The cool thing about being old, retired and living in the country is I seldom have to leave my vehicle out of sight and if I do it isn't for long. I guessed B because I have a similar setup. I don't leave the truck gun in the vehicle 100% of the time. I selective put it in depending on what and where. The bag it's in is not easily identified as containing a firearm. Everything is a compromise so I am confident my EDC will be sufficient most of the time. I understand that decision is betting my life and the lives of those around me but a balance had to be struck. Thanks for the videos and thanks for what you do for our country.
I've been giving serious consideration to a 10mm Ruger LC Carbine setup for the truck gun and moving my EDC sidearm over to a mildly tuned Glock 20 10mm. Great ballistics, reasonable range, magazine interchangeability, can fit 2 30rnd Glock mags in a single AR mag slot, and wont break the bank if it grows legs.
I agree on 10mm. With Underwood Extreme Penetrators or Extreme Defenders. They will penetrate level 3 armor. So a small PDW like the P320 that John showed chambered in 10mm would be pretty good for short range. 300 Blackout for longer range. The 10mm in a six to eight inch barrel gives low end rifle ballistics that can stop bears. And humans.
First of all I don’t arm criminals so I don’t leave guns in trucks. Second my truck gun is a B&T SPC9 because it fits in a regular backpack that I take with me when I get out of my truck.
Needed to be said. Your car is not a holster. Criminals get guns by smashing windows and snatching them. The idea that John has a cheap PSA because he's fine if it gets stolen... I thought he'd be smarter than that. What you keep in your truck is less important than how you store it. If it can be stolen, you are doing it wrong. I like your idea of keeping it in a backpack that you take with you when you get out of the truck. Keeps it accessible in the unlikely scenario where you'd actually need it.
What are you doing with the bag when you get somewhere you can’t take it? Tons of places don’t allow people to just carry around a backpack in their establishment..retail for one..are you just back to just back to the car at that point? These are things I’ve struggled with so just curious what you do
I guessed your choice correctly immediately after seeing all 4 options. Ranger is as ranger does. High speed, low drag, range capable, low cost if lost. My personal choice would be my .300Blk. Set up similar to yours, it's compact, with a can, multifunctional with ammo selection, and won't wreck my senses. Currently has an LPVO, so target ID at distance is possible, but range with a 7.5" is limited.
Re listening to the warrior poet way. Damn John you made one heck of a book. Also gifted it to a friend. Merry Christmas brother keep up the good work. Looking forward to a second
Great things about guns is: You can have more than one without the others complaining, you can legally suppress them, when you get older you can trade a .44 for a couple of .22s and not suffer because of it. 🤷♂️
Amazes me every time I watch one of your video's these days. It doesn't seem like it was very long ago I was watching you at the 9k sub level. My boy has really grown up! lol. Great stuff as always John, hence still watching at 1.5 million subs!
I struggle with this one. There are days when my 11.5 Superduty does not leave my side, always accessible should the need arise. And others, when i don't feel comfortable leaving a $3k setup unattended. I also am very rarely in situations where my vehicle becomes out of sight, and i don't do too terribly much after hours, other than commute. I carry a duty sized handgun 24/7 and shoot it fairly well for most situations; but with the general rise in violence and terror activity world wide, i've found myself traveling with full kit more often than not if venturing out for more than a few minutes. Nobody is coming to save you and when terror strikes, those on scene need to be prepared to handle that situation accordingly, in my professional opinion.
Sig MCX-RATTLER LT .300BLK is my Bronco gun. Purchased a new Bronco, Raptor edition a few months ago... Love that thing. The Rattler is compact, fits in a lot of locations and is a rifle caliber pistol. Win/Win
When I was in LE I saw so many guns stolen out of vehicles, locked or unlocked. I don't recommend leaving guns in vehicles period. Most Police Depts/Sheriffs Offices are running on limited man power and can't be everywhere at ones. We had 4 Officers on duty for a city of 50K +. 4. That said we had a small budget so if you wanted a patrol rifle you had to supply your own. So I carried a older PSA I built for $289 counting the transfer on the lower. It ran like a top and I had thousands of rounds through it. That said it was a "patrol size" rifle so I don't generally carry it in my truck, but a, still cheap, folding ar is now my go to. If you have to use it, you may or may not get it back.
