I really cannot thank you enough for this extremely informative video! You saved me from what would have been a very bad day when I got my new 80-200 f/2.8 D in the mail. I was super excited to try it and I was greeted by those three terrible letters fEE. For anyone doing this repair, give it a try cleaning the ceramic F-FO plate before buying a new one. Mine was covered in some kind of weird gunk. I used several cue tips to clean the plate as well as the little feeler pins on the aperture ring. They were filthy with something. I think the owner of this camera before me must have spilled something on it. I will probably end up ordering a new plate for when my original one inevitably goes bad, but your video got my camera going again for now! Thank you so much!!!!
Thank you so much for this video. I had the f/EE error on my D7100. I looked all over for the F-FO plate for the D7100 but couldnt find it, and decided to order the D7000's plate and hope to get lucky with the fit. Electronically it was the same as the broken factory F-FO plate from the the D7100, but the shape was different. I ended up scoring the ceramic with my girlfriend's diamond earings and snapping off the corner of the new F-FO plate (was very nervous during this part). Melted away a plastic pin in the body and put everything back together and IT WORKED! Thank you again for this video.
+Stephanie Delgado Unfortunately no... I had to solder it; otherwise the wires would just be loose. I suppose you could tape them down, but that wouldn't be a very reliable connection. Don't be intimidated by soldering, I first tried it when I was 7 years old and it worked. There are plenty of youtube videos that can teach you how. Oh by the way the D7000 F-FO plate worked for my D7100, but I had to score and snap off the tiny corner of the plate.
The coupling ring on my D7000 had collected enough grit that it no longer returned under spring tension. These instructions enabled me to to get that cleaned up... Thank you!
I needed to get spring tension back on my F-feeler ring on my D7100 and this worked like a charm even though the video is for the D7000. Saved me a factory repair! Much mahalo! :)
Thank you so much. i looked everywhere to figure this out. This is the first place i found what i needed to know to fix my camera. This is after i spent 100 dollars having it repaired!
Looks like I also get to do this. Just bought a D7000 with 35/1.8 lens for 175 euros, so not too bad in total. The part was 7.63 € on AliExpress incl. shipping.
Before removing the F-plate screws, the tension on the coil spring should be unwound. Turn the black plastic phillips screw clockwise until you can feel that the spring is unwound. You'll need to turn it ccw when you're done replacing the ceramic plate. Your instructions are great, except this minor issue. Hope this helps...
Wow, you have amazing skills! I fixed my FEE error by moving the Aperture ring to infinity. I have a question. Is it possible to upgrade the sensor on the D7000 series or a D300S (crop sensor) to a full frame sensor from the D4S, D750 or D780 so it will have less noise at high ISO?
Guys when you do this, make sure you wear safety glasses, when removing the ceramic part, theres a risk of it breaking and flying into your eyes, and since its brittle, it will snap off with sharp edges.
I have the same issue on two of my cameras, but both having this issue intermittently and only with a certain lens. My D700 having this issue with my 50mm AF and my F100 with the 85mm AF. Both cameras work without any problems with other lenses, even with manual lenses.
I have an issue with the camera not stopping down the iris of any lens. If you take any shot that is not wide open, it gets taken, but the lens stays wide open and thus over exposed and an error appears on the display. In aperture priority it is obvious that only wide open gets corrects exposure and no error message. Nikon changes aperture of lenses with a lever. So I guess that lever is not moving somehow.
Very good tutorial. i will try to fix my d7000 wich is not focusing in distant objects (tested with 3 lenses). This happenned after I drop it. hope this will fix it. Can you share the aliexpress link to this part? Thank you again for the excelent video.
You don't have to remove the bottom plate of the camera. Remove the battery first though. Just start with removing the front bezel (5 screws) to perform the same operation. Again, removing the bottom of the camera can be skipped to save you time.
A word of caution... the front cover has two tabs that engage with pins that are part of the bottom cover. The tabs can be easily broken if not disengaged from the pins when removing the front cover. Partially removing the bottom cover is sufficient to clear the pins from the front cover tabs.
Great video. I just performed the replacement but when reassembling I seem to be running into an issue where the meter coupling lever, the fstop ring, is binding... not free moving... any ideas?
Great video!! I have a question if you can help me. I would like to replace the plate you took off (L-Shape) because mine is a little beat up. Do they sell this?
Do you fancy a job, my D800 is showing EFF. If i apply pressur anticlockwise by rotating lens message goes off ? I thought error was the aperature ring not being on F22 a couple of times, but after watching this maybe the weight of the camera hanging off the lens has damaged the ceramic plate ? I'me in Essex, regards John.
I dropped my NIKON D500. Looks like the bottom of the lens took the impact, there is no visible damage (not even a scratch in the paint) on the body. BUT, now the view through the viewfinder is totally blurry. Camera focuses fine and shots are in focus when using live-view or viewing the photo on the LCD panel. Everything else seems to work as usual, I just can't see any of the details inside the viewfinder or view the frame in focus before taking the shot. I tried adjusting the diopter but it seems like it doesn't do anything, no change to blurrines/focus through the viewfinder when I adjust the slider. Any ideas what may be wrong? I will most likely take it to service but thought I'd ask here as well in case anyone has had a similar issue/fix.
Hi, I've bought a used one, but I have some problem with ai/ais lens. The problem is a "sticky" aperture F ring, the plastic black one.. when you rotate the aperture ring on old lens the plastic part on the body follow the movement to read aperture manually, but it seems to be sticky, sometimes it take 30 sec to return in position, sometimes is super quick and move immediatly, if you remove lens and move it lightly it works totally fine.. how can I solve it? Maybe something went underneath and I have to clean? Not an electronic problem, it reads non cpu data, and aperture according to position, but it's too slow when you change a lot aperture.
hello sir. good day. i have the same problem but didn't try yet to open my camera. my d7000 just been splashed by water in pool. then the fEE error starts. is my base plate broken or just need to clean it up. thanks and God Bless...
Dear friend. I have the eFF problem with my D7000, but just with one of my lens (Nikkor 300 AF-S F4 ED). Other lens are working fine in my d7000. in otherwise my Nikkor 300 AF-S F4 ED is working good in my D90, and other cans!! Could you help me?
Hi. This will happen only with the old lens that transmit the f info trough a lever. All the new lens do it via electronics. That's why all new lenses work.
+Adriano Maciel Hi. Do you have any other lens with manual f ring for testing in your D7000 body? Also you can check if the f sensing lever at the top of the lens mount moves smoothly.
Juan Gomez I am using normally all of my other lenses (manual or automatic, 50 mm, 18-105, 200 mm, 105 mm macro). All of those lens are doing perfectly in my d7000. Only my 300mm is not working with my d7000. But in my other cameras it is fine, like in my D90...
+Adriano Maciel I have this same problem only with my sigma 70-300mm it used to work fine and one day I got the f0 error. I tried the lens in other camera and worked fine, and other lenses in my camera work fine...
Check that the lens F tab is dragging the camera sensor properly. Also check that your lens F is fully closed. Was the ceramic part broken when you replaced it?

