Exercises for a shoulder dislocation to help you recover quickly

  • A shoulder dislocation is a traumatic injury of the shoulder in which the humeral head (or the “ball” of the ball-and-socket joint) slides completely out of the glenoid (the “socket”). Since studies have recently shown a high rate of recurrent shoulder instability, especially in young athletes, orthopedic surgeons are increasingly treating even first-time shoulder dislocations in young athletes surgically. Still, many people can do well and recover quickly by performing regular exercises for a shoulder dislocation.

    ughhh just dislocated my right shoulder for the second time & im freaking pissed. The first time the humerus dislocated was 5 years ago and I've been in the gym lifting weights 5x a week since. I thought this shoulder was completely rehabilitated & strong so this recent event left me scratching my head & it's really eating at me. What i'm alluding to is, once you dislocate your shoulder it will never be the same again. Always have to be mindful about certain movements and surroundings. Ironically, this time they put it back in it took them a great effort as they said my surrounding muscles were very strong and makes it way harder to move. It was the most agonizing pain i've ever had in my life the doctors had to take a break half way through because they got tired from pulling it. What a day...

      @nicholasturchiano1762 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wiiplaya25 It has been one year since my injury and I can confidently say I have 70% of my previous strength in this shoulder. Granted I go to the gym habitually and did aggressive physical therapy sessions. I'm an ironworker so I depend on my limbs to bring home a paycheck haha needless to say I took it very seriously. If you take the same approach you'll be good to go in 6 months. I took three months off from work and went back. It's really important to remember purposeful movements and think about every way your body is interacting with what's in front of you. Mind to muscle connection is legit & can really help your rehab. Also, in the beginning I was getting really stir crazy in the house and just feeling pretty useless. Jocko Willink has some videos that talk about injuries and rehab and all that. It really helped me mentally throughout all of it and I think you could really benefit from it as well. All the best man, you got this 👍🏼

      @@Stateofmind00 hi friend. Exercising will not stop dislocations permanently (even years after doing exercises, you could still dislocate your arm with one silly and erratic movement) , however it will bring some much needed mobility, strenght & stability to the joint. Obviously everyone's different. But I think the only way to permanently stop dislocations is by arthroscopic surgery. But if you're not a physically active Individual, or don't have to do physical activity because of your job, then exercising should work fine for you.

    • @MrRemixV3

    4 shoulder dislocations now. The length between my 3rd and 4th was 5 years. Took alot to come out and this most recent one was a clean anterior dislocation. Without sling I feel 80%, havent raised my arm above my head waiting for physio to give me the clear but now considering surgery due to my crazy athletic lifestyle, if you rock climb or do that type of motion in your lifestyle. It seems surgery is the best option to go.
    Or I can keep strengthening and get back in 1 month to 1.5 months full range of motion as my last dislocations.

    I dislocated my shoulder alit a year ago, it popped out and was stuck for a minute before i popped it back. It was slightly popping in and out every few months but yesterday when I was playing basketball I went to hit the ball out somebody’s hand on a rebound and it popped out all the way, I kept moving my arm until it popped back and now my shoulder hurts today pretty bad. Once a dislocation happens it will happen again 💯 talking from my experience… u can never get rid of this problem in this life time .. but u can control the gap b/w dilocation Never forget about your dislocation if I forget i get dislocate.last time my shoulder got dislocated a 1.5 yr ago . now it’s dislocated again yesterday 🥲 “the only this i did was closing a fridge while walking forward.”
      For me my dislocation occurs mostly on front side of shoulder so when i do extreme work when hand is on back i get dislocated .

    I dislocated my left shoulder in a fall. I went to an ER to get X-Rays and have the humorous put back in place.
    I only worn the sling one day. I had only 40 degrees range of motion the first day. It’s been five days and the pain is only present when I rotate my elbow up.

