A really good result with the Iris nebula John. It’s something for me to have a go at perhaps in late August when some proper darkness returns at my latitude
Thanks Ian 😊. I am about to give up until August too. I might have a go late July with the Askar FMA135 on the Veil Nebula Complex. I find that I can get away with wide fields of view when the skies are not properly dark.
Happy Friday John - In spite of the short and bright night you did good work here! I loved your fire by the way and that is a neat and cozy thing to have on cold summer nights! Guess you are getting ready for some nice summer hikes on the bright days and nights that you are having! In the north the midnight sun came a week ago, but still snow in the mountains;) All the best, Ant
Hi Ant, hope you had a good weekend. The firepit in the table is great for this time of year, it made sitting outside very pleasant. Next week I am going on a short bikepacking trip and the weather looks good. I just have to figure out how I am going to get everything I need onto my bike 🤣
Enjoyed the video. I've also been trying to capture the Iris Nebula this past week using a DSLR and a refractor, unguided. I have a question though. I'm really struggling with my EQM-35: the periodic error is pretty terrible and I reject about 30% of subs. Have you put in place PEC or done anything else to counter this? Or is your mount just better-machined than mine? Or do you also have a high rejection rate?
I also have a fairly high rejection rate. I attempt to minimise this by using shortish exposure times, max 2 minutes, but often 90 seconds. The very short focal length of the Redcat 51 also helps here. I also have a 70mm refractor, but often limit exposure times with this to 60 seconds. In addition, I try not to pixel peak, otherwise I'd probably reject nearly all my subs. I figure that I'd need to do guiding to make a significant improvement. Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it 😊.
@@thecampingastronomer8554 Thank you. It's helpful and encouraging to know that I'm not alone. I have restricted my subs to 30-45s for the same reasons. I guess I will just have to bite the bullet at some point and go for guiding.
Well done Jon. I’m glad you had an enjoyable couple of days off 👍.
Thank you 😊. It turned out to be a very peaceful evening outside, although I am still trying to get over the lack of sleep that night 🤣
Well done 🙌🏼
Thank you, glad you like it 😊

Your Iris Nebula turned out very nice John! Also: Looking forward seeing your Pelican and North America Nebula. Have a good time & cs.
Thanks Michael, I was pleasantly surprised with the result. I didn't expect to see any brown dust 😊
