True it's like younger people might just see younger versions of "the adults" or people who remind them of their parents. There were young looking 25-30 year olds in the 80s too, but many more did seem to look middle aged
This came out when I was a kid and it was hilarious ... back when some commercials were entertaining. This man was super. So glad we have this available to enjoy all these years later.
Brilliant ad! And effective, too. I first saw this in high school; six years later, at my first real job, when I needed to send something overnight, I immediately thought of FedEx thanks to this commercial. I teach an advertising class at a community college. Now, I can actually show my students this commercial instead of just tell them about it.
I remember this commercial like it was yesterday. Amazing then, amazing now. What a fantastic commercial! John Moschitta really made a name for himself with this one. How he was able to pull it off without cracking is beyond me. Thanks for the upload!
And the fact that a mistake made the cut (dick, Dave and duck) since he said the line 29 times without screwing it up and they came up to him and said: what? Are you a machine? You didn’t make a mistake. John says: you want a mistake? I’ll give you a mistake.

So many little details that make this commercial so wonderful wonderful wonderful. The repetitions & alliterations (especially on the P's and D's), that smooth camera pan in the secretary's office, and the way John keeps his facial expressions fixed. Particularly in that last scene where his eyes look like they're locked & almost rolled into the back of his skull, while his fingers manically manipulate the phone buttons. They were really such small movements, but the robotic delivery & deliberate stabbing of the buttons make his movements look so much larger.

I can't believe that the guy can talk so fast. Then again, he IS the voice of Blurr from Transformers, both G1 and Animated. I love how everyone was talking so fast in this commercial, not just Mr. Moschitta. XD
This commercial for a present mail company starring the world’s fastest talker John Moschitta, Jr., back in 1981. The signature line “Okay, Eunice travel plans, I need to be in New York on Monday, LA on Tuesday, New York on Wednesday, LA on Thursday & New York on Friday, got it?” was widely imitated and became part of the American lexicon in the early 1980s. Mr. Moschitta, Jr., lived in the Southern California area and continued to act in national commercials.
The Golden days of FEDEX when it was FEDERAL EXPRESS. I was hired in 1984 and drove one of those vans shown driving up to the DC 10 I actually loved going to work then out of the Los Angeles station. That has all changed now. I did 35 years and retired in 2019. Those commercials where classic !!
And the best thing about this guy? TH-cam speech-to-text capture him pretty accurately. He's not only speaking his words with the speed of machinegun, but also clear enough that even youtube couldn't butcher it.
And here's the brilliance of youtube, not only are 80's babies like myself getting this delightful hit of nostalgia, but FedEx is getting free publicity for a commercial they put out more than 20 years ago. GOD BLESS THE INTERNET.

Crazy that John was only 27 in 1981 when this was made! People just seemed to look older back then.

The fact we can easily understand what he's saying, even at that speed, makes me think we're all talking too slowly and wasting time.
