Incredible video man! I just bought a set of Bilstein shocks, new wheel bearings, lowering bolts, stainless steel brake lines and a pair of new sway bar end links. Since I have to pretty much remove everything in order to get to the wheel bearings got me thinking to replace the ball joints and this video made it look like a breeze. Well done and thank you for explaining everything.
Very well-done video and great explanations! I need to replace my C6 ball joints. This video gives me the know-how and confidence I can do this myself.
I just replaced the lower ball joints on my 03 Z last night. I was raising the ride height a smidge via my coil overs. Didn't remove the control arms from the car. Used a breaker bar to remove & install. Went like buttah! I just needed the wife's assistance (only cost me a take out pizza) on install to hold the press and receiver together over the control arm while I supported, lined up and snugged the tool. Probably the best, and heaviest tool I got from HF. Thanks for your videos.
im doing this next week. I was thinking it would be easier to leave the lower control arms on the car. Easier to loosen everything up too before you remove the top arm to swing it down.
I have a question if I am just. Replacing the. Hub bearing can I get away with just I'm doing the four bolts up on top and let it fall towards me so I can loosen the three bolts for the hub bearing.
Thanks Chris going in the library of best vids. By the way Chris Your channel has step up 100% , vids are like the class room awesome job 2 thumbs up 👍😊
My c6 2005 corvette was swaying back and forth over bumps. The dealership said they " tightened" the ball joints. It works now. Just wanted to know if I got ripped off or am I in future trouble?
Good call on the HF ball joint separator. Some trimming may be needed to the fork to fit well enough but it was a good time saver for cheap $15 and no damage to any control arms.
Dude, first of all, great catch on that upper arm. Thanks for this. I'm getting ready to tackle this. Going to clean the arms and spindle up. And while I got it blown apart going to replace the wheel hubs. Perfect timing for this. Glad to see you wrenching again.
@@mycorvettelifedo you have a time frame in mind? I'd really like to get all the information before I start. Once I have Jasmine up in the air, I want a complete bushing, ball joint and wheel hub replacement at one time. Love driving my C5 and want to minimize the down time. Great job Chris. You and a couple others offer up so much info that save guys like me time and valuable money. C5 parts not cheap to replace if you break something not made any more. Again thanks alot. God bless.
Now your last cleaning video makes more sense. I like a clean suspension as much an anyone but taking thing out to clean is a bit much ( great content btw). Im the vett onwer you mentioned the future owner
Great video, can you tell me the part numbers or the link to purchase the same ball joints? Do you know if the rear ball joints are the same than the front?? Thanks
Top and bottom are same front/back. There are a variety of brands to choose from. That’s why I didn’t provide part numbers. Everyone has their preference.
I just learned that there are different types of bushings for different types of Rides/Handling. One type of bushings from Summit or somewhere cost over $1000!!!! but it was for track mostly and very uncomfortable for road. What type of bushings did you choose? Thanks
Hi Chris, great videos, I have a C5 and they are very instructional. From who did you buy the ball joints from and what brand are they, I need to do my rear suspension including the rear outer tie rods. Thank you
Hay can you share your ball joint part numbers...hope your year is getting better...keep up the good work on your videos they are great...Best of luck with the new project
Any suggestions on the REAR bottom ball joint... no room to get the 6mm with the axle and can’t seem to get the separator fork in far enough to get the arm on top of the bolt....🧐
@@mycorvettelife that was a challenge. Glad they put flexible ends on it. TIGHT spacing... thx... now I gotta see if Autozone has a wider separator. The one from harbor freight is too narrow on the bottom one. BTW... one of these meets I will buy you a burger for all the help. I’m a zonie as well....
@@mycorvettelife I would like a demonstration to fully understand! Yes I'm anull!! LOL but do love My C5 and do all My work! Keep the videos comming! Wave from Alabama!
Is it totally necessary to remove the UCA from the car? I thought you could just separate the bj from the UCA and that's it. You'd be ready to separate the lower bj.
@@mycorvettelife So is it a clearance issue? I couldn't tell. Thanks for making the videos. I'm looking to get a C5 here soon. They're a bargain right now!
Hitting the side of the spindle works awesome and few people know that trick. But don’t be a wuss about it. You really Gotta put some ass into it with a big hammer. -mini mallet (At least for rusted 245k mile duramax silverados)

I realize sometimes in the moment I call “bolts” nuts and “nuts” bolts. 🤣. My terminology isn’t perfect but I hope you guys get the idea.

Probably a dumb question but are the front upper and lower ball joints the same as the rear upper and lowers? I can only find the fronts online.

Nice video brother! Gonna put our Hyd Press to work this weekend 😂💪
What ball joints you used and where You purchased these ?
do you have to remove the rear axles to do the rear ball joints?
Did you do a upgrade for the C4 Corvette?
How many miles on the ball joints you replaced?
I was just told a dealership "tightened" my ball joints. Am I in trouble?

I got them from Corvette Mods. Generally they are not my go-to vendor, but I’ve had good luck with them recently.
I use top flight auto for all my corvette parts and accessories
I know this is an older video but I trick I have used on ball joint insertion is to put them in the freezer for several hours before Installing.

Any plans on making a suspension bushing replacement tutorial? These vids are very helpful!
Yes
Hi Chris where did you Source your ball joints from because eventually I'll probably have to do the same and please keep up these awesome videos!!
Corvette Mods.
@@mycorvettelife thanks, much appreciated 👍
What was your part number for the rear lower ball joints, was it the same as the front lower?

Front and real lowers are the same. Front and rear uppers are the same.
Torque specs call for say 15 ft lbs then 160 degrees 33 ft lbs please explain what this meens. Great video !
3 passes. 15ft lbs first pass, turn 160 degrees 2nd pass, 33ft lbs 3rd pass.

Hey Chris, what size rear tires are you using?
325. All my specs are in the video description.
Wondering where you bought your aftermarket camshaft for your c5?
One of the previous owners installed it. It’s from a company that doesn’t exist any more - Thunder Racing.
My Corvette Life oh okay. Do you know or recommend any other cams for a c5?
I would recommend either Brian Tooley Racing or Texas Speed
Are the front and rear ball joints the same?
Yes. Upper and lower are different sizes.
Castle nut and cotter pin.
Good job!
Superrrrrrrrrrr Thank you Chris

a 1500$ lift would make your life so much easier
I have one. And you don’t need the car 5’ in the air to do this.
A little heat goes a long way on the aluminum getting the joints out/in.
