    Have been finding your videos very motivating and your enthusiasm and love of running has inspired me to get back into it! Although my relationship to running is completely different, as a goal oriented person, I enjoy seeing your videos that cover the different goals you have set, and your progression to them. The progression, and ups and downs along the way are interesting, despite the final outcome. Also, just seeing what is possible as a runner and what it takes to get there is very inspiring.
    In case anyone reading this is also inspired to run but feels like they can't, here's my running story in case it helps:
    Age 0-24, never athletic, couldn't run any significant distance (< 1 minute), and was told I had exercised induced asthma. Assumed I would never be able to run.
    Age 25 - Pushed myself to try running for the first time because I wanted to build my cardio so I could hike all the amazing mountains nearby. After 33 days of running every second day, I went from not being able to run more than 500m without stopping and panting (and then run/walking the remainder of a 5k route), to being able to run the whole 5k without stopping. The asthma symptoms actually went away completely as I got more fit too. It was amazing. I graphed the distance I could go each run before stopping for my first walk break, so that I could actually see my progression. I also made sure to push myself a little further before the first walk break on each run, even though it was very hard some days.
    Age 26 - Set a goal to run 5k on a treadmill with no incline, in ~25 minutes (7.7 mph). After a couple months months of running 3x5k per week and increasing my run speed by .1 mph each run (starting at 6.3 mph), I did it. This speed felt so so hard. It felt impossible to ever run any faster than this but in hindsight, I was probably expecting progress too fast.
    I didn't run consistently or have any running goals after age 26 but having the ability to run really changed and improved my life in so many ways. I was later diagnosed with a condition called POTS, which has complicated my ability to exercise for the past few years but I'm back to hiking and now excited to try to get back to running a 5k!
    Thanks for the inspiration!

    • @mariwalsh495
      @mariwalsh495 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have POTS too! It also has complicated my ability to exercise a ton--while I'm still fortunate to be able to run cross country at my school, it definitely affects my training a TON. However, I've learned what works and doesn't work for my body, and when to take off or easy which has helped. Good luck with running, manifesting that 5k for you :)

Im happy to hear you are feeling much better im sure the enderance training helped move the sickness along I work in nursing and notice that if patients can get a good sweat on it gets rid of a lot of toxins by sweating it out. • @laurena9647

    I appreciate the LT on the bike. Is the long term goal to have all that running or do you/your coach think it’s basically just as applicable from the bike? Given your training physiology/energy systems and not a “race pace”. I ask because I’ve done something similar with biking, swimming, and steep uphill hiking while pregnant and for my baby’s first year as my body can’t handle too much running.

    • @allie_ostrander
      @allie_ostrander  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that ideally, it would be all running, but I also realize that that isn't realistic. The training adaptations from running at LT are twofold: lactate threshold adaptation and neuromuscular adaptation (which basically means that your body gets more used to the motion and muscular activation pattern of running). So when doing that work on the bike, the neuromuscular adaptation isn't there. That's why it's important to have some running workouts, and why it's ideal to have all of them be running!

    Not too many running peeps make better vids than you and Spence -- amusing and informative. In the race between you and Spence, he was leading last year because his vids had a lot of ongoing drama as he tried to break 3:37 in the 1500. But right now you're edging him out with the technical info, which you provide in a few different ways -- eg - the bands on the shoes for traction, strength stuff, the LT zones, etc. I don't really like the LT stuff but that's beside the point. I feel like I'm learning something, and you are also entertaining. I do notice a difference, as you mentioned on IG, a change in your vibe over the last year as you kicked your ED to the curb.

    • @allie_ostrander
      @allie_ostrander  ปีที่แล้ว

      that's a great question, and it's one of the reasons that my training has changed in the last few months. I realized that being self-coached was detrimental to my recovery because it gave me too much control over my volume of exercise. I started working with a coach to make sure that all of my training was truly purposeful, not just exercise to satisfy my desire to move. So a huge goal of mine has been to not exceed the prescribed training, and think of the fitness adaptations that training causes, not changes in my body. Being able to actually do less than prescribed was huge for me, and something that I never would have done in the past! Maybe it's not perfect, but I see that as huge progress!
