How long before Kevin Spacey is allowed to be uncancelled? Seriously, writes Allison Pearson. It has been almost seven years since Spacey had the leper’s bell hung around his neck. Is it to be a life sentence or are the millions who relish this great actor’s performances to be allowed to see him back where he belongs, on stage and screen?

Kudos to the interviewer , who asked ALL of the tough questions , she didn’t skip a beat , but she also was compassionate without coddling him or making it a fluff interview . Well done .

I watched the documentary last week only because he has been one of my favorite actors. I’m reading all the comments of love and support and the fact that this was a really good interview. She did it exactly the way it should be done.
But I’m still having a hard time accepting that these men that seemed so vulnerable and so authentic and real and had the same sense of shame and embarrassment I’ve seen with women that have been through the same experiences that I’ve never seen before with men. I know they are raised not to cry or not to be emotional and I thought they were being very vulnerable and real. I love Kevin but I’m sorry I do believe the men in that documentary. I know I’m probably the only one that’s going to say this but I did not feel that they were lying. What would be the agenda of going up into the public forum and share their experiences?

I admit that I readily believed some of the bad stories and I also have realized that in the modern age people (of all sorts) get triggered and some people will act inappropriate. I do appreciate the fact that Spacey is here answering difficult questions. This is so unusual for celebrities.

Don't know if Kevin Spacey is guilty or not to all these things BUT he does have a point that people were extremely quickly to judge. Everything happened so fast without much evidence, thought or anything else. If guilty.. Put him away. "Cancel Culture" is not the right way.
I’ve always thought he’d be back, but superstardom would never be his again. He’ll easily find work, but that work will probably be regional theatre or microbudget Eurasian productions that get buried on VOD.

Yes. It's mostly about money, though, no noble intentions. Corporations are afraid to lose money so they fire people and reshoot scenes in movies. They would even put a finished film on ice just because Spacey acted in it. That means the work of thousands of crew members was for nothing. I hope that the Gore Vidal biopic will be finally released.

Excellent interview by Allison Pearson. She asked very tough questions, not skirting around the issues. Kevin Spacey seemed to be very open and honest. I appreciate the fact that he wasn't evasive even on the most difficult questions. A good lesson in not judging someone until all the facts are on the table.

Ms Pearson said at one time that nothing that Spacey was accused of was a crime in law. Since when has masturbating in a cinema, a public place, not been a crime? Are US citizens allowed to do that?

Kevin Spacey is one of the very rare actors who are absolutely amazing on stage as well as in movies. One of the greatest talents! I had the pleasure to see him on stage at the Old vic in London. Unforgettable!!

How is it that in “Hollyweird” this great actor not be able or “allowed” to move forward, even when acquitted? Really?! Guilty or not, Hollywood is full of individuals who have done the same and even worse than Spacey. Highly hypocritical of this industry to turn his back on him. I personally hope he gets back to what he does best: great acting in great roles. My fav movie of all time is American Beauty, where I 1st saw him fully. Then in HOCards..incredible. Everyone I know thinks he's one of the most lifted actors of our lifetime and it's an absolute tragedy to lose him in the cinematic universe. I was literally just talking to someone about American Beauty on a dog walk the other day. He was found innocent, time to treat him as such and let him go back to work.

There are LOTS of examples of predatory behavior though- behavior that KS admits to but dismisses as being 'flirty.' Talented, but so what? What about the people who are anxious to be around him on set for fear he'll grope or grind on them. What about them?
Well that’s why he’s expressing to the audience that he’s been working to become a better person and not do things like that anymore and he’s reached out to those he’s hurt and made uncomfortable. He’s apologized to people and has worked to become a better human being now that he sees the damage he’s caused some people the last 7 years. People do not fabricate the scenarios revealed. They are humiliating and painful.

The type of probing investigation that goes into the accuser's life is such that victims often drop the action because they cannot bear the intrusion. Victims often find that they feel that they are on trial, and given the low success rate of prosecuting SA successfully, they find that they have been re-traumatised by being questioned (usually in a hostile manner) over events that are really upsetting to recall.

Thoughtful, meaningful interview. Interviewer was compassionate but straightforward and skilled. Kevin was open, sincere and likable. Of course, I've always like him. He's a brilliant actor. But he's also a kind, gentle and funny man. I hope to see him doing what he loves and does better than most - acting. He is a prime example of a flawed human (aren't we all!) who more than deserves a bright new future.
Good luck to him. I've been so angry at not being able to see him onscreen or stage for years. He's an absolute genius actor.

I met Kevin once - at a SNL party after he had hosted the show. I was a fan, not an industry person at the time, and he patiently answered all my questions. He was a lovely guy, and I appreciated the time he gave me (right) in the middle of a storming party. Life is complicated.

I’m so heartbroken to hear Kevin speak his truth but at the same time so proud of him in telling it so authentically and organically. He was really given the shaft by everyone. I’ve always loved him as the most incredible actor of his generation. This just adds another layer of greatness and I pray he finds the love of his life and lives in peace and harmony. The career would be the icing on his cake. He’s grateful and worked really hard on himself. That is priceless. Only good can come out of this. God bless 🙏

unfortunately, it may be true that the source of majority of talents is... abuse.
Just because a jury found him innocent, doesn't mean he didn't do anything wrong. It just means there was reasonable doubt. That is what lawyers do, create reasonable doubt. MANY men have come forward. They can't all be making false claims. There is too much smoke for there to be no fire. This interview just doesn't feel genuine. He's an Oscar winning actor after all which doesn't help his case in giving testimony that is believable. He could easily be putting on a performance to try and convince people he was the one who was wronged.

