So $1200 is less than $800? The tikka is a better deal all around. First your buying a likely accurate gun out of the box without the NEED to immediately add everything. Not to mention you buy 1 tikka and you’re ready to run short or long action with just a different bolt stop. Which also means one stock will fit all your tikkas (barrel contour dependent). And perhaps most important to folks like me, tikka is stainless. Comparing the cost of buying a compete rifle with the assumption that a new barrel and trigger are part of the cost (tikka barrel and trigger are plenty mint but ok I’ll accept trigger) to then buying a barreled action doesn’t make sense. Tons of tikka prefits.
Tikka have excellent barrels. I shoot 2 in competition, a TAC A-1 and a SS Varmint. I changed the stock on the varmint fir one with longer pull, but I can't say I have scored better with it.

This is a $900 essentially custom action. The solus has a similar pre-fit system and the street price is around $750, American Rifle company has a 700 pattern action that many companies sell pre-fit barrels for, Terminus is more money but has a "quick-change" system on their 700 pattern where you just hand tighten the barrel then use an allen key to tighten in the barrel and companies also make pre-fits for those. This isn't really a game changer at the price point, if it was $500 which makes more sense for an action given the street price of a bergara hmr is around the $900 mark and this would absolutely be a game changer and massive market disruption.

It actually is. I used the contact feature on their website and asked Bergara reps, can get different bolt heads for about $45 a piece if you contact them.
Mountain bikes and road bikes do this - sell you the frame and you buy all the components to finish it off. Not for everybody, but when you know what you're doing it's great.
Modularity would radically change the industry. The issue is that 29% are left eye dominant so nearly1/3 are left behind - way more than the stat of left handed. A rifle company that brings both actions to market will have a distinct advantage.
This reminds me of COLT and their .45 ACP pistols in the '70's. There was a Huge after market for guys who'd buy a .45 semi-auto, then ship it off to a gunsmith to have the rail tightened up, barrel replaced with aftermarket, trigger was replaced then honed and tuned, every spring was replaced, sights replaced and finally the grips were replaced. Seems Colt was still using the jigs from 19&41. Why they wouldn't make a quality pistol must have been the bean counters doing . . .
It would be nice for many other rifle manufacturers to sell their actions separate. Many times being a lefty, I'll like the action but already have the caliber. 300WM 30-06 7mm Rem 308 6.5CM 22-250 and 223. The very short list of calibers for left handers, yeah a couple more but that's the typical availability... I have resorted into buying a custom action and building form the grounds up to get outside the bubble. Such as 6 GT. try to find that left handed!
The more you shoot competition, the more issues you will have from the Remington action. I had major frustrations from the Remington safety on the Rem 700. The 2 position safety also leaves you up the creek when your trigger settings goes south. I like the 3 position safeties for this reason. Safety placement shouldn't get in the way of cycling rounds. They make a Savage style barrel replacement for Remington 700's if you want to keep your mistake! Savage barrel nuts make a barrel change as simple as changing the barrel on an AR.
You have a lot more money than I do. Enjoy it. Just remember that 90% of us will always buy the complete factory gun and love it. Your video is really just for that 10% or less that can afford high dollar guns.
Barrelled actions…NICE! What you described in this video is what happened to me. I bought a Bergara Premier rifle and upgraded it to a MDT HNT 26 chassis. Hindsight, barreled actions are the way to go! If I could do it over, that’s the way I would go. Happy Hunting! 🤙🏼
That is really exciting news. I am literally in the market for a new rifle. Maybe not so much now and rather I am in the market for the parts for a new rifle.
This is the future! Who doesn’t want this flexibility and pride of building (assembling) their own quasi-custom and creating a family heirloom! And, for some, it’s not as “scary” as other build options…
Weatherby has offered the 307 action since the release of the 307, it also has the Remington footprint . I don't know if the complete barreled actions are avaliable.
