The gentlest and most courteous of people, sharpest of drill and the fiercest of fighters. The British Army and the UK is indeed blessed to have such wonderful people.

Nonsence. You're entitled to your opinion. These individuals come from poverty and are forced to join British Army to obtain food and shelter for their families. Their commanding officers are British who in private regard these individuals as nothing more than a backward race of useful idiots. Sad really.

@@funnymemesworld4398 "Real Gorkhas" just because they've been trained by the Indian Army? Which is the SAME Indian Army that is STILL modelled on British standards and training - because the Indians know they can't better the British? And yet the Indian Army STILL apes the British because in doing so the Indian Army benefits both from the reflected credit from British feats of arms, and gives it a veneer of true military professionalism?
The military reputation of Gurkhas was - and still is - made from being a part of the British Army, under British leadership: the recent Indian Army is just a poor and unknown substitute for quality, as proven by India STILL unable to win its' border war (over 70yrs and counting!!) with Pakistan!! 🙄🤣

@@xxyxnxwxaxx9724 Don't take this the wrong way, but there is a huge difference between things like our, and are, your and you're, there and their. It's basic spelling, and you don't need to be an A* student to get these right. I had a public school education, and during school I was taught the difference between these, probably at primary. Whilst spelling might not be an integral part of your job, if you're writing or e-mailing to customers, then it looks professional having the correct spelling. Again, I'm not saying your spelling has to be Oxford Dictionary level, but there is very little in the way of excuses for poor spelling, in every day words. No one is expecting to you be able to spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. :P
And I'm sure you're right, your carpentry skills would be far better than mine, and no doubt you would take the piss against my skills. But that's because I never learnt it, or wanted to learn it. If I had wanted to learn carpentry, who knows what my skill level might have been (might be better than yours :p ). I also *congratulate* you on having an excellent trade.
Please don't the above personally, it's just friendly advice.

I’ve heard of and watched documentaries on the Ghurkas ever since I was young. The Ghurkas I heard of were insanely brave, and vicious fighters, the kind that would crawl against machine gun fire, jump in the pill box and slash with one those wicked knives they all carry, and single-handedly kill everyone in the machine gun nest, relieving the danger to their regiment.
Although as a tradition of bravery and self sacrifice, which I use lightly, because their bravery seldom resulted in their death because they were great fighters, I always suspected that it was their physique which necessitated the creation of entire Ghurkas regiments, or companies.
Since antiquity, the Ghurkas came from tribes which typically lived in villages of very high elevation. They naturally had larger, more efficient lungs, and their blood could carry more oxygen than a low lander. British soldiers, well, actually all typical soldiers could not fight well at very high elevations. One could leave men up there for months, and although they would acclimate to some extent, it would be nothing like the genetics that Nature had equipped the Ghurkas. I recall a story of a Ghurka soldier carrying a British soldier down a mountain on his back because he’d gotten too weak from the elevation.
I recall this video mentioning that the race up a mountain carrying fifty-five pounds was a relatively new test they had implemented because the gene pool was getting somewhat diluted, which is only natural. Nepal as a nation is progressing like any other country.

I had the great good fortune to work in 'civvies' street with a retired British Army captain who was seconded to 'The Gurkhas'. His admiration for Gurkha soldiers was such that he transferred to the regiment where he remained for more than 20 years. '1chish' comment encapsulates exactly what my colleague felt about them.

There has always been a phrase "The Little Gurkha". But many of the Gurkha soldiers we see in this clip are quite tall, some almost as tall as Prince Charles (who is a tall man himself). It is strange how certain wrong stereotypes sometimes continue to persist.

It is because their fathers & grandfathers were 5”2 - 5”5 mostly only few of them were taller. But nowadays most are 5”5-5”8 only some are taller up to 6 but fierce warriors non the less

I have the greatest respect for our armed forces. There is no greater honour than to serve one's country, I am, therefore, seriously considering a career in the military: It has long been a dream of mine to be in the Army, Navy, AirForce or Marines. However, I am starting to think it may be more demanding than I thought.
I do not like sport of any kind, and have a general disdain for physical activity. I am super morbidly obese, although I do not imagine this would be an issue. I hate conflict, being told what to do and following routines.
I would like to specialise in ceremonial duties exclusively, as long as i could decide my own hours.
I would appreciate any suggestions for a suitable role and look forward to serving with some of you soon.

My uncle was in the RAF and was travelling in a troop ship through the Suze Canal and he told me that locals in small boats came out to the ship to sell things to those on the ship including leather photo albums which turned out not to be made of leather and were rather cheap and shoddily made, the Gurkha Officers angry that they were being ripped off collected fire buckets filled with sand and called the locals in their small boats were called to the side of the ship thinking they were getting more sales were bombed with fire buckets dropped from a great height resulting in some boats capsizing and others crashing in their haste to get away, my uncle said the Gurkha officers were a strange slightly mad lot but not to be messed with.

Respected King Charles of Britain I like to place proposal for the Gurkhas ! Gurkhas should not be used as only a infantrymen just with a small knife legend Khukuri ! No doubt it was just an effective weapon during the two WWs. Today Gurkhas are educated and I don't think they have any communication problem ! I think Gurkhas can do better than any of other countrymen if used beyond these sheer small weapons. I think they can handle missiles and armored fighting vehicles !

During the UN peacekeeping mission in Timor Leste a Gurkha patrol was ambushed by Pro Indonesian Militia. It took the Militia about 5 seconds for them to realise that picking a fight with the Gurkhas was not a good idea and retreated ASAP with their tails between their legs.
