The Infamous: The Story Behind A Classic

- Mobb Deep. Definitely should be up there for one of the greatest groups in rap history. I mean you have Prodigy who very much lives up to his name and was regarded as one of the most underrated rappers when he was alive and even in death. Havoc is a very slept-on producer as well and he delivered some solid verses during the group's time. Today I am here talking about what technically is Mobb Deep’s sophomore album but it was really their real first impression to the masses. We’ll get into all of that in a bit but The Infamous is just such a classic album and truly has stood the test of time.

Straight up masterpiece! Sat at the table with Illmatic and Only Built 4 Cuban Link… RIP Prodigy!
Facts!!!!! My opinion is they are the triple headed monster of nyc greatness in hip hop. Those are the 3 greatest albums in my opinion, and NOT because I am from nyc
@@EsauistheCaucasian I believe it's that era 92-96 where every MC wanted to bring their very best to the culture. So many classics!
Word
Don’t forget Ready to Die, & 36 Chambers
I would say it’s neck & neck wit hell on earth
Not only did you lay it out excellently I even thought I was in QB whole video, this was a journey.
“There’s a war going on outside no man’s safe from. You can run but you can’t hide forever…”
I got the tape back in may ‘95. I was moving into my dorm and I had the tape booming. All of sudden, 5 NY cats came to the room banging on the door. I opened and they was like “Yo son! What borough you from?” I was like “borough?” Kinfolk I’m from Norf Gulfport, Ms. Them dudes stepped back and was like “Word!?!” We been best friends since that day. #TheLoo #House5FreestyleComission
I became friends with someone in highschool based on Big L's "The Big Picture" album. Me and some of my friends were getting a ride home one day. The guy driving was bumping Big L's "Ebonics". None of friends had heard it before. I then proceeded to pull out the CD from my backpack. Me and the guy driving remained friends for a number of years before having a recent beef. Always sad to lose long term friends.
What school?
Cool! I'm from Chicago and went to MS State. I just moved from D'Iberville/Ocean Springs a few years ago.

Yo that's was me down here growing in Florida
Thank you for covering Modd Deep. Sincerely. This is an amazing album. Ever single track is a banger.
I watched pretty much every mobb deep interview and footage of mobb deep and this is really accurate. Love from Amsterdam, The Netherlands 🇳🇱
Album will never get old. Also Hell on Earth is just as good if not better but never gets spoken about.
For me it's never changed in almost 30 years: Hell On Earth over The Infamous and It Was Written over Illmatic.
I was just riding to work tonight and that song “QU Hectic “ came on my shuffle and I was like perfect timing because that beat has got to be one of the most chilling grimiest beat I ever heard on a song, especially at night. RIP Prodigy 🙏
Favorite song on the album. That song is so slept on imo
Prodigy is in my top 10 of all time- hell he's in my top 5 from his solo shit alone. It's amazing everytime he pairs up with Alchemist! ARGUE WITH ME!
No need to argue, because his solo albums/him pairing up with Alchemist (my favorite being HNIC 2) is straight classic material. Period.
Temperature’s Rising & Give Up The Goods 🔥🔥 love from Pittsburgh bro bro
As a Ny Representer Mobb Deep /Infamous was the soundtrack of our lives I remember goin to see my pop on his last bid he was being deported
We had infamous on blast on that trip back and fourth in that ride The infamous album is a hip hop master piece can’t pick a fav song & such but could put ya on to what songs to listen to off the back of my head trife life give up the goods drink away the pain those jus sleepers thanks so much for this Fun Fact: There another version of Eye for an Eye ft Ghostface

This album is beautiful and resonates with me . I used to live In Long Island but I would always drive to queens bumping this album, it’s an amazing vibe listening to this album on a late night drive through queens . Qu hectic, temperature rising, survival of the fittest , & shook ones 2 are my favorite tracks

