I like the zip tie idea. I 3D printed a throttle button to bolt on top, but I've already broke one and it's a pain in the butt, to pull the handle grip off.
I did this on my XP 3 thx to your vid, it's such a great little hack! I find that throttle on this thing really lacks finesse when twisting it, whereas a thumb throttle very much helps that. I used a very thick zip tie, leaving some of the "tail" sticking out...gives more "real estate" for the thumb to rest on it.
Awesome hack. Would it be unwise to bring the zip tie a little more center so your thumb doesn’t have to stretch quite as far or does it need to be against the brace right there?
When I first got my bike, I tried pushing that notch next to it, thinking it was a throttle. Now, I got an good inexpensive push throttle. Thank you. This is the fastest upgrade by far.
you just saved me so much brother.. refuse to pay $20 for a clamp on.. don't like the thumb throttle options with battery voltage display .. want my lcd display so cut most of the throttle off and using real grips.. used zip tie just now and its great thanks so much
With a small flat screwdriver (like for eyeglass hinge screws) you can pry up the locking tab and release the ziptie. Or, you can also buy reusable zipties with extended tabs that you can release with a thumbnail.
Total genius!! I had a small cable tie and tried that, but I felt it was too small. Went to the hardware store and got 10 large ties for $6.99! Yeah, I live in NYC and everything is a rip-off, but at $0.70 each, it's still a bargain. Slapped that bad boy on, and now I'm "stylin'" like the cool kids. Thanks, Chris
At first I was a little skeptical of the idea of a zip tie but o know I'm not paying upwards of $30 for a Pedego thumb throttle but this looks like a good idea for pennies on the dollar.
Ha Chris. Got the cable ties at Harbor freight 10 for $1.99 so mine only $.19. Great tip works much easier on low end for cruise control . It was hard to set for 8 to 9mph PO1 / second gear . Always great info that works. Thanks again
AWSOME idea, also you could melt the end of the zip tie that was cut, and you can get a small rubber vacuum hose plug to go over the end of it, or a piece of heat shrink so the corners of the zip tie end wont dig into your hand. 😁👍⭐
Hey Chris! What a great and simple idea.. I’m not comfortable with the twist throttle and I purchased a thumb throttle from a guy who used a 3D printer that clips onto the throttle with a c type clip and supposedly uses little teeth to grip the rubber twist throttle..also seemed like a good idea, but No. Like your idea much better and cheaper. Thanks for sharing Tc from Nevada
If you've already checked the connection cable, then make sure your hidden display setting (P10) is set to "2". Turn on display, press and hold + & -, then tap menu til you get to screen "P10", then use + or - so that it says "2". If it still doesn't work, you may need a new throttle
@@PedalWithPower I trouble shot things it has power when peddlein it kills the power when breaks are applied like it should the walk assist works . And I don't have any kind of reader to check throttle power. But I will go try the settings again. Thanks so much
This didn't work for me because my thumb got sore quicker than my palm did . The best deal is to wear gloves that have padded palms and maybe even padded fingers.

Oh boy. I was looking for the vid with the $15 dollar one and accidently found this instead. Think I'll go buy a lottery ticket! Thanks buddy !!
Bless you my wrist feels broken and I was wondering why, repetitive motion
WOW, what a great idea, thanks! It makes a universal throttle: thumb and twist!!!

I did the exact same thing Marcus. It looks like it should be a thumb throttle 👍
Great idea for the thumb throttle. I only hoped that you posted it before I brought one.
Thanks Edward. Hopefully yours works out too 👍
Another great idea and illustrative video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!

Genius! Thanks for posting.
Thanks Bob, much appreciated! 👍
thousands of uses for good old zip ties. awesome tip Chris. thanks for sharing
Thanks a bunch! I always appreciate your comments🙏. Zip Ties are awesome! 👍
That's a useful hack that I might try. I actually like a thumb throttle way more than a twist throttle.
Thanks, it actually functions really well.
Great idea!
Thanks Nolan, glad you liked it👍
Great idea I need that 👍 I was going to order the 3D printed one
Thanks Ripy! Now you can try it out first to see how you like it.
Not printing a 3D zip tid I hope !😂
cool idea!
Thanks Craig! It's a really easy way to see add a thumb throttle if needed 👍
Speaking of thumb shifters, is it possible to switch the shifter from right to left and if so what type of trigger shifter would you recommend?
What a cool idea , I love ur videos I'm learning so much keep this up thank u
Thanks Cory! I have some more cool stuff in the works. 👍
@@PedalWithPower looking forward to it
Great tip Chris. I hate the twist throttle.
Now you can make it a thumby 👍
now how hard would it be to remove it? I imagine it's so tight, it'll be near impossible to pull out, or to get scissors under it to cut

good tip

Cool trick. So easy if they had designed the rubber grip with a notch then we would have a combined thumb and twist throttle.
Thanks Tanah! Your notch idea would have been cool.

I was just talking about wishing I had a thumb throttle. Awesome little hack. Thank you.
No problem, it's very simple to do. Thanks 👍

a nail clipper does a better job than a file. 🙂
WOW
Thumbs up 👍 👍 👍 👍 😎👍👍👍👍 and a subscription 🎉🎉
But the twist throttle is still there and in the way.
What???
Hold on now. Why would we use an inexpensive household item when we can pay $19 for a comparable item on Amazon?
I know right. And the one I used in the video was re-used from a tire bundle!
my throttle won't even work 😢

It's not for everyone. I also prefer the twist throttle. Just giving out ideas!
