      Besides a broken shoulder would still allow him to present a part 2 to the hardware comparison video, or just do a filler type video where he sits down to talk about, or even have a discussion with someone about the history of MacOS or something. Don't even need to write a script for that.
      I don't wanna be mean but I have to say working for LTT seems to be a bit "too comfortable" of a job. Every single indie TH-camr who ever broke a bone took off maybe two weeks before coming back. Angela Merkel broke her hip and was back to her job as chancellor within a week. He doesn't have the political or monetary pressure to put in the work despite his pain it seems to me.
      Of course he could be working hard in the background or maybe he is just really badly hurt, moreso than his TwiX post would make it seem, but from said TwiX post it doesn't seem too bad and I would expect him to be back by now, or maybe someone else could take over and make some small videos, Mac Address does have a whole team after all.

    Hiya, I'm the dummy who bought the Vision Pro "for Genshin." (yes, that was mostly a joke justification because I make dumb Genshin Impact videos lol)
    I've got some additional thoughts for those that care. Having had the device for the better part of a month now, I don't plan to keep it.
    Right now it's more a question of "how long do I plan on keeping it" mostly for the purpose of showing it some friends/family that live varying degrees of not nearby me. I really do love the thing as a device to be able to share my passion for technology rather than just talking about my passions. The Vision Pro is a really fun device to use, but far too expensive for what it actually does right now. Which I am not at all surprised by--I expected that going in. It is ultimately very expensive toy that I am treating as a device I am "renting" by nature of intending to get most of my money back later by selling it. I believe in the future of the product category as a whole, and I look forward to the innovation that may come as a result of Apple entering the space.
    I also concur with the feelings of just talking to people in the headset being one of the meaningful values of the device. I think the audio experience on top of the persona stuff goes a long way towards making it feel like people are present in a room with you, to a much greater extent than I have felt with other digital forms of talking with people. It is my preferred method of talking to anyone digitally now, so long as I am JUST talking to them. Still need to use my PC to play games while talking to friends of course.
    Anyhow, it was super fun being part of this video, thanks a ton for letting me be part of it Jonathan!

      Do you believe that a gen 2, 3, or 4 version of this device would be close enough to what people are expecying/wanting, or is it something that fundamentally isn't going in the direction fans hope it would?

    • @Solunerra
      @Solunerra 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@noytelinu Ignoring the cost aspects (of which I believe will naturally fall with economies of scale as the product category grows and the tech matures), yes I absolutely do think future generations will get there.
      Many of the issues I have with the Vision Pro are related to things missing in software control like the lack of customization or ability to have a window following you as you move around without needing to manually grab it, hardware issues like low light functionality, not having any wired connection to even transfer files (without the $300 developer strap), or whatever else.
      I could honestly go on and on with minor gripes, but overall, I would say that in the last 10ish years that I have been actively following the VR/AR category, it kinda seemed to be stagnating for a long while, to the degree that I was starting to not believe in it any longer. The Vision Pro showed me a hardware AND software implementation (the software bit is very important imo) that has reinvigorated my belief in the product category. I believe in the future of devices like it for education and communication especially (its a lot better for digital communication and can fix many issues with remote-work related to social interaction digitally imo). In a lot of ways the VP feels like proof to me that the future we are envisioning with these devices is real. But its probably at least 5ish years away from being accessible/desirable to the avg person.
      Minor side not, I do think the future of games being "better" in a device like this may still be a bit farther off though. Still valuable for unique gaming experiences, but not replacing your gaming console/PC any time soon (due to a mix of the complexity of interfacing, comfort wearing devices long term, and performance of all-in-one devices like the VP)

    • @Solunerra
      @Solunerra 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@noytelinu I wrote a big reply to this already but it seems like YT decided to not post that... I will just summarize what I initially wrote:
      Put simply, having followed the VR/AR category fairly closely for the last 10ish years (since Palmer Luckey and the very early Oculus stuff), I kinda had been losing my belief in the potential of the product category recently due to how it felt like it was stagnating. Progress on a hardware and software level seemed to have halted past occasional "woah look at this cool demo of something that is definitely totally doable with a real product" (looking at you, Facebook).
      The Vision Pro is enough of a jump on a hardware AND (notably) a software level that it reinvigorated my belief in the category again. If I were to place a bet, we are still 5ish years away (I doubt we will get yearly generations, so I would say 2 generations) from it being attractive to the avg person on a cost level as well as hardware/software experience level. There is all kinds of minor nitpicks I could mention related to the VP, but I do believe it proves the concept for the potential of the category more than anything else has, and Apple is providing the kick in the butt that the category needed to jumpstart competition properly. I don't think this is quite an iPhone situation where everyone will have a "Vision" device by the end of the decade, but I do believe Apple is legitimizing the tech in a way that gives normal people the desire to use such devices such that it will soon be a very normal thing for people to be using this style of device. By the end of the decade I think people will look back at conversations happening TODAY and people will laugh at how many of us are talking about the Vision Pro.

