    Soo-An singing at the ends always breaks me. I love that she couldn't finish the song in school because her dad wasn't there, and her finishing it at the end saves her life. I've always read it as her dad being with her forever because of his sacrifice and I think that's beautiful.

    I hope not only me appreciated the heroism of the Homeless guy not just once, but twice. First, when he covered a cloth to the zombie's head who's attacking Gong Yoo's character, second when he sacrificed his life for the pregnant woman and the little girl. :((
    One of my favorite characters in this masterpiece.

      I did 😭 At first i was so suspicious of him, but he's such an underrated character. This was probably the first time someone cared about and saved him and he paid that back by sacrificing himself. Its just one of the things that makes it one of the best films i have seen so far. 😭❤️

      @Anontaku from what I understand, production was severely delayed (like everything else) due to COVID, but principal filming is in the can and it's just in the post-production phase. No release date yet, but all signs point to it being some time in 2022 if all of that is true.

    Korean movies and dramas have both joy and sadness. And it's realistic. You can fall in love with the movie because of the actors' amazing acting.

      Korean drama is so good cuz they really show the ugly side of humanity at its perfection, I swear the Oscar best picture movie Parasite displays it masterfully but I will never ever watch it again cuz no other film have make me more uncomfortable than this(it’s a compliment cuz that’s its purpose)

    Gong Yoo is an amazing actor. I first watched him in a k-drama called Goblin. He was so good, you have no idea how much I cried in that show. Since then I try to check out everything that comes out with him in it.

    This movie is great not because of the zombies but the human story in it. This is the area that the Koreans are just so good at. Their film-making is truly an art form for human expression, not just for entertainment.

    I remember the day I watched this movie with my parents. We loved it. But we're a somehow "cold" family, we don't show sadness that easy, especially not in front of other family members. But the moment we heard the girl singing, this facade broke down. I tried to hold it in for a few seconds, but I couldn't. It fucked me up in so many ways. I started crying like the girl itself. My parents teared up too, especially my dad. We sat there in silence for a few minutes. It was a somehow weird, but beautiful moment.

    I think the reason korean movies use a lot of father/daughter is from what I know is korea has a very competitive society and since fathers are usually always working to provide, a lot of fathers miss the opportunity to be really there for their children, and honestly it’s not only korea I think most people in general.

      Also it can be a commentary on how expectations of society affects men, like if they don't go work and provide they're not "man enough" or "they don't care" but at the same time like you sad the constant working won't let them be near the people they care abt and is heartbreaking

      If you work extra hours and don't take your days off to go home to your elderly parents, your a bad son. If you take your vacation days and use it to go to your parents, your not working hard enough so no promotion/pay raise and your a bad provider.
      Your damned either way. It's why a lot of elderly in Korea are killing themselves so they won't be a burden to their children.
      South Korea didn't have it's industrial revolution until the 1960s. Transitioning from families living on farms to workers living in cities is not smooth.

      @@zinnia5659 he is kinda selfish when he closed the door on the couple, lightly scolded his daughter for giving up her seat for an elder lady, kept his inside information a secret from everybody else when he knew they were going the wrong way.
      These little things are there to show what his character was before and how he changed.
      The other businessman was a sort of reflection of the main character if he kept on the same path.

    There are BTS clips of this movie, that show how Su-an goes from acting traumatized to then laughing after the shoot is done, because the director said something funny. She really is a great actor.

    train to busan isnt the saddest movie i’ve ever seen but it makes me cry the most! the relationship between the fathers and their children was really heartwarming. its amazing how this zombie horror film has touched the hearts of so many.

      You see, men generally have a hard time crying and showing emotional vulnerability as it is not acceptable in many cultures and we are generally told to man up when we cry or show sadness, so it, in a wierd way, good to see two grown men to openly cry when presented with such a good scene.

    Just a minor note: the contact name of his ex-wife in his phone did not say “ex-wife.” It actually said “Suan’s mom.” Idk why they didnt just write the right translation. There’s nothing difficult to understand about “Suan’s mom,” since the audience knows they are divorced already since the beginning of the movie.