If I am going to build a coustom rifle, I am not going to buy a factory action or barreled action . Like the old saying goes their's a sucker born every day . The best thing on the market today would be (Outlier) coustom action & barreled action, chassis Exc . $100 barrels $200 action Exc. Don't take my word, just look them up and see for yourself . Outlier barrels. Check out all the awesome reviews on their products. Now that's a deal . You can spend $900 with Outlier and have a complete rifle . I'm not trying to break your balls, man . That's not a deal at all from Begara at those prices. That's actually called Goulding your customers for factory parts. God bless you and your family God-bless America 🇺🇸 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
I'm not comparing Bergara to Savage, but Savage has done this for years. Northland Shooters supply has sold them for a long time. Dual port with a 20 MOA rail for $580. Standard actions $490 and up to $800 for target action.
I just bought a B14 Carbon Wilderness in 6.5 PRC on sale and slapped it in an XLR Element 4.0 chassis (that I also got on sale) and now I basically have a Bergara Mg Lite for almost a $1000 less than MSRP. Still pricey tho.
Great idea. Love the that they finally have affordable stainless options. However, 1200 is still steep. If they made it 1000 I think they would get more consumer support. Tough too compete with a howa 1500 (~$500) or Tikka t3 (~800). Also, they should add 7 rem mag. They have 300 win. Velocity data is just not there for 7mm prc, 7 rem mag is something common everywhere, and 7 rem mag is one of the best is a one gun game calibers. If they switch It too $1000 I’d consider buying two.
Need to mention that the bergara is on a remington 700 footprint. You have a 700 stock you are in business. You guys should look at Mack brothers actions. Amazing machine work for the cost.
Howa has been selling barreled actions for years. This is what I’ve done for quite a few rifles. Most factory stocks do not have the correct length of pull for me. Buy a barreled action, get a stock built with the correct LOP
Howa 1500s have been available in just barreled actions from Brownells for quite a while now. I bought one of their mini actions in 6arc a month or so ago and threw it into a carbon fiber stock and it is now my whitetail rifle. Oh and the price of a Howa Barreled action (obviously depends on exactly what you get) is less than $500.....and that includes the trigger, bottom metal (plastic), and magazine........... Thats cheaper than just the bergara action alone. And it fits in the same footprint as the weatherby vanguards. Now its definitely not as nice and doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the bergaras have, but for those looking for customization but not wanting to spend a couple thousand getting there, its a great option. I'm sure you have some partnership with Bergara but you should really do a follow up video of the Howa 1500 barreled actions
For the price they are asking for just the action they would have to guarantee headspace. I can get a Defiance Classic for just $100 more, and it has guaranteed head space.
Ill stick with my Solus actions.. integrated recoil lug and rail and 60 degree throw and dual ejectors.. So far im not too pleased with the Bergara stuff ive bought lately. I just got a 7mm-08 back from them the other day that wouldnt shoot, so they rebarreled it..
It should be pointed out though that Tikka actually has really really good barrels from factory. So you changing barrels would only be necessary if going for carbon or a wildcat/special caliber. Otherwise you can't go past its capabilities while hunting at even just barely still ethical distances. And if you really want to go wildcat or uber-precise, Lothar Walther will happily sell all different kinds of barrels for the Tikka, which not just cover nearly all calibers you could fit in that action, but also are some of the best in the world in terms of quality and accuracy. And they are competitively priced. And that a base Tikka is cheaper than the action you are pushing here. So you'll still have a cheaper build. And that Tikka has much more reliable triggers. I get the excitement for building some custom PRS rig. But for hunting you don't need to chase that last 0.1" at 200 yards.
If this was a $200 I would be excited. At $1200, I'll just upgrade a savage, used remington 700, hell even a new tikka or m70, You can just throw everything away as you upgrade and still save a ton.
My main hunting rifle is a bergara premier approach in 270 win that I picked up on clearance for $1200. Definitely not a light rifle but I don't generally pack it too far and it is incredibly accurate.
I get the sentiment, but I gotta say I would much rather just have the baseline, Tikka. Its more affordable, shoots better out the box, and I don't believe I've heard anyone complain about anything with those guns. Super reliable. This change ONLY helps those who want a slightly less expensive custom build. But I still prefer the Tikka action.
Bout time someone started doing this. I like my Bergara Ridge 300wm but I’m not crazy about the super slanted grip. I’d like something more straight that feels more natural. I’ll explore some of these new stock options. But I’m sure it will be hard to sell my original stock.
