If a Gurkha accepts you as a friend - you have a friend for life no matter what. You become like family - The most friendly and noble people i have ever known.
Seeing the Gurkha knife-work was wonderful. For something choreographed, they didn't stylize very much. It was kind of eerie to see how methodical the drawing (slitting) motions were, and the emphasis on the two-handed downstroke. I'm Filipino, and the main difference I'm seeing on their knife-work vs. our variants of Escrima, Arnis, etc, is the utilization of that forward angle, incorporating the difference in weight dispersal (balance). Again, wonderful! Something else I noticed, rather than raging over cultural appropriation, that Gurkha band utilized possibly the most foreign instrument to them: bagpipes, and it was heartwarming. Personally, I think the only musical instrument the Gurkha need are whetstones, sharpening Kukri as they go. Grandfather, Father, Son. All served, and I'm willing to bet, between the generations, the father simply wasn't placed in a terrible situation, otherwise that man would also have proven his heroic DNA true. For example, based on the age spread, it would've been the Falklands that his father would've been in the window for, and even then, the Argentinians surrendered before the Gurkha got within effective range. Nothing against y'all Argentians, just speculating on Dip Prasad Pun's father.