To be fair a lot of us who have "truck guns" live in areas with lower crime rates, and unbought judges. My Mother lives in a city with a high crime rate, and she keeps her doors unlocked so the unchecked criminals won't break her windows because she live in The Peoples' Republic of New York.
Great opinion. Feel the same way bout leaving a gun, unsecured, in a vehicle. If you prevented a tragedy, and your gun was taken, it’d be a small price to pay, but your point is spot on. If you have a $3000 hot rod AR, u will never get it back.
He snuck that it in there so smoothly! I'd be worried about what Dirty Mike and The Boys would do with a truck gun. I've heard stories of that they do with a jar of mustard. 😮
M&P 15 locked in a arma15 bracket behind the rear seat with a Master positional lock. Timing wise it ads about a second and a half to get it into service. It works for me. Hopefully I never need it. Great video sir.
I don't have a truck gun because vehicle thefts are common in this area. If I did, would be something cheap, reliable, and powerful like a mossberg maverick 88 or something.
I keep a 16-inch 300blk build with the springfield prodigy 4.5 both have plenty of extra mags with lvl 4 plates, running shoes, gloves and get home bag all in a locking strong box behind a locked tailgate
Something for where I live to think about is, loaded rifles are illegal in a vehicle, but pistols are legal, so a 12.5 with a brace is cool but a 16 w/ a stock isn’t.
@dirtygrunt some places like NY if you're compliant you cant have a fire arm with a magazine in the same case, semi autos have to be feature-less or pinned magazine and "assault pistols " as the state coined are pistols with a magazine in front of the pistol grip are also entirely illegal, along with other NFA items.
I personally wouldn’t leave an ar style rifle loaded with one in the chamber while in my truck. But some states now allow you to have one in the chamber of your rifle. Va is one of them. As far as truck gun, it depends on what truck I am in, and where I am going. Bear country I pack a Henry rifle. In the city 10.5 ar pistol. Other words pack accordingly

9 inch folding AR in 300 BLK, and a can in a backpack. If I park in a shady area, I just carry the backpack and no one is the wiser. One mag of subsonic for ultra quiet operation already inserted in the gun, a second Mag of supers in case stuff gets even more serious. Solves every problem mentioned in this video for me personally.

I've considered all kinds of secure storage from a James Bond/Batman type push button gun servo, to old fashioned bulky gun safes. Modern vehicles just don't offer much extra space like my old El Camino did - behind the back seat directly under the bed. Carving up my truck tailgate for gun storage is somewhat possible or in the tail light assembly , but both requires me getting out of the vehicle. What I really need is the blackhawk system that swivels when I turn my head. I'll have to figure out how to mount it to my roof with a stealth cover that opens but I'm sure that can be done as well. You'll have to do another video telling us where to stick em... when not in use.
I agree with the PSA as a truck gun because of the lower cost of buying it, and it's a good solid AR pistol. The only way I would probably go with the Flux is if it could be purchased in 10mm.
Helpful tip I’ve never heard in a video if you live in northern or cold areas make sure you either rock iron sights or see how your optic reacts going from warm to extreme cold or cold to warm.
HERE'S THE DEAL: 1. Getting home> moral grandstand. - You'd rather be home instead of in the joint awaiting trial, or having someone sue you, look at Daniel Penny, Kyle Rittenhouse. 2 Don't bring it to the truck if you're not willing to leave it in the truck. 3. Don't leave it in the truck if you're not willing to loose it.
