@@adwaitagnome Not a big deal tbh. I don't even see them anymore and my phone's screen is IPS (Expect to notice them even less on an AMOLED screen). You can also pinch to zoom in if you don't mind losing a bit of the top and bottom. And you actually get less/no black bars around 21:9 content such as movies, so it's kind of a tie with the black bars on 16:9 content.
But then you get a lot of screen real state in other stuff. Messaging apps, browsers etc. Which is quite useful imo.

I don't mind with the long aspect ratio. However the lack of compact phones nowadays is really what i misses about old phones. Sure, my hands are huge, i could hold an 8" tablet single handedly but i misses the days when i could operate my phone completely by single hand.

Before i even start the video, i was recently trying to buy the phone again because i also used to have this phone and it's probably my most favorite phone that i've used to own.
The big 6" 1440p oled screen, stereo speakers and relatively small (for the time) bezels made this a real fun phone to use, and definitely the best portable experience i've used for content consumption.
The phone's screen size was definitely also an eyecatcher back in the day (i remember people with Samsung note's asking me what phone it was), and it still looks huge compared to modern phones due to the (in my opinion superior) 16:9 aspect ratio.
I regret selling the phone. I had the midnight blue edition with 64GB of internal storage (which seems to be hard to find since most people only seem to sell 32GB versions).

Interesting video on a phone I really wanted back in the day. I've got big hands so wide screens have never been a problem. It would be fascinating, but probably very difficult bordering on impossible, to flash an official Moto ROM from one of their newer phones to this one, mostly so you'd get the Moto Actions (the chop for the flashlight, swipe for split screen, etc). IIRC; the G7 Play was 32bit, you had to buy a G7 Power to get 64 bit, and came with Android 10 so there's at least one reasonably feature modern (gestures and dark mode) official 32 bit Moto ROM.
Is your friend still using this phone? I'm curious what's become of it in the two years since filming this.

I guess we all have our own experiences with this phone but I personally hated my Nexus 6. The one I had was extremely slow (probably because mine defaulted to running on encrypted and the nand is slow). My battery and camera also failed. My battery seized and I had to replace the battery on my own and my camera's OIS was going crazy with the camera jumping up and down for no reason. A few months later the top earpiece/speaker broke too. But that said, the phone was still impressing. That large screen paired with the stereo speakers was a TH-cam binge-watcher's dream. But what amazed me the most was seeing how much hardware they crammed inside when I was replacing the battery. The mother board takes up most of the phones size and the battery is stacked over it and literally bent around the MoBo which is then held down my the mid frame. Still blows my mind.

I would compare this phone to the Honor 8s. I've had both, and they both excel in almost everything. The only major differences is the Nexus has a better camera, and The Honor can handle more In games. Would love to see a video on the Honor 8S!

Could you do a video about upgrading an old laptop like from 2010s and using it in modern day and comparing it to old specs? Many old laptops have socketed cpus so it could be upgraded. Other parts could include ram, ssd, swapping an old keyboard or something like that. I upgraded mine Acer Emachines E732ZG from Pentium P6200 to I5-560m, got and ssd and 8gb of ram and it is perfectly usable for day to day tasks even today

I just got the base one plus 8 and that's not even 1440p...
I honestly am happy with getting a new higher end phone again, I've been getting older ones to play with for awhile and while it's fun I really do love all the features on this, and will use it till I'm due for an upgrade on the contract I got with it.

Here's a good question: how come your car's speedometer reads in mph first, rather than kmh? Especially weird considering the steering wheel in on the right, meaning it is probably not made for the US.

I have just broken the screen on my second Nexus 6. I am sat here, looking for replacement phones in-budget. Although there are other newer phones I could get, the Nexus 6 is as good as all of them in most areas. I could get my third Nexus 6.

It's a pity prices shot up once Google were done with the platform being a showcase/testbed. The 6, 5X and even the 6P were an unbelievably great deals. Being able to use an unrooted Android device without the awful UX changes from the Samsungs of this world was refreshing.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Gonna go try to revive my 5X now.
