the horrified concern after Turbo Granny's first lines, and then the DICTIONARY DEFINITION of "gobble".... HAHA priceless, had to rewind a few times 😂😂
Funny side note, if you read the manga, the picture of the president in Ken's tabloid magazine at the beginning of the episode is a straight up depiction of Obama.
I agree, it's definitely like the old anime we used to watch which was super niche when anime in general in the west was niche. I feel like what makes those types of anime is a mix of Japanese culture, language, spirituality, fanserive, weird stuff, usually shonen, and it's not quite beginner-friendly. Also, in reference to the female MC's short outfit, that comes from the gyaru subculture "kogal / kogyaru," which you see in anime through the generations, but I think was more popular in the 90's and the 00's. Actually, seeing the main character use a flip phone is another classic aesthetic that goes back to older anime which is cool to see. Anyway, enough rambling, I look forward to episode 2!
I love this show so much I legit read the whole manga in one night. You are in for a RIDE. By the way, Ken Takakura was a real life Japanese actor in the 60s and 70s, think the Japanese equivalent of Clint Eastwood. The kid who lost his family jewels just happens to have the same name.
I went and watched the show on Crunchyroll before going to reactions. I can't blame any of you for freaking out. I haven't been weirded out by an anime this much in a long time! 😬😳😂 I almost peaced-out during the aliens part (WTAFFFFF!!), but for the sake of the rest of the series, I'm glad I hung in there. "I don't know what I just watched" is exactly the type of feelings I had when watching early and niche Japanese animation like FLCL ("Fooly Cooly"), Paranoia Agent, Excel Saga, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. ESPECIALLY Evangelion!
Lololol peace’s out, I feel you . It be like that . Me in the past would have turned it off right then and there lmao. But loving this show so far !! Glad you stayed in there too.
I'm only about 30 chapters into the manga, and so far it's really good. As others have said, it does a great job of making you uncomfortable but not going too far. I'll also say (at least from what I've read) it really balances a number of various elements, (somewhat juvenile) humor, drama, folklore, and even romance. It's definitely a romcom. Also, this is less of a spoiler and more of an explanation for those weirded out by granny, and I think the manga does touch on it, but from my understanding turbo granny's motivations are less sexual and more vengeance (for young women who have been victimized).
9:40 - WELCOME TO OG "ORIGINAL STYLE" JAPANESE ANIMATION, EVERYONE!! When I started watching anime, I ran into some shows that will do shocking stuff (and worse), and "Eff your Western sensibilities. You WILL deal!" 😂😂😂
oh wow yall are fazed by this? lmao im unfazed but i am a veteran of anime, but this anime gonna be a blast you can bet on that based on this first episode xD
Yeah the manga is the same as the anime, they just tossed you right into the shenanigans. Also they’ve followed the manga pretty closely so this exactly how it’s supposed to be
This show is so crazy, its right at the line of uncomfortable and unexpected without being TOO much.
It’s nice to be watching something at the same pace with you guys
Yesss🔥 We’re looking forward to this one !
Guy on the left had the best initial reaction to the first weenie line that I've seen.
