I'm 54 years old I went to see "A New Hope" in 1977 at the age of 9.5 at the cinema with my father one sunday afternoon almost 45 years ago. Talk about you learn something new everyday I think I knew of probably 3 of the 101 facts on your splendid video pa!.
That bit about the holo-chess characters blows my mind. What attention to detail! I love knowing the people creating Star Wars love it as much as the fans do; it's not "just a job" to them.
The most interesting bit to me was that the Death Star's aiming at Yavin was not added until post-production. Imagine that not being in the movie, the final fight wouldn't be nearly as iconic.
@@hefoughtabear118 Yep. There's even a really good documentary on TH-cam called something like, "Star Wars: Saved by the Edit." It mentions this exact edit plus many others that DEFINITELY made the movie much better.
"...So he didn't have to follow any real-world physics or rules", yeah, tell that to the TH-cam "plot hole" nitpickers community. I love that Lucas always thought of it as fantasy more than science fiction.
I saw an interview with Mark Hamill where he talks about the change from Starkiller to Skywalker. He said they brought him in for the reshoot and his first thought was that instead of reshooting it he should ADR it and use the camera angle from the back. But, they wanted that line where the camera is on his face. Great list!
During the meeting on the Death Star there was originally a line of dialogue filmed which identified Vader as a Sith, but this was ultimately cut out of the final edit. So the actual title wouldn't be spoken onscreen until the Prequels came out.
Ah, I see. I had wondered where certain EU projects had gotten that word before it was actually mentioned in Ep. 1. Most notably, author Timothy Zahn had misinterpreted Vader's "Lord of the Sith" title and wanted to use the Sith for what became the Noghri species until he was obviously shot down.
I prefer not having Jabba appear until Jedi. Not only because, as mentioned in the video, his appearance is redundant because his conversation with Han is almost word-for-word the same one Han just had with Greedo, but also, because it builds him up as this mysterious and powerful figure for when we finally do see him.
You’ve done such a great job once again! Thank you for consistently sharing your passion with us! This channel has only deepened my love for Star Wars with each and every video.
Great video! Didn’t know a lot of these. ANH was the first movie I went to see in theaters. I was 4 or 5 years old. After they all got out of the trash compactor, the film reel broke! We all started walking out and my family were a few feet from the exit before they told us it was fixed. We returned to finish the movie
Honestly, I liked the idea of Leia speaking in a British accent in more formal, serious situations while maintaining her American one otherwise. That's always how I rationalized it.
I highly recommend "The Hero's Journey" TH-cam miniseries by SFDebris if you wanna really get into the nitty gritty of George Lucas's efforts to get A New Hope made. It takes as much of the verified sources out there and attempts to put it in a cohesive documentary tale.
Its amazing how a movie with a bloody severed arm, genocide, and 2 burnt human carcasses would have been rated G back in '77 but nowadays one wrong word can bump a Disney film all the way up to a PG on the spot.
The ratings were rightly shifted when the PG-13 rating was introduced in the 80's. However, you are correct that the ratings have shifted even more in more recent years. Hardly anything manages to get a G rating these days, and I still don't get why all of the Disney Star Wars movies deserve a PG-13 rating compared to Eps. I & II getting PG ratings. Maybe "Rise of Skywalker" and/or "Solo" should still be PG-13, but the rest?
My fav line is Wedge telling Porkins to EJECT ! Uh, none of the pilots had any spacesuits on. What would Porkins do? Hold his breath, drop down & run to a portal, knock & ask, " Can Darth come out & fight?" before he froze to death?
Cool that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will premiere on the same date as the original movie (May 25th). Seems unlikely enough to me to maybe even be intentional.

The Death Star animation used in "Return of the Jedi" was also a legitimate computer animation for the time. That shows just how much the technology had advanced in just 6 years!
Why did the stormtroopers have dubacks (sp) on a spaceship? I've always thought this was weird when they could use tie fighters to cover more ground. And to have a whole section on a ship dedicated to housing animals seems odd. Or did they go to Mos Eisley and bring them back to the escape pod?
Don't quote me on this but I believe it's because standard TIEs at the time could not work in atmosphere. This is why in R1 there were the TIE Strikers.
@@myriadmediamusings they could fly in atmosphere, we see as such in Rebels. It was more that for something as small and specific as two droids, they needed eyes “closer to the ground”

I quite enjoyed this one. And yes....learnt a lot from it too. Really well done mate.
that last fact about the release date is quite interesting. very smart thinking by George ( 19:11 )
I graduated from High School when Star Wars(1977) came out. George was right. It was the big talk at our graduation events.
Always interpreted Luke's reaction to Owen and Beru as anger. He didn't learn to controll his anger until after Empire after all.

In Kenobi, we’re gonna see him live in a cave close to The Lars Homestead and some years later he would live in a hut on top of the hill.

TAN-TIV FOUR
4:03 I've heard this one before but I've also heard it wasn't actually true because the sandcrawler was a miniature?
I'm still sad that David Prowse never truly find out the real reason the voice of Darth Vader was changed until much later!

Is there any truth to the rumor that the shot of the dismembered arm was specifically added to get that PG rating?
Actually, Im pretty sure the sandcrowler thing was with libya and not algeria
