Mayan Underworld 🌿: Best Cavern Diving in the world?

- In this short documentary, we’re exploring the secrets of the Mayan Underworld, taking you on an exciting underwater diving adventure through mysterious caverns and cenotes on the lookout for the lost city of Atlantis!
The cenotes are THE natural highlight of the Yucatan Peninsula 💦🌿. There’s a tiny opening in the jungle floor, a steep staircase leading down into the underground. And as soon as your eyes have adapted to the darkness, you won’t believe them 👀.
The cenotes are natural sinkholes formed by collapsed cave ceilings, exposing water underneath. As the only freshwater stock in the area, they’re an important source of life for plants and animals 🐟🐊. And for the Mayans, they were the entrance to the underworld 💀.
The water here is so clear, that you don’t even see that there’s water at all 💦. That’s because it accumulated here after leaking through the jungle floor drop by drop. An experience for every diver’s bucket list 🙃!
And all of this makes them really special and very exciting to explore - above and below the surface.

@@bugsandbears it's an apex predator that is so efficient at killing that it hasn't significantly changed in appearance for millions of years. The ones you encountered just weren't hungry at the time. Sharksz gators andsl crocs attacking divers isn't as rare as one would like to think. the quality here is really fire, I was in Tulum and the Yucatan area for two months and loved every minute especially visiting all the different cenotes

that’s incredible. I can’t believe you were swimming behind an alligator. Diving is definitely living within nature. Something magical that you experience. Cenotes are so impressive.
Cenotes are definitely a spiritual type of underworld. Very mysterious.
We were super lucky being able to be in the water with that crocodile. A moment we'll never forget 💙! Luckily he's more into eating fish than divers 🤗!

Absolutely majestic. I enjoy open water diving but probably will never cave dive so thank you for giving me a glimpse into this hidden world.
There are cenotes for every level of divers, some very open and wide ones with beautiful sun flares coming in. If you're a scuba diver already you don't need an additional certification to go cavern diving with a guide. Give it a try, you'll love it 💙!
i was already surprised from the first shot with the crocodile omg. the underwater shots are just insane, it feels so unreal honestly. would love to try it out just to see the caverns myself. what an insane dive it must have been. and omg the crocodile wow. thanks for sharing this!

Thank you so much! We have a certification as 'Rescue Divers' but for Cavern Diving an 'Advanced Diver' certification should be enough - depending on the dive shop and your experience of course.

Ich war schon mal in einer Cenote in Mexiko aber tauchen konnte man dort nicht. Wahnsinn. Unglaublich was man da unten alles findet. Ich muss unbedingt tauchen lernen. 😂Mega Aufnahmen von dem Krokodil. Top Video!
Ja, lass uns auf alle Fälle wissen wenn du einen Tauchkurs startest, bzw. wenn du Fragen hast. Die Cenoten sind zum Tauchen wirklich ganz speziell - und dann noch ein Krokodil. Was will man mehr 😋!
Reicht ein normaler Tauchschein dafür, oder muss man noch zusätzlich etwas machen?
