I just managed to pick one up this Christmas! Wanted him ever since I was small and damn he was absolutely worth the wait! Still gotta do that elbow fix and a touch of dusting on the joints, but he’s semi-displayed right now and looks exquisite.
That Zarak figure just reminds me of that time in the comics when the baddie Nebulons wore massively over-sized business suits over their Headmaster armour. Ah, 80's comics, never change.
I also received G1 Scorponok as part of the greatest Christmas gift I ever got. I knew my parents bought it and even where it was hidden so I would slip him out of his box and play with him in secret (guess I was a bit of a bad bastard myself). I was prepared to Christmas day to be a bit of a letdown as I had already transformed him many times but then I opened the other present under the tree to find Fort Max!!! It wasn't just the amazing gifts but the total swing from expectation that still brings a smile to my face. I love your videos and am sad that you are contractually required to block me as stated in review 114.
What really made Scorponok an all-time great for me was Furman's characterisation of him (and Zarak) in the G1 comics. He was a conflicted, complex character who had one of the most memorable and tragic deaths in the run. The G1 toy is a hell of lot more fun than the TR remix too!
I had the original G1 Scoponok. He really was a fun toy. I put him with all the other "city" Transformers and "connected them all together with the Micro Master Transformers to make a GIANT TRANSFORMERS CITY. Life was so simple back in the 80's. I only had to worry about the zip lock bag of extra Transformer parts. Now, as an adult who has a mortgage, a family of a wife and 2 daughters, work all week and no time for anything, I miss those days. Simple fun with a simple toy.
I completely agree, Scorponok is AMAZING in every mode! The only drawback is... when he shoots those purple missiles (3:12) in base mode, do they just hit the bay roof and explode?
I vividly remember getting into arguments with my friends over whether or not this guy was battery powered or remote control, or had some kind of mechanical feature built in that made those legs wobble. I’m sure it had to do with the commercials unintentionally or intentionally fooling all of our tiny potato brains.
Fun fact, Fastrack is actually a mindless drone, not unlike a Vehicon Drone, and Scorponok (not Lord Zarak, Scorponok) can project his consciousness through, allowing him to interact with other Decepticons while he's serving as base.
Thanks for the video! My brother and I scored this at a thrift store back in the day, meaning most of the parts were missing, but we didn't care. Head or not, this giant was quickly the leader of Decepticons. Ratcheting claws, surprisingly high pose possibilities (for the time) and crawling scorpion mode makes this version of Scorponok one of the coolest toys of G1.
One time my Principal at my Highschool saw that my show-and-tell toy was an Encore Fortress Maximus, he recognized it and brought in his G1 Scorponok.. Pretty cool thing to see. I've always admired Energon Scorponok's design more though, even if the toy tends to crumble.
Most base mode are shite (I stand by that so it has to be true) but Scorponok with his big silver towers and his elegant curving ramps just looks truly like an alien base and the only one that is memorable. A stunning Robot mode and how mental is a titan sized scorpion as your alt mode!? Absolutely mental perfection!!!
From the original leader of Decepticon headmasters, to the numeress goons and pets of other Decepticons. Either way, regadless whitch version of Scorpnock we're talking. Every, single, one, will make you feel the STING.
I loved mine from buying it at Asda for all my Christmas and Birthday money combined circa 1988. I gave him to a fellow local collector this year, as he was just gathering dust. He will live on! Also who in their right mind still has all the bits? I mean come on.
this really is such a marvel. so much fun you have with it, nonstop. something you don't have now, well, since legacy started to be honest. I have black zarack , although legacy release, its scorponok from WFC. and damn, the fun i have with him, connecting with skylynx base mode, with doubledealer, the battlemaster roads connected, and so much fan base modes you can do.
looks like they were working on the EVO FUSION with the robot arms that were missing. lol love it haha crazy it came out 30 plus years ago and its jam packed with features. very ooooo
I think my most memorable christmas presents would have to be when i got the Millennium Falcon, followed by the AT-AT followed by Tripticon.... Thanks as always, Gavin!!! Happy New Year!!!
I really want to get a reissue of this lad to go with my reissue G1 Fort Max (I also want to get a reissue G1 Metroplex and Trypticon, along with a lot of other G1 stuff.), he'd look great standing next to him on a shelf. Like the weird Punk little brother that you always bash in public, but secretly adore.
I remember getting him way back in Christmas 1987. Still have him. Great figure. To my eternal shame, I had him 18 years before I realised there was a panel on Zarak's back that flipped over to cover Scorponok's face. In my defence it wasn't shown on his instructions. I'm curious regarding the four radar pieces you have. Yours are orange but mine are grey. Great review as always Mr. S. P.S. Be wary of Zarak's shoulders. Growing up, both Zarak and Krunk broke at said shoulders.
I do believe that of the cityformers, this is the only one without a reissue in any form as Metro & Fort got Encores & Trypticon got a Platinum so poor scorpion boi then
Now there's a big fun gift if I ever saw one. I sometimes wonder what a big G1 toy would be like in person compared to modern Titan sized toys. Would be a fun laugh, I suppose.
Mine was G2 Megatron ❤ it's still my favourite toy of all time! Super fun. Massive. Fun gimmicks and fast to transform! The magic that can be missing from some toys.
Very cool figure, excellent review. Thank you! Now, I wonder if those add-on bits from your friend's Etsy store will work on the Titan-Class Scorpy . . . .
I'm a bit older than you so by 1987 I was working part time jobs in high school. I managed to spend a lot of that cash on Transformers (somethings never change) but the one I never could get was Scorponok. He is the holy grail missing from my collection. To be honest, I'm not sure I want him. The dream of him may be more satisfying than the having could ever be.
I actually own this figure, not in perfect condition though. I got it without any accessories and without the head. So I use the stinger tail as some kind of eyestalk thing.
1:42, he sees every Autobot as an action figure. 1:53, he might be a fan of Cutie Honey or Sailor Moon, Silent Mobius or Dirty Pair I might imagine. 2:48, Ultra Marcus' voice I can hear coming out of this guy. 'BEAUREAUCRAT!!!' 3:36, city you say? th-cam.com/video/BGs-8k1hdtM/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=ArtzieMusic 5:20, party on with it: th-cam.com/video/RZYwi30sdXo/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=ArtzieMusic
Scorponok is really cool, but they did him no favors by making Fortress Maximus his rival. Like, he doesn't really need to be as big as Fort Max to be cool, especially when he's occasionally leading the decepticons, but even when they make him bigger or make his autobot counterpart smaller, the comparison just makes Scorponok look like a bug about to be stepped on. I feel like he needs to be fighting ultra magnus, that's when he's cool, cuz they're both big, but he's just a little bigger, and they're 2 for 2 on almost being the leader of their respective factions, but always being shown up at the last second.
Funnily enough Energon Skorponok was probably my favorite christmas gift as a kid
Hear hear! 🥂😎 Oh the wonderful days.
I just managed to pick one up this Christmas! Wanted him ever since I was small and damn he was absolutely worth the wait!
Still gotta do that elbow fix and a touch of dusting on the joints, but he’s semi-displayed right now and looks exquisite.
Ditto but with Cybertron Dark Scorponok
That Zarak figure just reminds me of that time in the comics when the baddie Nebulons wore massively over-sized business suits over their Headmaster armour. Ah, 80's comics, never change.
When my mom asked me this year what my favorite Christmas present was, I said this and the Ghostbusters firehouse.