I love the 12" SBR for being in vehicles in the urban/suburban environment. But my love is the 16" carbine with the ACOG/RMR. Keep getting after it Pastor. Sir? John? Ahem, keep it up WPS!
This falls under the same logic as NODs do for me: they are objectively something that will increase your capabilities but the chances of needing (and being able to safely deploy) the capability to reach out past 100-200m on a normal day are incredibly small. Additionally, closing that distance on foot is not always an unrealistic solution to this problem if you only have your daily CCW. I believe it really comes down to the financial situation you're in. If I'm keeping a rifle in my car, it's because I've already come to terms with losing the value that said rifle has to me. I really do think the chances of your truck gun being stolen are far higher than you ever using it. These circumstances obviously change if we enter a period of civil unrest (say, COVID 2), but then I'm just using my main rifle anyway.
Its fun to nerd out on different builds and ideas. I also appreciate the moral perspective here concerning leaving firearms in vehicles. The most recent statistics from ‘21 show the number of firearms stolen from vehicles each year is at least 50,000. Thats a minimum of 136 guns every day into the hands of criminals many of them repeat offenders, often violent felons. As stated in the video, be sure to Securely lock everything. Don’t be the guy who contributes to arming thousands of felons every year with free guns. 👊
So, I should be under-guned based on your supposed statistics? Your statistics likely only reflect cases where guns were used/fired to resolve a situation. I can attest to the fact that a Remington 870 is one hell of a deterrent. I worked a rural caseload of parolees and nobody ever challanged or even looked at me sideways when I was holding my 870. Just sayin.
As a cop, John is one of the dudes that if he showed up with a rifle I’d be like “right after you buddy” and then follow him into battle. I can recognize when I’m outclassed
My truck/suv guns are part of a kit that steps my EDC up to a full Low-Vis Get Home loadout that I can tuck under a mid-thigh-length coat. I replaced the 3rd-row seat(in my 08 Honda Pilot, pretty non-descript) with a beefy lock box to protect everything when I'm away from it. Otherwise, it's all in a Motocross gear bag in the middle of my back floorboard where I can reach the rifle from the driver seats. The bag has a low-vis shoulder rig/sling I made, a Safe Life Hyperline concealable carrier + ICW Fras plates and a 6.75 Virtus Upper/ADAC lower/Half Nelson/ Sig SD rail/ PA SLx 5x micro prism/HeroMod piggyback RMR/Viridian 4LUX Grip light(23-ish inches w/ suppressor mounted/stock folded). I also have a Terminus Zeus/JTAC Screech owl/14in CF 6ARC/Enticer S-Ti/ EOTech Vudu 5-25/VTAC backpack sling with sustainment gear/supplies that live in the box in case I have to abandon my vehicle and take out over open ground.
Great Video John!! I have gone thru the same considerations, and have similar options. I opted for the Palmetto State Armory setup exactly like yours for all the same reasons. I'm going to do everything I can to prevent it from falling in a criminals hands, but at least it won't be a $4k-$5k rifle if it happens. P.S. There options out there that unlock the upper part of the rear seat that may assist with concealment of the rifle with no slowdown in access.
Honestly the best thing you can put in your vehicle is a handheld monocular spotting scope. I got an old bushnell online for about 20 bucks. It’s a 12-36 power and I reach for that thing all the damn time. Looking at critters across fields mostly but if you can’t see it you can’t even gather info.
My truck gun is a PSA AR-15,16" with A2 birdcage & collapsible carbine stock, with a primary arms 2X prism scope and a Olight Valkyrie PL turbo immediately in front of the optic. Nothing hanging off the side except a Magpul M-Lok sling loop.
I like the can so I don't blast my ears out if I have to fire it IN my vehicle. - love the PSA - won't hurt if it's stolen and I can always put a can on it. Love the idea of straight lines with less to get hung up on.
