    I own this car.
    First off: the reviewer is spot-on in terms of his description of the way it drives. Indeed, it does handle like a smaller car - even like a sedan, which is remarkable for a vehicle this large and heavy. I can comfortably drive it 60mph on a curved exit ramp without feeling the car leaning.
    Also, despite the engine size, the power is quite good. It accelerates quickly, and makes merging onto highways and passing cars quite easy.
    Overall, very pleased with the car.

    You do really good car reviews. Those consumption figures are usualy achieved in labs. With no side-view mirrors, higher pressures on tires... You're getting 100% more than brand says, that's crazy.

    Been waiting for this review. Excellent job, personally i'd get this over an X5, Q7, and Mercedes ML. This Volvo is way more unique and in my opinion is on par if not better than the competing german luxury suv's, in terms of quality and visual appeal.

    • @malteadotas4
      @malteadotas4 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +BCJDM lol Volvo's nowhere near a german luxury brand. Yeah, the design is great but Volvo's are unreliable and that engine is a joke.

    • @Hilariumosis
      @Hilariumosis 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +malteadotas4 Interesting that you say Volvo is unreliable when pretty much their whole range show high score is just that... Reliability. According to inspection statistics Volvos have among the fewest marks. Read one survey quite recently. Even though the amount of cars in the servey wasn't very high to really prove the facts but I think it was like 10 000 plus cars and that's an okay number to estimate from. Then I think something is wrong with that particular motor in the video because no matter what that fuel economy isn't okey no matter what and Volvo know and think so too so would never allow thousands of a motor that doesn't deliver what it should so something must have been wrong.
      He also said a button wasn't working right either so it didnt seem to be a completely ready car. A "monday-example" maybe as they say... If you don't trust the engine or like it either way then don't choose it simple as that.

    • @malteadotas4
      @malteadotas4 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roffel Swagman from experience I can tell you, Volvos have lots of issues. Maybe they've improved in recent years but I'm not willing to get disappointed again.

  • @RichDunn
    @RichDunn 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Changing the settings probably wasn't working for you as you didn't have the ignition key in range (the clocks were telling you this). Your test economy was poor, just like every large vehicle when you put your foot down. But reports from early adopters, is 20 mpg or more, as an average in the real world. And for a 7 seat SUV with a power-plant and running gear as refined as you mentioned, seems very fair to me. I test drove n XC90 yesterday and thought it so much better than the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Porsche Cayenne which both seemed great "in isolation". I'm ordering an Inscription tomorrow. I'll apparently have to wait six months for delivery... but for the SUV of the Year, I'm sure it will be well worthwhile being patient for.

    Did you calculate the fuel economy based on mileage driven and fuel consumed or did you trust the trip computer? Something had to have gotten lost in translation or else the previous press that drove this car left it idling for a very long time. There's not way that it should use 20 L unless you track it and who on earth would do that with an XC90? Otherwise, great review like the rest.

  • @JustinCChan

    Very classy alternative to what's out there right now. The lease deals on these aren't bad at the moment, I would be a little concerned about residual value compared to its more mainstream competitors. I also like that they don't gouge quite as hard as the Germans when it comes to the price of options.

    I have test driven the XC90 in both T6 and D5. The D5 4 cylinder diesel is a complete joke. Its sooooo noisy during acceleration and around town it just sounds like an old diesel from a tractor. The T6 on the other hand is more quite but a 4cylindrer engine with todays technology is always gonna be weaker than a 6 cylinder unit with forced induction during acceleration on highway or overtaking other cars. Bare in mind that he was test driving it alone, in real world conditions with 4 adults in the car accelerating from 30mph to 70mph would totaly feel very different. As you said 6 cylinder turbo diesels are the best engines for these kind of full size SUVs. I personally ended up getting a 2016 X5 30d with Msport package. Really smooth diesel and much much more quite around town and the accelerations with 6 cylinder diesels feel just so much smoother and more powerful

    Your comments about engines and fuel economy is misleading. First off, of course your going to get terrible fuel economy if you drive aggressively, this is true on any car. Secondly, manufacturers claims and true MPG have ALWAYS varied, and the gap between real world MPG and claimed MPG does not vary that much between different sized engines (unless you compare say a 1.5L engine with a 5L engine). I looked at the US EPA ratings for the BMW X5 and some BMW owners report up to 25% higher fuel consumption city driving for that car. If you get a almost double the fuel consumption than what Volvo are claiming you must drive like a goddamn lunatic with the stereo and air condition on full blast. Sorry, but I trust Volvo more than I trust your driving. Also, the reported fuel consumption of the Volvo XC90 compared to the 2015 BMW X5 xDrive35d (with just the type of engine you claimed was superior for this type of car) is not that different. US EPA report a 1 MPG difference (advantage Volvo), and the NRCan report a 1.6 litre difference (advantage BMW).