Yes old friend, you did good
I completely agree, Scorponok is AMAZING in every mode! The only drawback is... when he shoots those purple missiles (3:12) in base mode, do they just hit the bay roof and explode?
Its not missiles, it's cans of soda for the yearly staff Christmas party.
@@thedeadpoolwhochuckles.6852 you've solved my 40 year mystery!

Fasttrack with the makeshift arms looks straight out of Jabba's Palace, "You're a feisty lil one!" Love it
Fun fact, Fastrack is actually a mindless drone, not unlike a Vehicon Drone, and Scorponok (not Lord Zarak, Scorponok) can project his consciousness through, allowing him to interact with other Decepticons while he's serving as base.
There's so much great lore associated with Scorponock and/or Lord Zarak, and What an awesome Toy it all sprang from.
Nice video! Funny, I got Earthrise Scorponok for Christmas, and I love 'em. It seems this character transcends into holiday joy!

Also my greatest Christmas gift, from the lost legend that was Woolworths.
(places monocle firmly in place) i too, got a Scorponok for Christmas as a child.
My “rich” friend had Scorpinoc and seeing it as a 6 year old was a brain melting experience 😆
I keep forgetting how much fun animal modes are when "animal" isn't the emphasis of fun.
Scorponok is so sick. Been considering 3D printing a giant one of my own as the original G1 version is so expensive it’s hard to justify
One time my Principal at my Highschool saw that my show-and-tell toy was an Encore Fortress Maximus, he recognized it and brought in his G1 Scorponok.. Pretty cool thing to see. I've always admired Energon Scorponok's design more though, even if the toy tends to crumble.

the last little kid Christmas I had before the wool was pulled.. I got Trypticon .. I will always remember SANTA brining me the citybot dino!! lol
My favorite Christmas gift was this dueling lightsaber
I loved mine from buying it at Asda for all my Christmas and Birthday money combined circa 1988. I gave him to a fellow local collector this year, as he was just gathering dust. He will live on!
Also who in their right mind still has all the bits? I mean come on.
Scorpanok's base always gave me techno-death-cult vibes. Here's where you go to stab an enemy while chankung to power its profane works.
For emaciated dudes those Hive Nebulans were jacked.
I missed out on Skorponok when I was a wee lad, so I was pretty excited to get hold of Black Zarak last year (a sexy black and gold runner-up.)
He appeared in 3 episodes and is a legend
My favorite Xmas gift was the original Jetfire
this really is such a marvel. so much fun you have with it, nonstop.

Duocons and Triggercons fit pretty well into his base mode
My man’s color scheme is beets, carrots, and peas.
I think my most memorable christmas presents would have to be when i got the Millennium Falcon, followed by the AT-AT followed by Tripticon....

Amazing review for the new year. Now I want one!
Go for it!
He's a masterpiece much like Gavin himself
I remember getting him way back in Christmas 1987. Still have him. Great figure.

Transmetal 2 Megatron original beast wars line, and MMPR Thunder Megazord.

Shout out to Ultra Marcus and his excellent portrayal of Lord Zarak.
@@windsweeper8002 Ah yes, I agree. His work reminds me heavily of the excellent Marvel US And UK comics.
the g1 head is too small because the headmaster needed to be in scale. The Titan's head is too big because the headmaster needed to be in scale.
2 guns as opposed to 4? Hasbro agrees

Hello Lex
BUT GAVIN YOU SAID YOU'D PUT THE LINK IN YOUR DESCRIPTION BUT YOU DIDN'T AND YOUR ACCENT IS TOO THICK FOR ME TO KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SAYING
Well there's your problem