Love the video John. I think you need to review the StopBox. They have a pistol set up and an AR/shotgun set up. I have a pistol set up for when my new baby is a tad older, but the AR one might be cool too. Would love to see your thoughts laid out in a full video. 2nd point: the flux would be a lot cooler in 10mm or 5.7. Would be a great backpack gun.
That low profile light was one of the best lights I've ever bought for my platform, works well with the C grip. Thumb rests right on top of the switch.
C is my answer and here is my reason. Its the least expensive to get stolen. its a very manageable size, maybe a law folder would help a lot! Also its the least "Tacticool" so if I was to get into and altercation, they cant use the fact that I have a super nice suppressed rifle against me. Just my opinion for the situation.

I think the odds of needing a truck gun are pretty darn slim, however, getting it stolen is way more likely. Vehicle break-ins are a problem everywhere, even " safe" neighborhoods. I would love to have one in my vehicle though!
AR-V with a Ballistic Advantage 5.5” enhanced feed cone barrel, 9.3” YHM handguard and a tucked CAT MOB. With the 30 round CZ Scorpion mags. It’s my go-to for portability.
That's where it's nice to have a truck gun that fits into your backpack. If you'll be parking in an unsecure area (yes, I know technically that's everywhere), then you throw it into your backpack aka laptop bag, and walk into the store, etc.
I have 8.5 inch short boi in 556 with a folding stock that makes it just smol enough to fit in a standard backpack. It’s my truck load out / ‘gray-man’ load out
I think there's a solid case to be made for a lever action truck gun. Less to get hung up on when grabbing it. Doesn't look "suspicious" before an incident and looks "less scary" in front of a jury.
Palmetto State has blemished uppers and lowers with magpul furniture. That’s what I got. Total of the whole gun was under $500. I keep that under the backseat in a storage box area in a ram 2500. It’s a full-size gun but fits in that nicely no optics no lights yet. If it does get stolen that sucks but it’s cheap enough to not hurt too bad but I do try to get it out at night, but I’m always in my truck all day never away from it. Also keep a spare mag next to it.

Thank you. You just gave me an idea I hadn't thought of. I'm going to look for a back pack that will hold one of my pistol builds.
@ glad to help.
These are things I’ve struggled with so just curious what you do
Guns get stolen from homes too
Ruger PC Carbine w/Vortex SPARC Solar in a Magpul backpacker stock
Isn't that the same issue as the Flux Raider? It is only 9MM.
Excellent thought for a responsible and moral person. Thank you for thinking through this situation.
Right on john thanks for your time brother...love my 11.5 bcm with a law tactical folder
Little River Band CD out of your Prius. 😂 Gator needs his gat! hahaha
Step one: Train hard & smart.
Two: buy what you can afford
Three: carry what you buy 100% of the time.
Four: repeat steps one through 4 forever.
Glad to see Hillsdale jumping on with you guys ! They are 30 minutes away from me good people
I don't have a truck gun because vehicle thefts are common in this area. If I did, would be something cheap, reliable, and powerful like a mossberg maverick 88 or something.
I don't either. I do have a backpack bullpup that I don't always take, but when I do, it stays with me, never in the POV when I'm not in it.
With rifle sights or a red dot, that's a good choice. Especially with slugs.
Yeah, you don't have another option
Just don't have a round chambered then it's not loaded. Only takes a second to chamber a round.
It's a hell of a world ain't it
John & Warrior Team , Thank You for all your content!!!
I carry the Kel-Tec sub2000 gen3 9mm with 147 grain Speer ammo…..
Folds super compact, fits anywhere, shoots accurate, reliable, stays in the budget. 💪🇺🇸

same here.
I have a CMMG Banshe. But, I would never leave it in the parked truck unless it’s on private property.
I’m with you: PSA, 16”, 5.56, shooting 64gr Federal LE Hi-Shok with an Sig Romeo 7 red dot and a light. Simple, not overly expensive, reliable. The Romeo 7 is big so I may go to a smaller optic
There’s AirTag attachments they sell, I would definitely recommend adding one if you do decide to keep one of your girls in your car. (Don’t, but if you do might as well add an AirTag).
