I had my Firestick 4K Max for a while, they are amazing but they can be slow and full of adverts. The Apple TV 4K is worth it in nearly every way. Think of it this way, an Apple TV box is gonna last 5+ years. That works out to 30 or less a year for a premium device that offers the best user experience in the streaming world. It now supports VPN, which for me was the biggest thing stopping me using ATV. Now, it’s no competition.

As streaming devices I’ve had from the early days the Xbox 360, PS4, Roku boxes, Firesticks, Chromecasts, a Hisense Roku TV, and even my Xbox Series S and PS5. Last week I bought the Apple TV 4K for the first time, and it’s the best! It’s all Dolby Vision and while the Xbox and PS5 can do it it’s not easy to get to media and not every app is 4K and not all apps support Atmos. My TV apparently has Dolby Vision but the Roku apps on the TV itself doesn’t smh. It’s so easy to get into apps, and it looks and feels awesome. I think it’s the best!

I firmly believe that the Apple TV 4K is worth it. I used to think that it probably wasn’t, even if you were in the apple ecosystem. However, something about having such a fluid beautiful interface on the TV really changes how you watch. The hdmi arc feature with HomePods is big and my main reason for buying it. And for some reason I feel as though I’m getting a better picture than other streamers, especially utilizing their color calibration feature .
I love Roku and I’ve owned Roku tvs and sticks. Still great devices and what I recommend to get started, but Apple TV 4K all the way.

Wow! I live in the apple eco system, I phones, I pads, macs, AirPods. Have even had two apples TVs. I use fire sticks for my TVs. Amazon offers a ton more free programming than apple. Has great integration with any add on streaming services I buy through Prime. I love the guide as it integrates all my channels in one place Apple TV has no feature. What really blew me away was your comments that Apple was great for smart home. Amazon completely blows apple out of the water. You see that blue button on the remote ? That gives you Alexa without needing a echo….
The Fire stick also gives you a smart home screen and even links to your security cameras. You should really dive deeper into that stick.

Great review! I purchased the latest Apple TV 4K. For some reason when I tried AirPlay watching videos from my photos it was laggy. I use my iPhone 13 pro max to AirPlay. So I tried changing the wifi channel and the buffering stopped. But I’m not sure if something is causing an interference, any thoughts? It also sometimes takes a while to play the next video, I have to constantly press the play button. Thank you!

If you desire audiophile (24 bit audio) music, then the Firestick 4K Max is what you need. Apple TV 4K does not stream it. Moreover, Apple claims Apple Music streams 24 bit audio, but I have been unable to confirm that. My streaming sticks connect to the HDMI ports of an Anthem AVM 70 (preamp). Then the AVM 70 DAC converts the signal to analog and it is sends it to amplifiers and then to my speakers. I have audiophile speakers in my main room and ordinary in-walls in my zone 2. The difference between 16 bit audio (CD quality) and 24 bit audio is striking in both rooms. As I stated above, Apple TV 4K specs do not include 24 bit audio, But Apple claims that the iPhones and iPads can stream it (BTW airplay can not). So I purchased an Apple USB-C to HDMI cable ($69) and connected my iPad to my AVM 70. My iPad said the song was 24 bit, but my AVM 70 (which tells me what signal it receives) said 16 bit. So I am very disappointed that Apple music claims claims 24 bit audio, but I can't listen to it on my audiophile speakers which is very disappointing considering the price of Apple TV 4K. Like an earlier poster I had the Firestick 4K, which I got rid of because it was so slow. The Firestick 4K Max is much faster (no problem loading apps) and Amazon Music has a large inventory of 24 bit audio which sounds awesome. My AVM 70 confirms 24 bit signal. Amazon music for Prime members who have the firestick is only $4.99/month. Also, I tried the Chrome Cast with Google TV 4K stick because chrome cast claims 24 bit audio. I could not confirm 24 bit audio, despite google tech support.