    • @brucec43
      @brucec43 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +R Barrington I agree. Totally irresponsible to make fuel economy claims from a short period with a brand new vehicle. If it's not on a course where all cars go, then the inconsistency of your driving matters. No chance this vehicle gets this consumption, as the XC60 does about 20 mpg city and it is 4,000 lbs.

    • @linusohlsson7914
      @linusohlsson7914 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +R Barrington He also left the car running while parked. And thats not good if you test fuel economy. He should reset it and drive normal.

    Disappointing engine choices. IN the UK we only get the 2.0 litre diesel...with a turbo and supercharger, it has to work harder to pull such a hefty vehicle. They really need to make a 3.0 litre version for this size of car so that it can truly cruise along

    • @teem5642
      @teem5642 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. I like the looks of the car but the engines honestly. They'll probably do less mpg compared to say the 3litre, motorway and in town. . But i guess insurance and tax will be cheaper. But yea, the engine versions are really pathetic for a good design like that

      hipposnakeyo A Chinese website called autohome.com, they tested the x5 28i from 0-100km, and the data showed that x5 is faster than xc90 t6.

    • @UserErr0r3578
      @UserErr0r3578 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Y Brent
      I call shenanigans on that one, in European tests, the X5 xDrive 35i is usually an equal or a bit faster too 100km/h than XC90 T6 - are You really suggesting that less powerful X5 28i is faster than 35i?? Are the laws of physics different in China or could this just be an error in reporting? I'm pretty sure it's the latter one.
      Seems like they've run T6 in Eco mode and X5 in some Sport mode whatever the BMW equivalent is.
      The BMW's advantage in acceleration is usually attributed to the ZF 8-speed being ever so slightly faster and efficient compared to the Aisin 8-speed that Volvo uses.
      Not sure about 20L/100km as well, worst I've heard from Northern Europe is about 14-15l/100km and that's with mostly city driving short distances in cold weather(under 0 degrees Celsius). 2015 Jeep GC 5.7 Hemi(yes, we have those here too) was getting 22.6l/100km at the same time with same kind of driving. I'm thinking bad or no break-in for the engine orr just a defective engine.

    The fuel consumption is horrendous! Hyundai recently got fined hundreds of millions of dollars for being overly optimistic about their rating, which was reduced by a couple of MPG after the fine. For Volvo to be falsely advertising the fuel consumption rate at half the value seen in real-world driving conditions is even worse! Especially considering their recent revival and trend upwards.

    • @herczeus9341
      @herczeus9341 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Epitopi Hmm. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is a better car company than Volvo. It's also the 4th largest automaker in the world. Soon to be 3rd analysts predict in time. And they are soon launching their own luxury motor company called Genesis. Like Toyota = Lexus and Nissan = Infiniti. Which will include 6 models at first by 2020. Including 2 luxury Suv's - Crossovers. More models beyond 2020 of course.
      Yes they got fined. And I know what you are speaking of. But considering that VAG (Which includes Audi which is also affected by the recall) 2 - 4 Billion dollar scandal. Hyundai has a better record than all the other Asian automakers in terms of problems per vehicle. The worst being Toyota/Lexus/Scion. Which is #1 in terms of recalls for the last 5 years in a row.
      In terms of engines I would rather put Hyundai's multiple Ward's award winning TAU V8 engine into this vehicle. I don't see this engine lasting for very long considering the amount of stress this vehicle will take hauling 5 - 7 people as well as loads of items in it. Other than that I'm a fan of the new not owned by Ford anymore Volvo.

    I have been of Volvo fun since years but now cannot stand this propaganda!
    So many of you are amazed by the power/cylinder/liter amount....it was done several years ago e.g. in WRC cars!
    What about engine smoothness? Does it sound like a premium car? It does not and you can find it in several reviews of the new XC 90. It is physics of vibrations: 4 cylinder engine will never ever be so smooth as 5, 6 -in-line! To make it smoother a more complex (less reliable, expensive ) system will need to be used and still the outcome is at least barely acceptable.
    Reliability? There will be terrible (I am not guessing, this comes from statistics: more complex machines are simply less reliable. This comes from experience: turbo cars can be real pain. Yes, what I am saying here is over simplification but I guess you see the point.
    Two turbochargers, supercharger, many locations to fail, complex control system...may work when new, when deteriorated it will bring several problems to an owner...and money for Volvo! This is their secret plan to make complex cars and earn money from servicing!
    This will work for a couple year but then people will learn and in 10 years nobody will be remember Volvo brand!