Some AirTags are small enough to store inside the grip.
@@chuckray8389all of mine have them anyway. My backpacks have them hidden in them too. If you have a gun compartment cut a slit in the area with padding. Put one in and use Velcro to seal it back.
Excellent video brother!! Lots to think about!! Got mine all set up, but I ain't sayin' what it is!! Keep'em comin'!!
This video was actually made just so John could flex that he finally got rid of his old F150 with a million miles and got a Super Duty.
I hope it’s not a 6.4 powerstroke
He’d be better off with a gasser than a 6.4 lol
@ FR international really screwed up making the 6.4
It’s not really a flex with that 6.4. Had one, never again.
It can't be any worse than the '03 power stroke with the 6.0 .
As a little kid ive always wanted a P90 (Stargate, Metal Gear)... As an adult i still want one to keep in my vehicle. It might even fit perfectly on my door space
My truck gun is the one I’m carrying.
Long guns are better in every way
@
What makes you think I’m not carrying a long gun?😉
@@magdump7380 touché. Carry on
I look at it like camping in the back country, pack out what you pack in. So it goes in the house when you're done for the day.
Also easier if it can be in a smallish back pack.
Love the Maxim Defense stuff and the SCW brace, buffer and short bolt combo is my fav at the moment, with a 6" 300 blk and a light. Also ear pro in my pack.
PSA is a good option for what you get out of it for the price. I would use DD300blk for home defence. thanks for a fun video.
I have rescued many cardboard humans in distress myself. 👍
The cardboard cutout community thanks you for your service.
@@grafyghtgaming8733 - Thanks. They are a quiet crowd and rarely show appreciation. But I'm not doing it for praise. I leave the scene knowing that I have made a positive difference.

Daddy Garand has shot it out w Ron Jeremy himself on several occasions. Won every bout.
The FK BRNO PSD 7.5 with a red dot, light and stabilizing braze (folding stock)
That gun is a BEAST
Extar EP-9. A sub-$500 option that’s accurate, reliable, and fun.
I like their business model. And the 45acp version. Just wish they made an 8 inch barrel 😊
Definitely looking into that one.

@stormlakebobcat9058 Honest Outlaw is where I saw it. He's my go-to reviewer 👍🏻
For me when I do the 300blk, I like to use folding sights only, just to slim the profile down more. Spring loaded magpul sights only take a split second to pop up.
Truck gun is a fun idea but the risk of it getting jacked is high. Thief: Hey that guy with the camo hat definitely left a gun in his lifted F150 with the Trump Vance bumper sticker and american flag decals.
Just carry your EDC and have extra mags in the truck. That's what I do and you are covered.
True ! I keep a keltec sub 2000 in trunk in spare tire compartment.
I agree 100% - came to this same conclusion years ago
I don’t have bumper stickers or any thing like that for that very reason . I don’t randomly dress in camo either . I subscribe to kinda the “gray man “ approach. I DONT want to be noticed or profiled . Either in day to day or SHTF

Nothing wrong with being a grey man but the goal is to be as discreet as possible and blend in with your surroundings day to day. Most grey men stick out like sore thumbs and can be spotted a mile away
Put a Bernie & COEXIST bumper stickers on the truck. Gotta be there n disguise
I've considered all kinds of secure storage from a James Bond/Batman type push button gun servo, to old fashioned bulky gun safes. Modern vehicles just don't offer much extra space like my old El Camino did - behind the back seat directly under the bed. Carving up my truck tailgate for gun storage is somewhat possible or in the tail light assembly
, but both requires me getting out of the vehicle. What I really need is the blackhawk system that swivels when I turn my head. I'll have to figure out how to mount it to my roof with a stealth cover that opens but I'm sure that can be done as well. You'll have to do another video telling us where to stick em... when not in use.
