TIP: I use my old 3rd Gen Apple TV as an Apple Music AirPlay device. It's hooked up via toslink to my integrated amp outputting to proper floor standing speakers.

@@hey-patrick I control the volume from my iPhone, iPad, Mac. I don't have a Siri remote paired to the Apple TV 3 but if I did I would imagine volume control would be possible.

If you are worried about “bit perfect” audio, the Apple TV will resample 44.1khz streams to 48k. 99% of people won’t care!

Hi Craig, nice video. Here is a feature I always like, when entering in a password just hold down on the select button and the letter will be capitalized (great for case sensitivity). Also, if you hold down on the delete button with the select key the entire line will be deleted.

It suddenly forced me to sign in on my Roku TV when nothing had changed. It never used to require a sign-in. Prime doesn't require it after the 1st time.
I'm not signing in on my own TV with that miserable password spelled via a remote's D-pad. Nope, cancelled.

A bonus reason I got an Apple TV is because it enabled remote access and Siri control of addition smart home features. Specifically my Wemo lights switches/outlets. Because they’re the older versions I also required a Wemo hub. Nice to be able to control my lights outside the house without pulling out my phone.

The "miss" with the apple account set up thing is that there isn't a way to map the Apple TV accounts with the individual app accounts (like Netflix, Amazon, TH-cam, etc). It would be nice if by connecting to my Apple TV account, somehow that info could be passed to those apps so when I launch them they would know who is logged in.

The Apple TV is way better. But if you’re already in the Alexa ecosystem, the fire tv can be very convenient. However, if you have an iPhone and Apple Watch, I would say it’s still worth getting the Apple TV. I’m still in the Alexa ecosystem in my home (echos everywhere, ring, Kasa smart products, Phillips hue lights) and I do not miss my old fire tv. The $200 price for the Apple TV is worth every penny.

Remote tip: The "little tv button" activates the appleTV app by default, but in the settings you can actually change it to go to home screen instead of apple tv, so now you don't have to long press the "back" button. I find it very cool since sometimes I'd want to see maybe a Marvel movie and then go back to home screen and TH-cam to get a breakdown. Some people might find it useless, but for others they don't like to hold down the button. Either way, cool feature.

I love the Up Next feature but because I add all movies and shows I want to watch in the future the list becomes way too cumbersome to sort through and find certain items depending on the type of entertainment I feel like watching at the time. I really wish that they would add FOLDERS to Up Next so we could separate them into categories like; purchased movies, currently watching, comedy, sci-fi ect…

Do you have a video showing how you created this routine in the Apple Shortcuts app? I've tried to replicate your steps, but cannot figure out how to specify which Apple TV, or user account. I found your other video where you talk about the NFC sticker and that doesn't go into any detail. If there's a source for this information, I would appreciate it if you would point me to it.

I figured out the problem. I created my shortcut not at home, so when I would touch those linked areas, nothing would happen. When I did this at home, those links would populate with my Apple TV names, user accounts, etc.

Actually mentions that you need an Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 Cable to view best quality HDR 60Hz framerate ... Wins a new Subscriber and gets a Like 👍
Note: Television screen needs to have a HDMI 2.1 Input as well.

    • @j800r_aswell
      @j800r_aswell 2 ปีที่แล้ว

This is not true. You only need HDMI 2.0 to enjoy 4k HDR picture at 60Hz. HDMI 2.1 brings support for 8K Video (which streaming apps do not support yet) and 4K HDR at up to 120Hz (which tv shows and movies don’t currently use).
I think you misunderstood his advice. He recommended a HDMI 2.1 cable to make the most of the new Apple TVs HDMI 2.1 output in the future.

I can see what you are saying. Don’t know if you tried it. But you can turn the touch side off. Then they are just regular buttons. Less accidental swipes.

Unfortunately not. You need an iCloud account and I believe you might be able to set it up with an iPad.

That would be nice to be able to play games outside of the traditional iOS games and Apple Arcade.

Craig - twasn't us - twas HBO Max - in the end had to delete account and redo - all is well now. Lovely and clear after color matching with phone - thanks for that tip! Now, next question: I have a humdinger of a 5.1 surround system I brought over from the UK - a Denon receiver and B&W Front, Center and Rear speakers. How would you recommend hooking them up? Is it even possible to get 5.1 (or something) from a stream? I have only ever played 5.1 DVDs.

Glad to hear you got it figured and it is looking good with color balance. The way mine is hooked up is the out of the Apple TV goes to my receiver along with any other sources. Then from my receiver an HDMI goes to the TV. Most surround systems have an HDMI pass through for video and the sound is covered by the surround system.
