People moving out because the medical field out here is trash. Wait 3 to 6 months for a doctors appointment....garbage. ruins reddings abilities to become better. Not just my opinion. Thats a fact.
I’m not sure where you’re getting your facts from but they actually don’t. They have contributed to larger things in our area like the airport in support but don’t own it. Hope that helps.
Parking is really the big issue and the new project actually reduced parking spaces which is crazy! Toss in a massive increase in parking fees and it's just another reason that we avoid downtown. Besides a favorite burger establishment, there is not a lot down town! Also, the big ugly rust faced parking structure is a real eyesore!
Less parking spaces is better actually, that means less ugly parking lots, too bad they couldn't do that with the parking structure but considering how pretty the market street looks now it's not that bad
@@Kiyan3100 I don't know about that! The rusty new parking structure is hideous! Also , try finding a parking spot near the Cascade theater if something is going on there during the day! It's a joke.
@tgchism I'm saying the parking structure is a bad thing, I agree with you, that could've been replaced with a transit stop with some nice shops/living spaces nearby, basically an extension of market street already but without massive spaces for parking
Your video was good. I appreciate your approach & information. BUT... until we get the homelessness, drugs & crime downtown under control, it won't work. I literally walk around here daily & there are ALWAYS trash/drugs/homelessness issues.
It is a tough issue we are working through to make sure the downtown area is welcoming for all and we are working hard to bring resources to help those struggling. I definitely will say there are better areas to visit and walk and not all of downtown is like that.
So this is basically the controlled 15 min city, hmmmm very strategic people, we will rise up and make sure informed consent is advertised for the under researched. I also work with the homeless and projects in Redding and you have them living downtown in the new builds, places loaded with Disability and section * housing. This is not what they are trying to paint, Time to get involved in all the areas of influence and bring facts instead of facades.
We do have low income housing, and transitional housing in apartments in downtown Redding. I know that the Mission has been working with creating micro shelters to help even more with the homeless. At the end of the day, it might not be a perfect solution but I’m proud for the organization and RPD who are doing what they can to help with what we have. Overall, have visited larger metro cities & seen what they are experiencing, we do have issues but we have a proactive city moving in the right direction & things could always be a lot worse. I will be interviewing the mission director next week & will be launching in two weeks what he is seeing firsthand, projects in place & where he sees the vision of Redding in decreasing homelessness etc. thanks for what you have done for our city in this area.
Good video for me, I was downtown earlier today and those particular areas remind me of Bay Street in Emeryville. That part of downtown Redding to me has a better quality of certain things, and if parking is only a buck an hour and you can't beat that.
Someone took a bunch of grant money to build those crowded "income based" housing units. The people who moved in there are not from Redding. Polish it and put a bow on it all you like, it's Central planners' working their social engineering as usual.
I'm sorry, I grew up in redding. I hate what it has become, I don't recommend anyone coming to Redding. I care for Redding, but not the way it's heading down. Anyone watching tread carefully when coming to visit.
I will say that have grown up in Redding and lived here we have had changes & california as a whole has challenging policies and procedures in place. I will say that the strategic plan of 2024-2027 that RPD has for the vision of the city is really great to read and insightful for a better future of Redding
More public transportation would be key. If Redding was smart, put in a light rail line that goes from the outskirts of Redding as well as the airport to downtown. Then there's less need for parking, easier for people to get to downtown and walk around.
It was a little bit to adjust to especially the downtown strip but now that I have driven it many times, it’s a little easier and that is coming from somebody directionally challenged 😁
Hey, i want to know if Redding is a open town for different cultures and religions. My parents are planning to move here in the next few years and I’m anxious about what other people would think about me because I’m Asian Canadian.
We are definitely accepting and open to different cultures and religions. Due to our growth and diversity our area has brought over the years, Im confident you could find a place here where you feel supported etc.
Redding is a very WHITE and very conservative city. Those are the facts. If you are a minority, you will definitely feel out of place the majority of the time. Just being real as someone from out of state 🤷🏾♂️
Sorry you feel that way. I’m not sure what opportunity you’re looking for. Happy to help. We love that we are only 2 hours away to the coast or Sac area if we need a day trip or change of scenery. We have found a lot of opportunity here & love calling this home
becuase of the crime everyone in redding has a gun and is extremely paranoid, the police will not respond to any calls unless you have been shot or stabbed. The are literally 1000's of homeless people living in the bushes, that during the 110 degree summer can get very agitated. The county is extremely corrupt and spends money on stuff that is NOT needed (the brand new, 100 million $ court house is just one example). The town is full of drug addicts that will steal everything you own if its not welded to something, just sayin'!
Hey Dennis, we interviewed Erin who is at the forefront with K2 development in all of the changes. You are more than welcome to reach out to them as well but everything shared is true. Let me know what exactly you feel you might need to fact check regarding what was said in this episode
We filmed them in early afternoon on a weekday to avoid crowds so that we didn’t have to worry about people being on camera, and additional noise that’s all. As the public market comes in & the growth of the future places, it will definitely be a place to hang out.
With more parking available and downtown growth, I see more cars as a positive thing that there are more people downtown to support the businesses making it a thriving area.
@@barrettteam More cars means congestion, ugliness, and danger for pedestrians. Walkable areas make better downtown experiences. Why use up downtown space for parking spots instead of businesses? There are other options for parking.
I completely understand your thought process. I’m not sure if you reside in our area, but with the improvement of downtown and the addition of clean transportation, there are now more walkable areas and sidewalks, making it easier to navigate downtown on foot. The previous parking system took up a lot of wasted space, but now new buildings have been built. The problem is that if there isn’t enough parking provided and just an influx of businesses, nobody will come downtown because they wouldn't have anywhere to park. Often, people park and then walk around, so this parking change and adding parking in various spots has been helping the area continue to grow in a healthy way.
It's just crazy and funny how she's comparing San Francisco to reading. 😅 We all know that she's just comparing prices but she's not comparing what it has to offer

Have you seen the newest downtown parking structure. There is ample of parking now & options. I haven’t ever had any issues
Great to see some positive changes to our beautiful area. Thanks for the video showcasing it.

Hmm I'd imagine a light rail would be too expensive and not necessary to serve the population of this city, a brt system would work pretty well