    My daughter calls me "Appa" and screams like that when I leave for university or work. Makes it hard to leave but I can't imagine being in the fathers circumstance at the end. Her cry just hits different now that I'm a father.

    I remember someone commented roughly like in a situation where everyone is trying to survive there will always be a person who would act like the businessman who would use other people to survive. And every time I watch this movie I can’t get that out of my head.

    It's very common in Korean film industry that if a minor character is played by a huge star, you just know that the director has plans for that "minor character". In Squid Game, Gong Yoo and Lee Byunghun (Front Man) are two of South Korean A-list actors so you can expect them playing bigger roles in Season 2!

    man, watching this reaction is a double edged sword, I've cried ENOUGH at this movie dang it! LOL
    fun fact! When Su-an speaks to her dad in the beginning of the movie, she uses formal speech, but when she speaks with her mom, she uses informal speech. So to korean-speakers this shows even MORE of a contrast between her relationship with both parents. But by the end, Su-an uses informal speech to her dad too, making the ending even more heart breaking T_T

    This is probably one of the only movies I can watch without subtitles and still know what's happening just by the amazing acting of the people who they cast in these roles. Like damn, no other movie I've seen this year has made me feel like this one has, and no other zombie movie really seems to capture this same feeling, and I love it!

    MOst of South Korean actors performs like this. Thats why i really love KOrean dramas and movies. Because its like natural for them to act. Watch Miracle in Cell no. 7 and you will cry a lot.

    Goddamn this movie floored me too. The heroic sacrifices had me teary eyed. That little girls reactions got me bawling. And the ending song she sings is “Aloha O’e” and being from Hawai’i, it hit home literally and it’s used to as a send off song for loved ones who passed away. Definitely perfectly used and it’s such a heavy and beautiful movie!

    Don Lee who plays Sang-hwa IS the person cast to play Gilgamesh in the Eternals!
    I really like his character in the movie (might be my favorite) so im excited to see him in Eternals

    The time it takes to turn into a zombie depends on where the bite is. If the person is bitten on the neck, it takes almost no time to turn into a zombie. But if the bite is located on the hand, it takes much longer to turn.

    I absolutely love that there's very little hand holding in this. And the subversion of tropes was brilliant. Our main character isn't the one saving everyone. He's actually kind of a shitty person. And there's no "have to find the cure!" subplot

    If this is you entering the Korean movies world then I would highly suggest watching "Ode to My Father" and "A Taxi Driver" these two movies will drain you emotionally and for sure be one of the best movies you've ever watched.

    this is my absolute favorite zombie movie because it epitomizes what zombie movies are all about: the human condition in survival situations. you are so immediately connected to these characters that even the two older sisters, when they are in danger, you feel anxiety even though we don't spend that much time with them. and yes, Su-An's actress is a beast lol when she cries, I cry.

    I think it's wonderfully done how we learn as much as one train ride could teach us about someone. and well in danger chit chatting is turned to a minimum, but I found it charming how they felt like real people who were heading somewhere and we only heard their surface thoughts.

    As many mentioned before Gong Yoo is a versatile actor. His acting here is compared to Jimmy Stewart but the actor is not afraid to do comedic roles. Some of the other series he's done are ridiculously funny and heartbreaking at the same time.

      When I watched Peninsula in the theater, I was very disappointed.
      I don't know what happened. The sequel is written and directed by the same director of Train to Busan.
      If Train to Busan is 10/10, Peninsular is only 5/10 for me.

    Also HIGHLY recommend “I saw the Devil,” starring Choi Min-Sik (Old Boy) and Lee Byung-Hun (G.I.JOE, Terminator Genesys, Magnificent 7, Red2) who also plays the “Frontman” with that face shaped dark grey mask.
    Its basically Tom and Jerry, or rather Itchy and Scratchy, just with real humans. One being a psycho serial killer and another one being a NIS-agent (=CIA in the states) who has completely lost his mind, and is just extremely pissed off at the psycho. And Vice versa.

    I watched this movie after watching Parasite because I was drawn to Korean movies and was thrilled how fast it got into the action. It was just non-stop and so good! IF you haven't seen it, you need to watch Alive as well. It's another Korean zombie movie.