    Coming from a 10-year-old Apple TV - I needed a new one - "obviously"...
If I were to only need a new remote I figure the $60 price tag would be well worth it. How can a remote control be so great...
1- quickly open a new app with Siri & button location
2 - new trackpad becomes intuitive very fast - may be too sensitive on occasion
3- having a Mute button on it is well worth it - I use it all the time. & not having to dig up the television remote -
4- the size is just right in the hand - the flat sides (ala iPhone 12) are gold - Very ergonomic.
    5- Rechargeable battery - hala
6- Being able to easily use the controls (most used are the mute, volume & pause buttons) without requiring to pick the remote up is also nice (for me 50% of the time) Lots of smaller remotes are not so well designed in that way! After a few more days I end up using all of the buttons in that way & less so the trackpad part.
7 The ability to start and shut down Apple TV * television with one power button is great. I use the power button all the time - it is the only remote I need to use now.
8- the backspace button is concave - makes it easier to find as the other buttons are not.
9- If you are scrolling down on a grid of icons and are not sure which one you are currently on - you just need to highly brush the touchpad and the icon will jiggle as you do so. Fn Brilliant...
10 - Build quality is top knock.

For the Apple TV 4K (future proof for newer set & improved resolutions) 32GB- what I like best - in no order
    1- Up Next cue.
    2- Faster
    3- Just better overall
4- Able to lock in playback speed in YT (not able to do that on the old A tv - firestick did not permanently lock it in)
5- TV+ app integration with some other apps
One thing I will miss for ease of use (as on the Fire Stick remote) is to be able to simply with a 2 button press (1 long - 1 short) "save to watch later" a video while browsing on TH-cam. With Apple, it is way less easy (more miserable - 8 button press) to do.
    10 months later for me.
I think it works great overall
I love having the mute button - game-changer when letter ads run their course.
The trackpad is good and I use it a lot - except there ends up being many false actions that occur.
The Siri button is used occasionally and the button location is spot on.

Apple guy here. I have the AppleTV 4k on our family room TV and love it. I have Roku Streaming Stick+ on two other TVs and will likely eventually switch them out for AppleTVs instead. They're not as responsive as AppleTV. I do plan to get a couple of HomePod minis to pair with the AppleTV for better sound. That will save me lots of money versus upgrading my hifi system which is not compatible with HDMI. Love your videos! Keep them coming.

    I have both
    There is no comparison
Apple TV 4K is immensely better then the Amazon 4K fire stick
I have never ever had any lag with the Apple TV
I constantly have to go in to the fire stick cache to clear it out so the stick stops lagging or freezing
Apple TV costs a lot more
But it’s worth it for the performance.

I was using the Apple TV for the longest time until an OS upgrade killed TH-cam. Didn’t want to upgrade the hardware as I simply can’t get the new remote to function as intuitively as the ones that I’m currently using and I don’t have 4K tv. Bought both a Chromecast and the Firestick for less than the price of a single new ATV. I’ve have kept both, one on the basement home theater and the other on the living room tv. Have upgraded to 4K and both Chromecast and the Firestick delivers just fine. So, like you said, do I need to get an Apple TV 4K?

I'm surprised you didn't mention that out of the box Apple TV has no internet browser. You can only get one through a hack where you need to plug in your laptop and mess around with third party software. Having a browser is a big deal if the website where you watch videos doesn't have a good TV app or any at all. Fire Sticks can use any browser including the native one and can side load any Android app without any form of jailbreak right on the device. The only benefit I had with an older Apple TV was that I could use it seamlessly to mirror my Macbook Pro. The Fire TV's mirroring was a bit sluggish, but I don't have the latest version.

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for sharing Frank that is good to hear your perspective. For me I have never thought about a browser. They never existed on them when I started using them in 2011. I have had no use and have never thought about wanting a browser. That is why I didn’t mention it. The services I have used have works.
But that is good info for people to consider if they may want that flexibility. Thanks for watching.