    Sorry to dissapoint anybody if your shoulder dislocates more than once your best of getting surgery of our an active person otherwise you will keep getting reoccurring instability to the shoulder and eventually damage to a point where you will have nearly to no range of motion so I recommend go see a consultant about your shoulder if it pops out more than once even if your not active and it’s popped out more than once get it checked physio can only help early stages but once it happens a lot only surgery can help it to a certain extent, great video on some exercises tho maybe good to help recover after surgery or first time dislocation

      Jake Washington of course bro I have a friend who dislocated he’s shoulder he stayed out of training for almost a year but he has been boxing ever since and it’s over a year since it happened to him and he hits like a truck with the damaged arm he has full range of motion back and is normal because he did all the right physio and most importantly took the right amount of time off when it happened to me I didn’t take time off I returned like 3 months later and it dislocated again then I kept returning to early to the point I couldn’t even lift my arm straight up because it felt my bone was gonna pop I just had laterjet surgery 2 weeks ago and was told I can return to mma in a year or maybe a year and a half and I have no choice but to wait because if I damage my shoulder again it’s very hard to stabilize it again so my advice to you bro take a lot of time off go to physio and go see a doctor what do they think you will be fine tho and after maybe 4-6 months do some weights to build some strength in your arms, shoulder and back if the sport you do is rough give it longer than 6 months and do not listen to your friends or teachers or parents listen to your doctor and your doctor only you should be fine without surgery and return good luck champ!

      hey, i hope everything's going alright. i dislocated mine a couple months ago, it's been an annoying process, but i'd keep on resting it and icing it for a couple days, even a week. sleep with a sling. stretch it out (extend it, nothing too much) out maybe once a day. as the days go on, work your way to doing these excercizes- id wait a week or two before doing them.

    • @mikejones-vd3fg
      @mikejones-vd3fg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes its important to know what excercises you can do, it depends on your recovery, what phase your in, when i went into the doctors the physio told me not to move me arm like they show in the 2nd excercise, when he asks "how far do you go" the physio doctor told me not to move past a straight line while its still healing, you want to let the body add new tendons and ligaments and then you can work on mobility, i was told not move my forearm to the side, but i was told to do resistance excercises where you stand near a wall and do that motion- moving foreaerm to the side with the wall stopping you, thats supposed to strengthen, then you want to strengthen the other way, pushing in toward your chest with something stopping your hand, its also important that your shoulder is set correctly as it helps isolate the right muscles while doing these exercises, another one i was told to do was clentch my fist really tight until icould feel it on the top of my shoulder , thats supposed to activate where it was torn, and it takes some squeezing hard to start to feel it, another was scapula squeezes, and then some pendulum rotation to get blood flow into the shoulder, those were the only ones i was told to do 2 weeks after my dislocation. You can find these excerices in videos around here but they dont mention the fact when its ok to do them which you should talk to a physio expert for that, but i thought id share what the one in Toronto St. Michael's hosipital shared with me.

      It depends bro after first time dislocating you can wait 6 months and do a lot of strength and conditioning and hopefully your shoulder will be stable if your looking to go back to any activities involving contact There’s a high risk factor it will dislocate again depending on how well you look after it, if it dislocates more than once your probably looking at a small surgery to fix the labrum if it’s popped out a lot of times you could have broke some bone and will need a bigger surgery to stabilize it so be careful the shoulder can really ruin your day to day things if not looked after right

      @kevink.3412 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheOutlierToday For me it's actually been 4 times in the past 6 years. And also sometimes when I even tend to sleep in the wrong position, I still feel that the ligaments aren't intact as they should be but I still worry not, because as you will notice, less efforts activities or actions won't cause the dislocation, but rather those fast sudden shocks of which you weren't ready for are the ones that often cause such (In my case, all the 4 times disclocations happened when I was playing basketball, and whilst trying to block someone or got blocked and the other person hit my arm in an opposing direction than the one I was trying to push forth to, then It would dislocate).
      One of the ways I use to avoid often dislocations is learning well in which situations I get or likely to get a shoulder dislocation and avoid such as well as doing some should joint muscle strengthening exercises which really helps... like I've been doing some of that, and now I am at the stage of doing some weight lifting comfortably without that feeling as if your shoulders are tending to dislocate.
