Finally the day has come where I've gotten the opportunity to finally shoot with the real deal Mamiya 7ii. Joi and I hit the a neighborhood lawn & Manhattan Beach to grab some shots of her on Portra 160. I also pulled out Kodak's Portra 160VC expired film to see what the hype was about. I hope y'all enjoy this one.

I shoot with a Mamiya 7 & RZ67. There’s just something about the 7 that feels amazing in your palms while shooting. I typically shoot landscape with it but portraits come out amazing too. I would comment on how amazing the shutter click is but I’m still simply speechless. Plus the camera being a rangefinder is just icing on the cake, IMO. My only downside to the 7 is that you can’t get too close to the subject with the lack of bellows & of course the camera cost but overall my favorite camera. Awesome video man, big fan of your work!

On the Mamiya you don't have to unscrew the pressure plate for switching between 120 and 220, you just rotate the whole plate by the edges, clockwise to go from 120 to 220, counterclockwise to go from 220 to 120. It should rotate easily if you're going the right direction.

I’ve shot both. For 35mm I always used Leica, before their prices went supernova. Thought the rangefinder thing would translate up, but it didn’t, so Big Pentax all the way.
Gotta say it again, the black and white conversion, man, that’s MONEY! That one (you KNOW the one) would be so dope as huge print in an LA loft. I can picture it in my mind - white brick wall, chesterfield sofa, and a 4x6 foot print above.
So, when are you getting an agent to sell your work? It’s time. You are capturing the soul of the moment consistently throughout the images you’re sharing. This is the beginning of something big. Glad your back and well. Keep grinding the good stuff.

The B&W scans are impressive. I like the way a B&W scan of a colour neg turned out and is something that I do a fair bit. Possibly my favourite film for this treatment is the Lomography Redscale, I absolutely love it for portrait work and gives me a B&W look I cannot get with conventional film stock.

Expired film was dope. The tones that were delivered were quite interesting and amazing. And portra that wasn’t expired I like the tones too. Are deep color and I resonate more with that. Overexposing portra is not my favorite thing to see and do but that’s why I like ektar more. Now I know that portra can give the same tones too. Good to know. Thank dope as usual.

the pentax 67 dial from 120 to 220 can be turned with a dime/penny or even regular keys. Sometimes you can even do it with your thumb nail. Nice shots! Expired film is fun right? And yeah wish they brought back 220 film!

Ive never shot expired film but I’ve seen people get results that look no different at all from non-expired film and then results like yours that have a bit of an color cast in the underexposed areas. I don’t think it’s a bad look and might even prefer it sometimes. Really enjoyed the video, your channel has been a bunch of fun to watch.

Just a suggestion for the image at 3:54. I really like the red on green look, but there are two things that bother me about the image:
1. The bush or whatever up in the left corner distracts me. I want to focus on the model, and that would be easier with a consistent background.
2. Why'd you cut off the edges of the dress? It feels like you should've gone either wider or tighter, cause this crop is stuck in the middle. You already had a few close-ups so I'd have liked to see what you could do with an even wider shot
The close-up is really good though! Discovered your channel recently and I'm really liking it. Keep up the good work!

I have shot with both cameras, but not side by side. What did you think - comparing results, color, contrast, and sharpness? I sold my Mamiya, but kinda wish I still had it, it is so quiet (I used it for street photography). I'm so much more familiar with SLR types and love using my 67II. Great images!

'It's an expensive camera and it's not mine' - Oh, those are the worst sort of cameras... they make me really nervous. And cap to the back means 'I'm shooting in portrait and the cap is in the way'. (It doesn't look so good on an old man like me...)
