Michael English is a very talented and remarkable singer , definitely one of the all time greats and the best GVB singer ever. At the peak of his singing powers he could sing anything from gospel , pop , rock , soul and classical. With his incredible powerful tenor he sings from the heart filled with emotion and conviction. He doesn’t just have a powerful voice but a powerful and beautiful testimony. May God continue to bless Michael 🙏🏻
the unique thing about these three singers Michael, Guy, and David is on how they've sung this song to fit their own different unique voices and I never get tired of watching all of its videos. but I gotta say, that I am shocked to see this version of the song sung by Michael in a totally different way. At this age, he has so much power and pitch reaching these amazing high notes. No wonder, the Gaithers are the best. Michael paved the way for the rest of the Gaither powerhouse of singers like Guy Penrod and David Phelps. Michael English is so amazing in this clip and he still is even today. Now I hear his hymn album and it's just amazing...Thank You Michael...and to those that have made this videos possible for all. God Bless
This video, and this delivery of the song still amazes and moves, and I don't know if there is any better version in their concerts over the years than this one! The message of the song speaks, and the vocal interpretation drives the message home!
It is amazing the difference between Michael here and the way he is now. You can tell that God has really done something for him. The songs mean so much to him now. Praise God for Victory.
I am fan of Michael and of David. But I am a Fan of you guys that Post these wonder videos up. I am enjoying these older ones and seeing and hearing Gloria sing. I am so thankful that God used Bill Gaither to bring all of these annointed singers together and make these videos that have been a blessing to many many people through these years. Thanks to all the uploaders.
If this is the song he performed the night after having had the panic attack, as described by Bill in his Micheal's book, he is not being self-centered nor acting. I've had panic attacks and they're devastating. If anything, he is praising God for giving him the ability to sing before everyone that night. I admire his dedication.
friarspoint he did have a panic attack but god touched him while singing ive been with him but he just pushes thru an sings for the lord . my friend Michael always love being there when he sings
I believe that his presence helped, for sure. Michael, at least in my eyes, was the link between the old and the new. On the very first video with the quartet of Mike, George, Glenn, and Jim I saw something special. I'm not sure anyone could have served the purpose that Mike did when Gaither was getting his Homecoming footing. Everyone in Gospel music at the time respected, and most enjoyed, Mike. He's the only one who could pull off "Lamb of God" and turn around and sing "Going Home."
Gaither commented in the GVB Reunion DVD's that English has a "tear in that voice" to draw out the blood of the song. Still, I have to say that his life choices did tear up that incredible voice that used to bring the roof down.....I miss it as it used to be.
Actually if you'll read Michael's book, The Prodigal Comes Home, you'll read that the Gaither's didn't drop him like a hot potato. He launched out on his own as a soloist about the time all of the stuff hit the fan. Gaither hired him to produce the "Testify" album so that he could have some work. The book is really great. Its almost like he is sitting in your living room sharing his story with you. God bless you!
When Michael was 11 yrs old, he sang with his brother Biney English and The Singing Samaritans. Our group sang with them in a contest by Tidewater Gospel Music Assoc at Indian River High School in Chesapeake, Virginia.
This is one of my favorite songs that Michael sings. He sings with such compassion. I could listen to this song over & over. Thank you for sharing this video, it is amazing.
Absolutely!!!! He sings with so much passion , emotion and conviction. Definitely the best and most versatile artist in the Gospel Christian music genre
there is nothing wrong with watching these videos and having an opinion on whom is better...they are awesome and it is fun to watch and debate...it doesn't take away from the "religious" side of it...lets not forget that they are professional entertainers and musicians as well as christians
In the winter of 1995, we had another lovely granddaughter, while was in Texas, I found a channel that led me to all the gospel music I didn't know existed. I purchased VHS tapes everytime I went to Texas there after. I was fortunate to have a tape that ws done when Mark, Terry and, Michael were part of Bill's quartet! It's priceless.I was sorry to see how judgmental Christians could be and how that is GOD' job , NOT OURS. To Shortgal 100 yes, it is great. Can you find at all?
So true. David is the best legerro tenor I've ever heard, but even though Michael sings in a lower key, it is full, with a definite edge. I like them both, but Michael English for me is more inspiring, and more tied to his internal depth and feelings.
WHAT!?! English could be in the same conversation as Michael W. Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman if he had appreciated how God brought him to Bill and Gloria in the first place. Michael gave Gaither his footing with some of the Southern Gospel talent, but Gaither already had a heritage in it. Gaither has the distinct gift of knowing just what is right for the situation and the audience. That is what makes him what he is. Oh did I mention the hundreds and hundreds of songs he has written, too?
I hope everyone enjoys these videos, but I didn't post them as a competition between Michael and David. They're both awesome singers, and each have their niche. There are so many videos of David out there, so I thought I would post some of Michael as well.
that understand that is a pretty big statement but i definite agree with you. he was such a unique talent and when you look at where they were when he started and how big they were when he finished it is crazy. also when he was in the group the lead sang everything unlike now when all four members get a lot of leads
BassAce316, you're exactly right. His solo career had already taken off and plans were well underway for Mike to leave the GVB and strike out on his own before the Marabeth mess came out. dudesouth14, the Gaithers, Mark Lowry and Tonya and Michael Sykes have stood by Mike through all of his troubles.
There is a difference between dropping someone and giving someone some space....When English sinned, he was tremendously fortunate to have people like the Gaithers, Mark Lowry, and the Goodmans still supporting him. But these people had the spiritual common sense to not do what too many people want to do...make a bloated, public showing about how "we still love this man and no one should judge him for what happened because he has already dealt with it with God." Is that what you wanted?
There are a few snippets of Michael on TH-cam. Jeff and Sherry Easter just posted one. One of the Hoppers did too. He and wife Traci Ellis live in Florida.
How many people in Gospel music aren't simply performing? Not many I would guess. Some of my favorites from over the years, even ones I am sure were genuine people with the right motivations, were working from a script most of the time. I always despised that.
@cceldrid01 Michael was part of it, yes....but Bill has ALWAYS surrounded himself with stellar talent. Steve Green, Sandi Patti, Larnelle Harris, Gary McSpadden, Jon Mohr, Jim Murray, were all around Bill before Michael.....and of course, Mark Lowry, Guy Penrod, David Phelps, Wes Hampton, and others during his hiatus. Combine that with Bill & Gloria (Gloria - words / Bill - Music) as a writing team, and you get the modern Bill Gaither. Well, plus the fact he bought a video camera around 1990.
Jhn 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. he deafted death and hell and the grave. PRAISE THE LORD .
palmasdr question , you think there is a "best" or "better" for God, when both worship with the best they got? dont you think is a little unobjective for a Christian to compare when the point is how they worship or if they give the Lord the best the have :)
No problem. There seems to be a decisive split between Phelps fans and English fans, at least when deciding whose version is the best between the two on any song that they both sang. ¿Usted no puede hablar inglés? La mayoría de las personas no le pueden entender.
English has the better hair....winner! Just kidding - comparing these two is like trying to compare Anthony Hopkins and Cary Grant - different styles, different strengths, different ways of dazzling.

