    The spicer drive shaft was my 1st mod. And 9 years later it continues to perform flawlessly.

    Do you still have the 2014 mustang you put the ford aluminum driveshaft in? What was the problem you were solving, were there any post installation problems? Overall experience with the new Dr Ive shaft.

    I seen you said the torque specs were 41 ft lbs for the rear pinion side is it also the same specs for the transmission side?

    Hi ! Great video ! I just ordered a one piece driveshaft and I have a question for you. Ive heard that you need to put the driveshaft specifically in one position or you will get vibrations. How i know i am putting it in the correct position. Thanks !

      Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
      Here is what I would do: Jack up the car nice and high, enough to lay under (don't forget jack stands for safety). Then lay the new drive shaft under the car with you. Inspect the orientation of the universal joints on both ends of the factory drive shaft. Universal joints will insert into the driveshaft with an ear that sticks out on the driveshaft that are the same 180 degrees opposed from each other. Use a paint marker to note a reference point you will remember on the transmission flange and also mark the rear end on the pinion flange. These Marks will help ensure that you can put the new driveshaft in at the same spot.
      That being said I wouldn't worry about it a whole lot. Just think about when a rear end gets new gears or a transmission gets a new clutch. Those alignment points would not really be there if that makes sense. Hopefully that helps a little bit.

      Hey thanks! I have been digging around all day trying to find the installation paperwork, but I can’t find it. It has been a while since it was installed. But I know they were a specialty bolt; they were allen head bolts and metric thread. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to dig it up. It may be worth it to contact the manufacturer.

    when i go to take out the 4 12 spline bolts, when i try to loosen then the driveshaft rotates. i have it in gearalso

    • @horseplayhobbies6360
      @horseplayhobbies6360  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I normally do in that case is loosely put a few bolts into the rear end pinion flange side of the driveshaft if you already have them removed. Don’t tighten them very much just until they are snug. Then you can put the transmission in gear plus set the parking brake at the same time. The harder you set the brake the more it will hold everything. This will help to prevent the transmission from turning while you loosen the four forward bolts. That normally does the job. They have those bolts very tight from the factory.

    Did you have to adjust the pinion angle?

    • @horseplayhobbies6360
      @horseplayhobbies6360  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Short answer is yes. I did it because I have a one piece aluminum driveshaft and lower control arm relocating brackets. I adjusted the pinion angle with the adjustable upper control arm. If you have a stock two piece driveshaft, then you typically do not need to adjust the pinion angle because the two piece driveshaft basically autocorrects itself.
      Keep the questions coming, we are more than happy to help! We recently updated the car and will be posting another "where are we at video" soon. Thanks HPH!

      Sales rep from Jegs told me I don't need to worry about pinion angle on my 14 GT lowered 1 inch all around.
      Is he right? The car has the Ford Racing handling pack, which drops it 1 inch at all four corners.

    • @horseplayhobbies6360
      @horseplayhobbies6360  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! You should be ok with a 1 piece driveshaft with a 1" drop. I've had cars lowered more than 1" that did not require pinion angle adjustment. A couple things to keep an eye on after you have put some miles on the car with a new setup: 1. Check if pinion seal in the rear end is leaking any oil, if so that may indicate a correction is needed. 2. If car has increase wheel hop or less traction, that could also indicate a correction is needed. While pinion angle is important, I wouldn't get too hung up unless you are seeing other issues. Hope you enjoy all the updates you are making!

    Did you notice any performance gains?

    • @horseplayhobbies6360
      @horseplayhobbies6360  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There were some noticeable performance gains. The car feels more responsive in acceleration under all throttle positions. And under heavy acceleration gear changes are much more positive and less jerky due to the one pice vs. two piece design. Most of the time a lighter weight driveshaft will result in a quicker 1/4 mile time by about .10 second per 10 lbs. of reduced rotational weight. I’ve also had no balance issues with this driveshaft, it’s a high quality item.

    Just ordered the Ford Racing 3.5" aluminum DS for my 14GT from Summit. Does Spicer make them for Ford Racing?

    • @horseplayhobbies6360
      @horseplayhobbies6360  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice , I think that you will enjoy the part. and yes it would seem that dana spicer is making them for Ford. I've had a less clunky feeling from the transmission with it installed and you're going to notice a little bump in performance also.