I was happy to see them start selling actions and barrel actions again. Would be nice to see their barrels by themselves too. I had called and talked to them when I originally started looking to build one because have loved their actions. I recently learned can swap bolt heads on them for about $50 so now I am really tempted to grab one and start swapping pieces, other than shouldered prefits are limited. Thinking of going long action just to run the 7prc or 300 prc. I also want to run the real short cartridges like 223 and 6arc. Bergara recommended not to run short in the long actions for feeding but I have seen in several forms it can usually work ok. What are your thoughts? Trying to be as budget friendly as possible at the moment.
That's awesome cause I just started doing a build with Outlier I got a 26" 6.5 Creedmoor barrel threaded for a Remington model 700 cause I figured this would be the easiest action to find so that's nice to know I got a second way to find an action without buying a used gun so i don't pay an arm and leg for a custom action
1,200 No trigger SHM. It will be tough to get a person on a budget away from building a Howa, Savage, or Tikka complete system. Get a chassis upgrade and trigger spring replacement, done! Dudes who have 1,200 to spend on this, will likely be in the market for an Impact action, trigger tech, KRG, or MDT elite chassis. I get it Remmington 700 blueprint action. However, many other elite companies offer the 700 blueprints. I'm looking at the SOLUS Short Action right now on sale for 600 bucks. It's 2024- 25 you can build a tact driver for 1,200 FFP scope included. Bergara try again!!!!
I would love if Tikka did something similar. No one builds a bolt action like a Finn, sadly the Finns never got that Americans like to tinker, and the tinkering will never stop
My next rifle will be a T3x super varmint, change the trigger and stock, I’m good. My present rifles are Xbolts, great rifles, I just don’t like composite stocks. After getting a custom .22 for NRL22, I like chassis guns.
I want to apologize for saying this up front , however I have many rifles and some are relatively expensive but I bought a Savage Axes just so I could burn up some brass I had a lot of . After 5 minutes of trigger work and handloads it shot 1/2 in 3 shot groups . So I bought another and another all with the same result . 223 , 243 and 2506 BTW I Put $150 dollar scopes on them also . 3 rifles with scopes about $500 each and 3 shot 1/2 in groups . I have not tried any factory ammo because I handload all my ammo for the last 48 years so I can’t comment on how they would do with it . I have not shot a 5 shot group with any of them because if the first 3 go into 1/2 in I don’t feel I would need a fourth or fifth shot ! Enjoy your expensive rifles they are very nice !……..
Aero Precision - Solus It’s the future of bolt actions, based on the rimmington 700. Any frame, any barrel, any fire control group. Other manufactures need to catch up
Unless the Bergara has swappable bolt faces (like the Zermatt Origin action), you are very limited in what cartridges you can swap to. For example, you cannot turn a 280AI into a 6.5PRC.

Q has already made the next gen customizable precision rifle. Their calibre conversion is so easy.
NOT TO MENTION SOME OF THOSE HIGH END RIFLES DON'T SHOOT ALL THAT GREAT FOR THE PRICE
Well @2:00 Sako s20s have the same headspace and tolerance as the 85, 90, A7, and tikkas. So yeah you could plop on a prefit pretty easy.
Howa isn't worth a mention?
Exactly, Brother!
No.
Sako only.
Excellent. Thanks Jim.
Innovations like these keep pushing the boundaries of what a reliable hunting rifle can do.
I like the below your breath “hopefully not” 😂😂😂
No reason to throwaway a tikka barrel !!!
Well....😅
I’ve been eying the Woox chassis and was thinking about dropping my Bergara into one. This works out perfect
Nice that Bergara is doing this now, but Aero, Christensen, and Howa have already been selling barreled actions.
$900 for a Bergara action?! I'll continue buying tikkas and removing the barrel.
You have a lot more money than I do. Enjoy it. Just remember that 90% of us will always buy the complete factory gun and love it. Your video is really just for that 10% or less that can afford high dollar guns.
Howa has been doing it for a while too
Still go back to my TC Encore…. First & best. Can’t wait for their new line
Man I’m so excited you’re building a 280AI. I’ve recently been looking into getting the 280AI. Look forward for the video on it.
