P0420 for cat efficiency would need the extender on the secondary sensor (o2 sensor) downstream from where the cat would be. the front sensor is your AFR sensor and you do not want to be tricking that one as your ECU is adjusting fuel in closed loop fueling based on what it's reading. How's your car been running?
I haven't had the brz for almost 2 years now but it ran perfectly when I had it. I keep getting calls from subaru saying that it needs to be fixed so I have no idea what the new owner is doing to it lol
Might be a little late but when you reset the ecu put the car in accessory mode for like 10 seconds before actually starting the car. it gives the throttle body enough time to calibrate and it should start right up. Usually it will crank for a couple seconds if you dont wait because of the car trying to calibrate but if you wait and then start it, it should start like normal.
So I shouldn’t sign up for starlink?
I know the Catted headers are ridiculously expensive right now and that they've doubled in price since I put a set on my '15 BRZ back in '17, but they do keep the CEL from lighting up my dash board.
i got a hks catted el header, but its throwing a code for me 🥲
@@doggofrs9651 Mine generated a CEL code twice. When my UEL header was originally installed the mechanic sheepishly admitted that he broke one of the O2 sensors. He plugged it, had me order another from Rock Auto, and installed it for no extra charge, just the inconvenience of have to come back a week later. I had to drive around for a week with a CEL.
The second CEL happened when I was caught in a sudden torrential downpour in congested city traffic. I was in a curb lane and water was not draining. I was forced to drive through a deep puddle and at least one of the O2 sensors shorted out. When it dried out I reset the code either through my OBD2 scanner or my Open Flash Tablet. I've not had a problem since.
Check your O2 sensors, wires, and connectors.

If I install the o2 defouler when I install the headers do I still need to clear the ecu or no?

Could you explain a bit more about the phone call you got from Subaru and how they knew about a CEL? Is there a way to disable that kind of intrusive shit?

don’t sign up for starlink
Subaru starlink allows them to receive notifications whenever your car has a problem

Might be a stupid question but did you try clearing the codes first before installing the air restricer? Maybe the instal was not essential
Yup, me personally I cleared my codes as soon as it threw a CEL and it popped back up after driving about five miles. But the defouler is only really necessary on catless applications.
@@cjespi_ is the defouler that you're using just an extender or has a mini cat in it? Mine is just an extender but still throwing a CEL 😂

Have the same wheel and suspension set up , what size did you go for the tires?
before i tuned mine i had the p0420 code had all the issues stated and I couldnt use cruise control

You should only need the one for the second o2 sensor. The defouler I got is linked in the description

Would a J shaped defouler be easier to install and a better fit than the blox racing you used that goes straight out from the bung hole?
what if I put 2 o2spacer on it. Would it give it any effect ? Is it safe to drive it with two o2spacer connected ?
The 2nd gen doesnt respond well to mods like the 1st gen. The factory tune on the second gen is fantastic not like the first gen. But if you are going for sound only then yes

nope, it just ran like normal just with a CEL
Mine went into limp mode after a spacer but I will try the defouler and see if theres a difference

Nope but it is recommended that you tune the car for the headers
F@ck the waranty lol I have the same problem with my 2017 impreza. Ever since I installed the HFC and UEL headers, check engine light comes on and off every couple days.
I have the defouler in but it’s still throwing the code help
