puk, Pong, and Malaipet.

Still not seeing your name, video of you, or even who you trained with. Of course, you don’t seem to have actually watched the video, because you’re not replying to the content.
You also haven’t bothered to find out who I am.
So far, you’re just a keyboard warrior.