Wish tikka would do the same
You can buy tikka t3x actions with trigger and bottom metal for $825
Oh and my son has purchased 3 bagara rifles to show me up. Gotta say I'm impressed they shoot very well
Barrelled actions…NICE!
There are many Remington clone actions out there. Check out Pacific Tool and Gauge
Glad you mentioned Iota. Fantastic stock for the money!
Thank you Jim!!!
Very welcome
This is why you buy savage guns! It's super easy to change barrels and cheap actions! Plenty of left hand options with savage also.
I'm not comparing Bergara to Savage, but Savage has done this for years. Northland Shooters supply has sold them for a long time. Dual port with a 20 MOA rail for $580. Standard actions $490 and up to $800 for target action.
Glad to hear we can start to get wat we want great news
....and if you're a rimfire guy, there's a barreled action from Bergara in 22LR too
I just bought a B14 Carbon Wilderness in 6.5 PRC on sale and slapped it in an XLR Element 4.0 chassis (that I also got on sale) and now I basically have a Bergara Mg Lite for almost a $1000 less than MSRP. Still pricey tho.
Weatherby sell the 307 action as a builders action and remington have always sold there actions separately. Cheers for the video mate
Interesting concept, never crossed my mind.
280AI is freaking awesome! Cant wait
Agreed, great way to build what you want from the beginning.
I believe Tikka prefix will work in Seiko receivers
I had a Seiko Forester re- barreled with a Tikka 284x6
Options are a very good thing, but pricing can limit how far we can go. Still... you do you and we can do the same. All is well.
You should do a video on rifles with iron sights. One unit in Utah now requires primitive weapons
This is exactly what I have been wanting. I rather not waste money on a stock i'm going to instantly replace .
You're still thousands in though. Just your basic Remington action costs as much as a whole rifle. Midway's been selling actions for years.
It should be mentioned, it’s that easy to change cartridges, as long as the case head diameter is the same…
For the price they are asking for just the action they would have to guarantee headspace. I can get a Defiance Classic for just $100 more, and it has guaranteed head space.
A rifle that is out of headspace is out of spec and doesn't function so it is covered by warranty. That guarantee is just marketing
Barnard P actions from New Zealand are the best.
Word.
Yeah, just wish the cheaper version of the Tikkas had a threaded muzzle.
@@backfire Just realized the US doesn't get threaded muzzles on all models as a factory option.
Mine is a 6.5 PRC
Just looked...Priced too high by about $300-400
You can get the Weatherby 307 (Rem 700 clone) Action by itself as well.
yes that is cool thank you for reporting on that. i’d have not had a clue! being a less-than-hardcore and only occasional hunter/shooter
Howa barreled actions from Brownells has been around for a while. Thats how I got my 6 ARC bolt action.
GREAT share, thank u!
Remington, Sako, Howa and other actions have been available for decades. This is nothing new.
Jim-You should order an Outlier barrel instead of waiting on the Oregon! I’ve been wanting to see you review their barrels.
Aero amd howa have been doing this. Also bergarra used to do this and bailed.
Just a few weeks ago I got a Howa 1500 barreled action in 6.5 prc, carbon fiber barrel from brownells . I hope more do this
Howa has offered barreled actions for a while. You might want to check but if im not mistaken in some instances tikka barrels fit Sako.
My next rifle will be a T3x super varmint, change the trigger and stock, I’m good. My present rifles are Xbolts, great rifles, I just don’t like composite stocks. After getting a custom .22 for NRL22, I like chassis guns.
Weatherby sells the Model 307 action by itself.
I like the factory complete guns plus if im.buy I'm buying just an action I'm either buying budget or completely top of the shelf
Aero Precision - Solus
It’s the future of bolt actions, based on the rimmington 700.
Good point
I absolutely love the idea of rifle builds. I love every firearm with all my heart. I respect all y'all making fine azz pew pews. I had to tap out at AR's. Im not rich😅
The wait is worth it for those barrels. They do shoot. But lee lacks communication or accurate lead times. But barrels are affordable and accurate.