Im from Detroit. The song Hectic is super slept on and legendary. Good work dog. 💥💥💥💥💥
TBH
ILLMATIC made the anticipation
for THE INFAMOUS even crazier.
Nas made it to where NYC wanted anything coming outta QB /Queens cause they had one of the Illest Waves during the 90s.
Mobb Deep's The Infamous album definetley showed n proved!!!
Yuppp n Infamous turned out 2 b betta den Illmatic lol I no its all opinion but dats how I feel
@@daminharris3879 Nah... I ain t say all that. Apples and Oranges. The vibes are different.
@@ThePremierGroupLLC I no u didn't say all dat I did haaaa n it dont matta Infamous was betta received in da streets den Illmatic dats facts dats all
@@daminharris3879 No. Not facts. Opinion.
@@daminharris3879 ILLMATIC is what made QUEENS ring out thru the jails in NY State... Way before The Infamous.
We were outside. We kno.
"Trife Life" will always be my favorite track on the album. It's always something about "It's just another day drowning my troubles in a 40" over a Norman Connors sample that hits all kinds of majestic avenues for me
Always respected how well Mobb Deep could story-tell in their songs. Take it in blood, Bloodshed and War, Party Over, Qu-hectic, Temperature Rising, Up North Trip...Just to name a few.
“Grab my Pelle Pelle cuz I wanna look fly when I die, but it ain’t my turn to say goodbye”
Wish Take it in Blood was on the album
God damn, amazing video brother. You did well to condense so much into 30 minutes, that must have been a hell of a task.
Had to sub of course!
RIP Prodigy
This album basically started three beefs. [The Infamous Prelude] got Prodigy into beef with Keith Murray & Redman, Survival Of The Fittest got Mobb Deep into beef with 2Pac and Trife Life kinda somewhat started Prodigy's beef with Jay-Z as on Jay-Z's song Where I'm From, Prodigy said Jay-Z subliminally threw a shot at him based off a part from Prodigy's verse on Trife Life.
Prodigy said "This n***a Jay-Z is taking little jabs at us on songs. I said if you listen to “cough up a lung where I’m from Marcy son” [Where I’m From] the n***a not only does he have the plastic cup in his hand and he got the football jersey, but the n***a said a line in his rhyme where he said “I’m from a place where you and your mans hung in every verse in ya rhyme. So when I heard that, I was like, “Who is Jay talking about who is talking about hanging in Marcy in they line?” Then I thought about Trife Life in my verse I said “jetted through Marcy ‘cause D’s [detectives] ain’t baggin’ me” because I was out there. I was f**kin’ with my n***as from Marcy. That’s where I be at before all that Jay-Z s**t. Those were n***as I went to school with. So now I ain’t peep it back then when that song came out, but down the line when I’m in the studio talking to Nas around that time I peeped it. I’m like aww he talking about me in that song yo and he bit our shit with the little plastic cups in the hood and if you do the research and history of it, Jay-Z was on some speed boat in the Bahamas Versace type of shit. Then Shook Ones came out, then Jay came with the plastic cups, football jerseys in the projects, taking jabs at us"
Lol we know
I didnt .Thanks
Jay had videos in tha Projects in 94 before in my lifetime video
@CloutCancun
Man, utmost respect to you for taking the time n energy to Not only research the history of
"THIS THING OF OURS"
(my personal name for 80s, 90s, & Early 2000 NYC Hip Hop Culture)
But also sharing with us, this shit We grew up loving. You love this shit like you was an 80s Baby.
I appreciate seeing the fact that someone as young as you understands what these moments meant to true Hip Hop Lovers.
SALUTE 💯
Salute back! Partially what inspires me is before I had TH-cam I would talk music with my friends and they never knew anything about older hip-hop and some even called it trash. Ever since I've started TH-cam some of those friends now watch my videos and see the bigger picture and actually listen to some of those people they once called trash. I don't think my generation would be interested in listening to someone that's older telling the history and would be more intrigued by someone more their age.
I've also had people message me and say that they saw a video I did on an upcoming artist but liked my work so much they just started checking out all my videos and learned about stuff in the '90s and early 2000s. I thank my dad for crafting my music taste ever since I was young because without him I don't know if I would be on this platform right now talking about music
I really don't view Mobb Deep as being underrated. They left their mark in the mainstream and the noncommercial circles. It is a good thing they never signed to Bad Boy, that would have led to the usual BS that happens to Puff's rosters.
They definitely not underrated with gold and platinum albums 😤
I'm about to listen to your analysis of this classic album as I'm walking my route. Even before listening to the whole thing I got to tell you this is much appreciated. Born in Brooklyn but raised out in Long Island this album is definitely in my top 10 favorite hip hop albums of all time. Salute 2 you my Guy! 🙏🏾👊🏾🙌🏾
These are legends this is timeless music timeless album I do not want people to say this album is old I can play this today and act like it just came out today the mobb deep is a legendary group ever came out and this album got me through some dark times but my favorite song there's no skips but my favorite q.u.-hectic I love his verse havoc don't get me wrong I love both of them ain't nothing soft so sweet I'll lift you off your feet
P alone has THE BEST CATALOG when it comes to intros to start songs. Period. Top 3 rap group of ALL TIME.
I saw them perform @ 4th and B in San Diego. Truly a honor R.I.P. Prodigy Big homie. Favorite song "Going Diamond" . Thanks for making this video. 🔥🔥💯😎👍
Rest in peace prodigy one of the best mc's that ever lived.
My favorite tracks are right back at you temperatures rising, Q.U. hectic, give up the goods, and drink away the pain featuring the God tier M.C. Q-tip
Def a classic that will never be overlooked in their discography. They have two more that should discussed which is Hell on Earth & Murda Musik.
You just gave me inspiration to listen to the album all day. Clearly one of the best hip hop albums ever
Temperatures Rising is definitely my favorite on the album.
20 years old from Cape Town,South Africa a huge Mobb Deep fan😍😍😍
I would listen to The Infamous everyday day on my way to the gym, pumps you up. Great album from all the way through.
Big Noyd ‘ s verse on “ Give Up The Goods “ is top 10 ever