I followed the instructions and was able to get my D7000 fixed (although I didn't need to remove the bottom). Thanks so much for the video!

Thanks to this video!! I didn't have this issue but i needed to replace the front cover!
This video is awesome! Thanks for spending the time to show how to fix the problem
Thanks for your comment. I decided to make it when I found no instructions about this issue. Glad I'm helping others.
1000 times Thank you! YOU are my big hero.

Anixihartz Yes, you are right. In my case was the first time ever and the spring just unwound itself.
Enhorabuena por el tutorial. Si tuvieses alguno sobre como arreglar una Sony DSC-L1 con problemas de enfoque, sería ya miel sobre hojuelas.
Thank you so much - its amazing . Im even didnt dream that coud fix it.

10/10 just checked the plate on my 7100 and its broken
Thank you thank you thank you
What if we don’t have that welding tool? Will this still work??
Is the spacer necessary?

Can I try to spray inside it something? Like wd40. Same thing for the power switch a bit harder or sticky so switch easily, thanks..

Does this fix the triangle f0 message?
I can't find how to replace hotshoe on a D800 - can you help? Thanks.
This just happened to me on my D750 sent it to Nikon . I wonder how much there going to charge

Hi I changed the same part but i keep getting the error.... :( what can i do
With every lens? Is your lens tab OK?
Juan Gomez only with AF-D type lenses. G type work fine. Checked the contacts and cleaned them. I dont know what else to do... Dont have warranty
Check that the lens F tab is dragging the camera sensor properly. Also check that your lens F is fully closed. Was the ceramic part broken when you replaced it?
Juan Gomez yes it was cracked .. so i bought a replacement and installed it.
Angel Cuadrado check your soldering joints... they are usually the case... it might be a cold solder or just wasnt connect...
!!!