    • @CapnSlipp
      @CapnSlipp 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Don't know what team you worked on, but Apple's ARKit/RealityKit team really dropped the ball. It can map a static mesh of a room… but that it? It can't track moving objects reliably, it can't recognize and classify objects (not full classification, but enough classification to know what apps have existing bindings to them), it can't understand IRL contextual objects or environments (the XR dream scenario I always give is you look outside your window up at the sky, and contextually it knows you want to see a weather widget overlaid on the sky showing current conditions and near-term forecast).
      None of this is possible because visionOS doesn't really track or know anything other than a rough mesh of the exterior dimensions of physical spaces- technology Apple, Oculus, Lead, Zed, and many others have had nailed for close to a decade. So that leaves it to the developer to implement all of that with the caveat that it'll only work when the app is already open.
      I think Apple's opened the door for some company like Unity or Unreal or Leap to build a smart API that can do all these things well, for all VR-passthrough/AR/XR platforms, and for astounding apps to come from innovative devs, yes on Vision Pro, but also available on every other platform, and honestly Vision Pro's version will be the most limited underwhelming version.

    I can afford it, but I am not desperate for what is practically a public beta product. We all know Apple is working on v2 for launch at the end of 2025. v3 or v4 is where you want to get in. Apple also needs to work on comfort the most, use lighter materials over aesthetics, resolve the FOV issues, it does look like you are looking through binoculars and all of Apple must be on board with native apps, not some departments releasing iPad apps and some native. The Finder desktop when connect the Mac needs to be decomposed in favor of a floating global menu bar and Dock with free floating Mac apps to make the experience worth while. In fact, this needs to be built in without the need to own a Mac. And finally, the battery life needs to be a minimum 8 hours and the price needs to come down to 1,799.

      @heyjustj 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hieronyma_I think they do know. Their demographic for this was people that have money and want to spend it on the “latest and greatest” tech. Like people that own super cars that aren’t street legal and never take them to the track other than maybe once in their lifetime for that singular experience and then to say they own it and it’s cool. They aren’t practical, comfortable, or anything but people still buy them even without utility. For this the price is SO high it keeps out your average consumer that would complain that you can’t really DO anything with it. Ironically people willing to shell out the cash for it don’t care that it doesn’t DO anything and are much less likely to complain. It’s that it’s cool and the best hardware and experience that exists even if that experience is very narrow and limited. Then Apple can learn and refine the product to a point that it makes more sense for your average consumer.
      I find something similar in other lines of work. My higher paying clients often are the ones least likely to complain and the ones I can experiment a bit more with. My lower paying clients are generally more demanding and try to squeeze every bit of value out of each and every penny. They want me to do significantly more with significantly less.
      With all that said, the marketing for the AVP as a “special computing” productivity device and many of the other claims are silly. Especially if you are familiar with the VR/XR space already.

    I’d love to own one just to share the experience with others. I had my eye on Oculus DK1 for YEARS but couldn’t justify it. It was clunky and inconvenient as were most headsets for a while. When the Oculus Go came out I immediately bought one and shared it with so many people. Specifically sitting in a theater and watching a movie. It was easy to demonstrate, impress, and not cause motion sickness from the lack of 6DOF. That then inspired my brother to buy a quest when it first released. Now in my family I believe we have at least 10 different VR headsets. Like 1-2 per household. It is a tech that when experienced, then priced right with enough things to do WITH other people it becomes a much easier sell. And that last social part I think is key to mass adoption.

    “It’s the best vr headset you can buy right now”
    From a technical level, yes but in terms of content and experiences, it’s pretty abysmal. Apple seems so afraid of truly being a platform for games, but games are still the most compelling and novel VR experiences so making their VR headset that de-emphasizes games and even makes them harder to develop/design due to the limited input methods. Hand tracking is nice for interfaces but not for 99.9% of games.
    I get why they don’t want controllers, the idea of that is very un-apple, for the same reason Steve Jobs wanted the iPhone to be capacitive touch and not include a stylus in the original iPhone. But with a touch screen you can do everything you’d want to do on a phone, with motion gestures and eye tracking, you are heavily limited in what you can do.

      LTT is too cheap to get a Vision Pro it seems. He tried it for the first time when the long haired guy brought it.

    Bought a Vision Pro. I bought it because I've always been enthusiastic about XR, and I instantly knew it had great bones because the spatial audio on the thing is phenomenal. Even small movements of the sound source can be felt, and I felt that with everything else like great hand tracking, video resolution, etc, I felt like the potential that it will be great is huge.

      Except Vision Pro isn't AR/XR- there's little to no integration of IRL object tracking and correlation with virtual visuals. It's VR + a passthrough camera backdrop.

    They're all putting it on wrong, though. The band has to go higher on the back of the head, then it's more comfortable.

    Why does is till feel like people trying really hard to justify spending so much on basically an external monitor. I’ve yet to see on any review or write up a genuine reason to spend that much money so I can see a video on a 50 inch screen. The resolution is better but it’s too close to what the quest 3 does but more expensive. Until the killer app comes along it will still be a gimmick but I’m sure it will happen

    Tried the Vision pro out at the apple store, found it to be very clear picture wise and intuitive control wise with eye tracking and pinching. I just couldn't justify the cost at $4k after taxes for just a gen 1 device.
    I went to Bestbuy soon after and picked up a meta quest 3 and I've been enjoying it alot for the games, VR Chat and just relaxing in the meta verse with new friends I made.
    The other night I went to a VR Bar and was waiting in line to get ID by a bouncer then a portal opened and two drunk people came out with Rick and Morty avatars, I started laughing because morty was like "Rick idk man I'm 18 they wont let me in " Rick "burp, don't worry bro I come here all the time"
    Those little experiences in VR really sold me, I think its great apple made a VR headset but there is just so much more to do with a quest meta 3 and for that reason I am going to stick with my meta quest headset.