I'm from Ireland man, great video. Just finished reading Prodigy's book
Dope affffff! Thanks! That's a album was so dense. Brilliant music
Definitely a Classic as someone else stated. This album especially Shook Ones Part 2 and survival of the fittest woke me up and it changed raps Direction at the time. It definitely influence me to stop just riding and to actually spit my verses out loud. It also was a catalyst for me recording my first song. Big Ups to both of you havoc and Prodigy big noyd and everyone on the album you guys changed my life.
Prodigy is definitely one of the greatest MC. The Infamous is one of the greatest HipHop albums of all time.

My favorite group of all time.
One of my absolute favorite albums ever , Survival Of The Fittest is still home chilling to this very day ! Such a poetic track of the concrete jungle they lived in at the time , Temperatures Rising is also a big highlight for me , shit the whole LP ! Prodigy was top 5 dead or alive on this joint
My top 5 songs from the album are. Give up the goods, eye for an eye, start of your ending, temperature rising, shook one's pt 2. Showing love from Jersey
Yo clout l like your hip hop journalism you really do research IAM fan of the 90's era so when I here things like this it's ill I like the way you break the artist story keep it up I like this Mobb deep one you did bless
icredible man you never miss ,good job my boy
i also wanna add that for Q.U Hectic, there’s another version w/ a different beat and title called “Keepin it Real”. it has a sample of AZ in the hook as well
Definitely one of my top 10 favorite albums right here. I was just listening to this while taking my hour ride to visit my parents' the other day. This is one of the jawns you can listen to straight through without skipping a song. Temperature Rising, SOTF, Up North Trip, Party's Over (tell the rest of the crew!), and Give Up The Goods are my favorites. Brings back some good fckn memories.
Edit: God did his work when Mobb Deep met a young white kid named Alchemist. This shit changed everything (in a good way).
RIP Prodigy
This is solid work. Salut!
Survival of the Fittest’s intro beat and bass line is so legendary I get goosebumps every time I hear it.

I've heard "hell on earth" has quite of a story behind it as well. You never know
@@cloutcancun 5 mic album in my opinion, P and hav were also going at Pac heavy on “drop a gem on em” in response to “hit em up”, they then followed up with murda muzik few years later, their 3 album run is definitely top tier. RIP PRODIGY the HNIC, definitely at least top 8 ever in my book.
@@mugetsu2862 I've actually talked about the original version of Murda Muzik in my "lost/found rap media" series. Have you seen that?

In my thirties and this is one of the best albums I've ever heard and one of my all time favourites. Know most songs word for word, literally the only song I don't like is the one featuring Q-Tip because it sounded so out of place lol.

I used to buy 99 singles in Chicago down the street at Mac's while working at my pop's store. One I got was the original Shook Ones provided a year before the Infamous came out. I always liked their sound and thought Mobb Deep was a cool name. When they came out with their album, my boy had it and I was like 'Mobb Deep!!' because I knew it was going to be special, but little did I know....
