These are just plastic-encased oil pastels. It's cheaper to buy the Crayola Portfolio brand oil pastels and saves a lot of one-use plastics. Too bad most gel crayon brands don't make refills otherwise it's nice as oil pastel holders.
My Korean friends introduced me to these “gel crayons” like a decade ago but they were neon colored and marketed as smudge-free highlighters, I never thought to use them as art supplies
I got a gel highlighter in college and…so much fun! Haha. That was higher quality than the crayons I have though, Sharpie makes a great gel highlighter!
Here in Brazil, people like to buy gel crayons for their children to draw on glass. Like, windows or shower boxes, you know? They say it's fun and easy to clean afterward.
Idk if i showed you those soft crayon highlighter pen things I got when I saw you in Japan, but I love them and I think these are like those! I must try them!!! 🥰🤩
These look really cool. Your big poster looks really smooth and it pops almost like it's digital art that was printed rather than coloured. I think it would be cool it's just like a poster.
It's so creamy, the layering reminds me of washi tape, an interesting piece could be a bubble piece maybe streams of different soda flavors controlled by a soda witch 0_0 just looking at new supplies gets my creativity flowin
I don’t know why but the big sky whales drawing just really brought me joy. One day you’ll have to combine all the different types of novelty crayons into one piece and see how you can use their strengths together.
I don't know why I enjoyed the swatches so much. Those colours just pop so much! I also love that they don't leave that typical rough crayon texture. I'm also loving these giant illustrations. I can't wait to see these framed and up on your wall!
I think this was my favourite drawing so far because of its simplicity. Also, we need a Kasey designed pin with "2021 year of the crayon" (the one being a crayon of course).
There's at least one other company that did these and I think there's others. I also think Faber Castle's Gelatos are an attempt at a fancy version of the same thing if you're interested but haven't tried those myself. I forgot what the ones I tried were.
Crayons have never been a favourite material of mine, but I love how solid these go down. Would be a fun material to use, were there more different colours included, I guess :)
These crayons sound a lot like the Art Crayons from Marabu. They behave the same but are marketed towards artists. I've used them and they are really buttery smooth. They are supposed to be water soluble, but not by much. They also have a blender crayon for smooth transitions.
Had a set of 12 of these when they were still called slick stix. They're so creamy smooth to draw with and if I hadn't lost them I think I would still be using them for art now
What I've done with gel crayons before is get an image colour the whole back of it and place that on a blank page so that when the image was traced with a pen the colours from the gel crayons would transfer to a blank page
We actually got 3 of those type of gel crayons in a Scrawlrbox a few months ago. I really struggled to use them and found they were awkward to work with. They'd lift a little with water (these ones were definitely sold as water soluable) but the marks where you drew on the page with still show through very obviously. I really wanted to like them!
crayola has gel scented ones as well. I love them. I use them with my coloring books take a little off the crayon with my wet brush, and put it on the paper.

As a child I had something quite similar to these colours. I loved drawing with them. Sadly I don't know what they called and if they are still produced to this days. They got glittery and shiny colours as well. Nice memories.
I have some of these, but when I got them they were marketed as window crayons. Like draw on windows with, but let me tell you...they're hard to get off when you leave them...well...when you leave them to bake on in the sun. LOL but imma have to try them on paper!

Not a big crayon fan but im in love with oil pastel and this is like their love child but more vibrant and smoother. Imagine having white gel crayon for blending them to create the oil pastel arts. But they seemed to be very transparent but really vibrant.
I'm in love with your crayon art there's something about it that brings me joy. I find it difficult to make simple art without feeling like I'm just stealing your style so I will just live vicariously through you.

Hi Kasey ! I was thinking, over the years of youtube videos, you probably accumulated a ton of different art tools. As I struggle so much with art supplies storage, I always wonder how does Kasey Golden even does ? She must need a second house to store all of these ! My point is : i'd love to see a workspace tour, or a video on storage !

It’s interesting how I had so many crayons products growing up from these, puff paint pens, connectable markers that you can build things out of, oil pastels, neons, scented ones, paints. The ones that didn’t last long they are currently bringing them back and marking them as new, even tho they’ve been on the markets before.
Watching videos about products I have to promote where I work (I work at crayola experience) is funny to me lol. Our slick sticks are pretty fun to use though, though I really just love any coloring tool that has a deep rich red color lol.

you should try little brian paint sticks!! they’re like these but even better! super smooth and layer really well but stay clean and won’t pick up other colours!
I believe there are actually artist grade gel crayons that even properly work with water I think and come in a lottt of pretty colors called gelatos or sth by faber castell?
I'd love to see a video where you use the fanciest of all crayons: Neocolor 1 by caran d'ache! Or Neocolor 2 if you prefer water-soluble ones. (They come in earthy colors!)
I love the Marabu crayons, but I bought a big pack off Amazon that is aimed at kids that I really like too, but I likje using both as a wet medium best.

Okay but what about Caran d’Ache artist crayons? They’re obviously pricier than regular crayons but they’re water soluble!
Neocolor II are water soluble the neocolor I are more like regular wax type crayons, but yeah sooooooo pricey! Crack open that wallet!

You should try working with cattle markers, they are kinda like those gel pens but probably thicker and they come in almost every color
