    I respect that frame paintjob my man. Not to mention that interior looks great. Beauty. How are the BF goodies? Did they end up cupping at all? I was looking at those and the Destination MT/2s and went with the latter.

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! I appreciate it! So far the BFGs have been pretty good on this truck with no cupping. I only put about 5k miles a year on them. I had them on my daily driver 3rd gen, it went through them faster than I'd like but still a good tire.

    Only complaint I'd have, always starting in 1st "granny" and not 2nd; personal preference, living around these things for over 30 years. My grandfather, my mom and my dad all drove stick diesels never used 1st unless they were parked uphill or pulling a trailer with equipment from a dead stop

      Or in a parking lot slow speed maneuvering

    • @Ciulster
      @Ciulster ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. Though he may have 3.55 or maybe even lower final drive gearing judging by how long he was staying in 3rd gear at those speeds and how little he used 5th. Taller final drive gears may make 1st gear actually useable. My truck has 4.10 gears and at the speeds he was just starting to to shift to 3rd I would already be in 4th. 1st gear is essentially useless for anything other than the above listed purposes haha.

    Questions. I own a 1992 W250, immaculate condition (I do all the work on my truck but I didn’t install everything myself).
    Back story, my kill switch wire crimped on my parking brake, shorted the circuit, then caught fire. (I fixed it), but here comes the issue, now my Speedo and tach DONT work. Where should I look? All wires seem fine and all fuses are good.
    1) where is your tach wired up to?
    2) why could my speedometer not be working all of a sudden (the tach stopped working simultaneously)
    Any help is appreciated.

  • @OvensGarage
    @OvensGarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice, I just picked up an H1N and was trying out the same audio recording style. I like your vid! Is your truck straight piped? Also, the gauges on your dash, is there a hole in the dash for the wiring?

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The truck has 4 inch system with a muffler. I'm unsure of brand, it was in there when I bought it and I love the way it sounds as is. It pained me, but I drilled a hole for the wires. Was tough to bring myself to do it on a mint dash. As for the H1N general consensus is to not run the gain below level 6(5 and below has a lot of floor noise for some reason).

    • @OvensGarage
      @OvensGarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EngineersGarage1 Yeah the truck sounds great! I love the look of the gauge pod without the wire running down the front of the dash. Really neatens it up. Good to know about the H1n. My gain was set around 3 or 4 when I recorded my audio. I'll have to look at that external gain setup you've got.

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man! Trying to keep the truck clean, simple and traditional. Long answer on audio stuff although you didn't ask for it: That dual setup I have is recording each mic as left and right into one stereo file. I use Audacity for splitting that file a separate "Left" and "Right" file. One file will be engine bay noise and the other exhaust. Once that's done you can change the audio levels individually in post processing. This allows a lot of control over the balance between engine and exhaust noise vs one audio file heavily dominated by engine noise. Its a work around compared to having better recording equipment, but not too hard. Good luck!

    • @OvensGarage
      @OvensGarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EngineersGarage1 No I do want to know exactly how you do it! I've been interested in seeing how other people are recording their exhaust etc lately because it really does enhance the video quality overall for youtube. What do you use for editing software? I use davinci resolve and you can split the stereo audio file from the zoom h1n before you start editing it in the timeline and then you can adjust the decibel level independently for the left and right audio channels in the timeline without having to use audacity and then importing into your video editing software. I just ordered a comica cvm-ax1 since I already have the two lav mics, this will hopefully work to adjust my channel gain before it goes into the h1n and then I can set my h1n to the optimal level instead of around 3. Keep the vids coming! I subscribed. Nice rig.

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm using VSDC editor that cost me $20. I figured since I'm just starting out on the youtube thing I'd keep my cost low before I jump in fully. I have been eyeing Davinci resolve for a while now but haven't taken the jump yet. But those features alone are sounding well worth it! It's a lot of file juggling the way I'm handling it right now. That cvm-ax1 looks like a great piece, I'll be watching to see how it does for you. Thank you! your truck is mint, I subscribed too. I appreciate it!

    Nice truck. But why did you switch from the getrag to a nv4500? Just curious to know if there was a benefit or just a personal preference. Also what size is your exhaust pipe?

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Well the truck was originally an auto. I have a slight preference for the nv4500, I like the way it shifts over the getrag. The getrag is good still and the nv4500 sometimes has the 5th gear backing off issue. So both transmissions have pros and cons. If this truck came manual I'd leave the getrag.
      It's a 4 inch system with a muffler. Not sure what brand.

    What gain level did you have the mic set at?

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My setup is only single channel so I'm using a breakout box to run two mics into the a Zoom H1(which is at 6). That breakout box has a very sensitive gain adjustment, so that adds another variable to the mix. I've been fine tuning it for future videos.

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Search on Amazon for Comica CVM-D03 Dual Lapel Microphone. That's the dual mic set up, the leads are nice and long to run one to the engine bay and one to the underside of the bed.

    • @OvensGarage
      @OvensGarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EngineersGarage1 Thanks, I'll look that up! I was just using a splitter for left and right audio channels in mono to record two audio sources but the gain was set around 3 or 4. I like the idea of extra gain sensitivity adjustment.