The downside to being one of the World's Best Actors is that we will never be able to know whether Kevin Spacey is being genuine or not. But he was acquitted on all charges. I’m so glad I found this interview with Mr. Spacey after watching the MAX broadcast a few nites ago. I feel better about how Kevin is responding to these accusations and look forward to his return to acting as he has always been a favorite. I’ve always liked Kevin. A great actor. And I believe he’s learned from his mistakes and should be allowed to work again. I also believe at least some of what his accusers have said as well. I think his was an extreme case of hubris and ego. But, again, I feel he’s learned and should be allowed to show his redemption. Nobody should be cancelled forever if they’ve learned their lessons. It’s just humane.

I’ve always loved Kevin Spacey & enjoy watching everything he is in. I miss his amazing talent. Why would so many people come forward to lie? I think Kevin is in denial and even more so because he was found innocent of the charges against him.
The likelihood of women lying about SA is less than 1%. It’s a lot less for men coming forward with allegations too.
I can’t blame him for thinking he can act his way of this but I think he’s bitten off a bit more than he can chew here.

Kevin Spacey is one of my favorite actors. I really want him to come back to acting and feel he should be allowed to return. This was a great interview, and it's good to hear him discuss his life and his progress after all is this. But he shouldn't have because people got on a bandwagon and threw him to the wolves. I really hope he has a come back. He worked hard his entire life and deserves it. Scandals in Hollywood have been around forever. It seems that only certain celebrities get targeted while others skate by.
Kevin spacey seems like a much much better and more genuine person that the media has portrayed.

This was a good interview. We all can learn and change from our mistakes. Kevin Spacey sounds sincere hurt, redemptive, and hopeful for the future. I'm praying for him. Seems like he's come over a few mountains like all of us in someway shape, form, or fashion.
He is one of the best actors I know. House of cards was a masterpiece with him. It’s a shame that they ruined his life because of things he later found not guilty of.
I grew so much watching Kevin’s performances and wish to see him very soon in new projects and enjoying his life . Difficult times always cause growth when they befall the right person , and Kevin Spacey surely became the actor he is and moved us all with his performances never by coincidence . I really wish Kevin Spacey all the happiness and fulfillment he has given to us all .
He played the role of a remorseful predator excellently. How can he say he engaged in bad behavior and at the same time claim his innocence in those harassment cases? How can it be that 20+ men who don’t know each other report that Kevin violated them? Like I said, he’s an excellent actor.
I worked with this guy onset. Let's just say he's an actor at all times: fake and deeply troubled with 'MANY' demons.

She had great questions… I have my own questions about his character, but he’s a great actor and hope he’s working out any lingering issues...sounds like this is so. I do wonder how much ‘revising’ some of his personality traits in real life would have on his future acting output though.

Comparing Johnny Depp's case to Kevin Spacey's is comparing apples & oranges. One case involves two people, both of whom contributed to a very bad marriage. Kevin Spacey is accused of assaulting people. That is entirely different. Just sayin........

Actually, Depp was accused of being a wife beater, if that's not an assault... And he lost his trials on both side of Atlantic. He really lost both trials, doesn't matter that Amber lost "even more" in the American one. I don't get this "Depp is more acceptable". The bandwagon of Spacey crashed, even the insurance case officially destroys all the HoC accusers, they missed the moment when the "bosses" needed another narrative and will pay for that IMO. The docu is already laughed out, the body language "nails it", I guess. The makers are in a totally different league now. No lawsuits, but no awards either, hardly any serious project in the future. The poor "mental" guy in the UK with his "hacked" mobile phone will land in jail most likely. For perjury. Spacey won't do a Marvel movie, but he wouldn't do it anyway. The question is if he has a clinical depression or not, because that will prevent him from work.

This was an amazing interview. Kevin Spacey has been one of my favourite actors for years. I read a book I absolutely loved call “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil “ and when I found out there was a movie I was excited to find Kevin Spacey was the main character. Highly recommend. I hope that the powers that be can put the past in the past and take the fact he was found innocent and let him come back to do what he is so amazing at.
This is the first time I have had an opportunity to see Allison Pearson conduct an interview and I loved it. Very compassionate and real.
I believe this man needs to get back to a job he was so good at. Hollywood is a cruel, a very cruel place.

He's having his Earwicker moment. Contrite and remorseful, damaged and broken, but defiantly hopeful in spite of all. Uncommonly moving.
Have watched this several times now. He's not acting the nervousness and the jumpiness and the misery over the mother. Does he have something shameful to hide or elide? Undoubtedly, but it seems to be a sad consequence of the closet in which he was so long encased, outwardly translated into clumsy grabs and ever uglier fumbles and mistranslated tumbles. I feel very profoundly sorry for him. Hope springs eternal for his future, we hope.
I hate to see anyone wrongfully accused. And I don’t know what happened with Kevin Spacey and his situation. But It does seem like he has taken accountability and responsibility for his “bad behavior” and is working on himself to be a better person. He was awesome as Frank Underwood in the “House of Cards” I ❤ that show when he was in it. I hope he gets more acting opportunities… he is a great actor….. This was a really great interview. I really loved that Kevin said really nice things about Johnny Depp.😊. That was cool.

I am such an admirer of Kevin. I honestly do not care what anyone thinks about him or how I feel about him. I find him to be incredibly human with one of the most remarkable talents for acting. I respect him and the way he has handled this incredible ordeal. I hope and choose to believe that his transgressions are the acts of a human, not a monster and it seems the data supports my view. I feel the public has been robbed of years of contributions from an incredible talent, and I would like to seem him return to the big screen again...or at least know he is doing what makes him happy.
This was a great interview. Kevin Spacey should be allowed a path back to acting. He has been aquitted on all charges in the US and the UK. It's time for everybody to show some forgiveness for what may or may not have happened and let the man do what he does best. I welcome his return.