The underwater screensavers (for example) running with some chill music is a great way to relax. Cheers from me here in Oz 👍😀. EDIT? - and they make a great wedding gift. I have both. I started a Long time ago with Alexa for the price and honestly those devices are much more plentiful and mostly cheaper, HOWEVER, I’ve recently switched. We have always been an apple household so once apple finally caught “more, it all there yet”, with Alexa for smart home ecosystem I made the switch to Apple HomeKit. I bought the AppleTV 4K as my hub and have homebridge on RPi to get most of those devices to HomeKit. I still do not have any homepods and just echo speakers, so again both. I need Ethernet for tv, both Firetv max and Apple TV work “good” over WiFi BUT appletv ALLWAYS works better over Ethernet that fire sticks don’t. I use appletv in main living room and firetv on my projector in basement on 130” screen, it’s right next to my router so works great and I paired two 4th gen Echos with fire stick and they sound fantastic and with tripod mounts on the bottom SUPER easy to hang from my iron beam across my ceiling with two 6$ magnet mounts. Someday plan to go all in with apple but I still only recommend Fire TV and echos to family/friends because they work and are supper cheap compared to apple and since they are not smart home geeks like me and Alexa still knows more than Siri (for now)

You omitted discussing the Apple :4k TV has an Ethernet port. This is really the best way to get the best streaming experience. Period. The Amazon Fire TV are glitchy and I had several error out doing updates…. With my dedicated Media Room the Apple 4k TV works well with my Denon receiver and TV monitor. Once you get every device working in harmony, you can operate the entire system from one remote. Enjoy!

I unplugged my Firestick and replaced it with a ATV 4K and couldn't be happier. Now having had both, ATV 4K is worth the extra money. Your getting a much faster UI, no advertising, a HomeKit hub, Superfast Ethernet & Wifi6. Sure they both support the same video formats but the ATV 4K just seems to look much better on the same screen for some reason. Its interface is perfectly smooth, fast and beautiful. If grandma just needs a streamer the firestick is fine - she just have to live with the ads.

If we are talking about just streaming, Fire tv because it’s android you can download/sideload apps that when having on your firestick allow you to watch whatever from wherever. That’s a major plus even if in apple’s ecosystem to get a firestick or android streaming device in general.

I had an apple tv device which could stream video through my Marantz surround processor to a JVC RS 500 projector. Due to Apple ending support for youtube I tried to replace the original device with a gen 1 apple 4k TV. I could not get video from the new device to the projector even in 1080p mode unless I left the power on to another tv which is connected to the system. Since the new Apple 4k does not have a digital audio output I had no option of running HDMI directly to the projector. Apple told me to verify I had a proper HDMI cable and to "check for compatibility" despite the old Apple device working and the new Apple device not working. I was able to fix the problem. A Roku 4k streamer works just fine using the same cabling that was in place with the non-working Apple tv 4k. I have tested only 1080P so far.

Great, Great, Great review! I have a home full of both Amazon Echo and Google Home speakers, displays, cameras, etc. But as far as TV, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Apple TV. You are the only reviewer that I've seen call out the UP NEXT feature. I just love that the next episode of the shows I watch, just shows up in the carousel! It's awesome! I have TRIED to get away from my Apple TV and had the FireTV Stick and the FireTV Cube for a while, but like you, I just HATE the FireTV interface. It's just not user friendly to me at all. I thought that the new Google TV would work the same way, but no. I do like the Google TV interface much better than the FireTV, but the Google TV just doesn't have the hardware to match. It gets slow to load sometimes. But I'm sure Google will solve that with better hardware in upcoming versions. But I keep getting pulled back to my Apple TV. You just can't beat the interface. As a matter of fact, I've been having some memory issues with my Apple TV 4K that I've had for a few years now, so I just yesterday ordered the new one. I know it's the same box, but looking forward to the new remote. Thanks again for the great review!

Anything you get for free tv on the fire tv stick, you can download those apps. Such as IMDB.TV and others. For me the main reason to have these boxes is to not pay the cable or satellite companies. I am going to pay for Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+ & others even if I have cable. My goal is to get rid of the $100+ for cable that has a ton of channels I don’t watch. We are definitely in a streaming world that keeps adding up with services. Old school cable was just easier before all of these services.

I have both. I had a fire stick, but the main sports streaming app in Canada is TSN The Sports Network, and that is available on Apple TV only, so I bought Apple TV. Total rip off for the price. Can’t use my android phone as a remote Iike I used to. I preferred the layout on the Firestick. The keep watching feature is useless since my main streaming channels are Netflix and TH-cam. The game types are more for gamers on the Firestick. It works great, but there is no value proposition, unless they cut back room deals with content providers to be the only streaming host.