Michael at the peak oh his singing career. Incredible, and I have to agree with every word you say.

Amazing🔥 Love Michael.
Thank you Jesus the battle is over and is won , the trio is so special we are blessed
It is amazing the difference between Michael here and the way he is now. You can tell that God has really done something for him. The songs mean so much to him now. Praise God for Victory.
I just read how Gloria and Bill were the writers of that wonderful song. What a blessing they are to the world!!!
The best version of this song!

eu amo a voz do michael english. sinceramente

This is one of my favorite songs that Michael sings. He sings with such compassion. I could listen to this song over & over. Thank you for sharing this video, it is amazing.
i love michael on 3:03 through 3:37. that was the best vocal performance i've ever heard
He blew the doors off.
💯...absolutely!!!
I love David's voice but nobody sings this song like Michael!!!
+Joann Wood lol
Lol
Michael's voice here was at its best
Absolutely!!!! He sings with so much passion , emotion and conviction. Definitely the best and most versatile artist in the Gospel Christian music genre

Thank you! It would be neat if everyone who had any of these pre-Homecoming videos would post them up.
Pre-Homecoming stuff is so rare.
WHAT!?!

I believe that Michael English is an instrument in the hands of god, but the glory is of God
wow...loved the video and love, love hearing Michael. Very good one and thanks again for the older stuff!

So has Jesus
Goosebumps! :)
That is exactly correct @niteowl4861... Finally someone gets it.
David Phelps has an incredible range... that's about it...
I believe that Michael English made Gaither what he is today.
There is a difference between dropping someone and giving someone some space....When English sinned, he was tremendously fortunate to have people like the Gaithers, Mark Lowry, and the Goodmans still supporting him. esse tipo de finalização de Michael diz quem estar cantando é o Gaither
I want to.know how Michael is TODAY?!
There are a few snippets of Michael on TH-cam. Jeff and Sherry Easter just posted one. One of the Hoppers did too. He and wife Traci Ellis live in Florida.
Who is that singer in the tan slacks? He has a very good voice.
Michael English
How many people in Gospel music aren't simply performing? Not many I would guess. Some of my favorites from over the years, even ones I am sure were genuine people with the right motivations, were working from a script most of the time.
I always despised that.
People can compare if they'd like. You sure did, and not in a very respectful way. I'd prefer it if people would just enjoy the videos.
@cceldrid01 Michael was part of it, yes....but Bill has ALWAYS surrounded himself with stellar talent. Well, plus the fact he bought a video camera around 1990.
I agree and I love the ones with Guy Penrod singing the whole song and with Guy, David Phelps, and Russ Taff.
Jhn 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. he deafted death and hell and the grave. PRAISE THE LORD .
That’s quite a hair hat.

I was wondering where was this concert? It just seems really familiar to me. Thanks for any answers.
First Baptist Church, Hendersonville, TN.
Hey dshelton47, do you have the video that you mentioned? If so, can you please post it up? Thanks!
@dphillips81 - Yeah, I know.
I'm not sure what about my post made you think I suggested otherwise.
I agree...but, like David a little better. Either way, they are both great singers and men of God.
English has the better hair....winner! Just kidding - comparing these two is like trying to compare Anthony Hopkins and Cary Grant - different styles, different strengths, different ways of dazzling.
Nope... David has a higher range... that's all...
Come on....David is better than Michael...
he just appears self-centered here.