Ruger 10/22 with a 40 year old folding stock, 16" bull barrel, and 6x 25 round mags.
I bet it gets a lot more use then the guns mentioned in the video
@donh1572 Anything "in season" that is smaller than a moose.
One of the most underrated comments.
👍🏻
I agree with the PSA as a truck gun because of the lower cost of buying it, and it's a good solid AR pistol. The only way I would probably go with the Flux is if it could be purchased in 10mm.
Helpful tip I’ve never heard in a video if you live in northern or cold areas make sure you either rock iron sights or see how your optic reacts going from warm to extreme cold or cold to warm.
he lives in georgia
I live in NH. I rock iron sites for this reason 😅
@ I know but the people he’s talking to are from all over
Go with the cheap option. Lesson learned from the boat incident.
Both guys you mentioned were prosecuted in joke states. Don't live in a joke state.
Completely agree it’s just a game of numbers
Good to see another great video! MERRY CHRISTMAS! JOHN
Us gun guys are funny. We're like a mechanic who buys every tool for every fix but nothing ever breaks.
When you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.
Agreed. Here's another cliche. Beware of the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.
👊
The chance of a truck gun getting stolen is much higher then the chance for needing one for a bad situation.
Chose one you can live without
So, I should be under-guned based on your supposed statistics? Your statistics likely only reflect cases where guns were used/fired to resolve a situation. I can attest to the fact that a Remington 870 is one hell of a deterrent. I worked a rural caseload of parolees and nobody ever challanged or even looked at me sideways when I was holding my 870. Just sayin.

As a cop, John is one of the dudes that if he showed up with a rifle I’d be like “right after you buddy” and then follow him into battle. I can recognize when I’m outclassed
Right, as a 23 old deputy I can see it also lol.
Sig MCX .300 black out at subsonic. Great video Joh.
Suppressed 7” 9mm braced pistol and 147g HSTs. If I need to go further than that, I’m just gonna do a 180 and GTHO
About 4 years ago you did a EDC truck setup. Id love to see an updated version, all the little things you bring with you every day.
Why no 12 gauges? Or more specifically can you do a video showing shorty's and non AR platform? For max distance of 100-200 yards
...and enhanced penetration factoring.
My truck gun is PSA 10.3 AR 5.56 pistol w/ PA 1x prism. Cheap in case of being stolen or having to be entered as evidence.
I have a trunk gun. It goes with me everywhere. irritates my wife. Comes in with me. Goes out with me. And it is a PSA.
Hey now, I have two Priuses and to make up for it, I have a Tundra as well. And I do like the little River Band. Although no CDs stored in my vehicles. 😁
The beard is back!
I live in an OPEN area and my truck gun is a Desert Tech 16 inch barreled .308 Bullpup.
870, 26" rifle sight barrel, and magnum slugs... got four other types of ammo for it too.
My current 'go to' is a reliable M&P Sport 2. But, I bought it fully intending to make it my 'ranch truck gun' once I upgrade to my Daniel Defense.
John's right about the light hanging up on stuff... Guess I'll deal with that when the time comes
I think the odds of needing a truck gun are pretty darn slim, however, getting it stolen is way more likely. Vehicle break-ins are a problem everywhere, even " safe" neighborhoods. I would love to have one in my vehicle though!
Totally agree it’s just a game of numbers
That’s where bullet proof glass and autonomous drone surveillance comes in. Like getting robotic legs, they’re expensive but worth it.😊
AR-V with a Ballistic Advantage 5.5” enhanced feed cone barrel, 9.3” YHM handguard and a tucked CAT MOB. With the 30 round CZ Scorpion mags. It’s my go-to for portability.
Awesome videos, I like John’s choice of gun still effective and balanced but maybe add a folding stock
Good plan.
10.5 5.56 law tactical folder, supressed, 3 mags holosun rds 3x magnifier.....all in backpack that goes everywhere i go! And my edc with me too!!
