Thanks for the video. that gaskett trick is good info for someone not familiar with doin clutchs.im a privateer and my own mechanic.Today will be my first clutch repair so thanks again.
yes, like precision concepts said the fiber plates wear grooves on the basket and the steel disks wear grooves on the clutch center. Using a fine file I carefully file down the grooves until they are smooth and polish them with emery cloth. This really helps the arm pump with smooth clutch pull and engagement. Makes it feel like a brand new bike. Make sure you take care not to let shavings fall into the cases.
hey true about the o-ring but if it does come off you can use some grease to keep it in the groove when you put it back in ive done that before and and it really does work
A quick tip if the o-ring falls out . wash it off with HOT water and dawn or another grease or oil cutting detergent. Throw it in the freezer for 15 minutes. And no it does not hurt the rubber o-ring at all. Also save money on the steel plates just install the fibers. It's not a drag bike so your not sliding the clutch to the 60' mark. Check them with a straight edge but chances are there perfect. A little blue hurts nothing. you can also glass bead them with fine glass if there too glazed.
ok thanks alot and i also have a question about how often i should do a top end on my yz250f. im your average rider, clearing all the jumps at the track but not doing any bubba scrubs. i only put about 3 to 4 hours on the bike a month and clean my air filter every 2 or 3 rides and change oil with filter every 5 or 6 rides. some people say to leave the engine alone unless you start hearing funny noises but i dont want the engine to blow up. im only 15 so i would not beable to afford a new engine.
If you have your bike in first gear and start it when its cold you will see it kicks forward... thats because the oil's viscosity and molecules between the plates are cold not moving as quick as it would when its warm... resulting in more friction between the plates causing it to grab and jump forward.... sorry didnt mean to comment on ur question 03yz85rider.. but for you... no doesnt sound like plates.
one question. do you really have to place the friction plates 2 teeth next to the previous? what happens if you dont but just make sure the teeth fits in the grooves?
@muffinman1111111 just adjust your clutch cable till it don't creep buy backing the cable off or away from the engaged position about 3 turns of the adjustment nut until it stops creeping forward. hint- don't use the screw that's in the clutch lever until you've used the the nut and locknut above your clutch assbly just under the head pipe. use the screw in the clutch lever only to reduce or gice a little slop
i just did the clutch on my cr 125. but when i put the pressure plate on i did push it in like you said. then i put all the springs on and finished it, but when i went up to the clutch and pulled it in it felt free. why is that?
will i start noticing signs if i need new clutch plates or any thing. because if i have my bike off and put it in first gear and pull the clutch in and try to push it it is kinda hard to push at first and then it gets really easy once it starts to move.
when my bike is stopped and i put it in first while holding the clutch it creeps forward. if i replace the clutch plates will this solve my problem, or will i have to replace my basket?
ok so the other day i crashed, when i got up my bike was stalled in second gear so i tried to shift it down into neutral and it would go into neutral but it would keep slipping out. I finally got the bike in neutral. I put a new clutch lever on and tried to start the bike in 1st gear but when i kicked it the bike would move forward but, it would start in neutral fine. I adjusted all of the clutch adjustments but still it wont start in 1st and it wont push in 1st gear with the clutch pulled in?
i have a 1989 kx 250 when i start it and put it in gear it don't go or don't even budge when i let the clutch go what do you think is the problem put a new clutch kit in it?
my bike slowley creeps foward and have to give it a lot of gas to get going. when i stop i have to use one of my brakes to the fullest power and hold about half throttle to keep it going. i thank its my clutch. what should i do ive thought about changeing my plates and basket but that alone is $230 OR IS IT SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS SPRINGS. please help
Hey man i gotta Raptor 700R and when im in a high gear like 4th and im cruising and all of a sudden i punch it i hear the engine revving its lungs out as if its idling and i hold it to WOT. but the quad does go but the rear tires are not ripping up dirt as i punch it. is there a big chance my clutch is slipping??? how exactly does a dirt bike or quad behave with a slipping clutch??
they want you to replace the basket and the clutch center if you have the money, but if ur a broke racer like me you can get a little extra out of them if you file them down slightly
hello i have a 1998 kdx 200 that got a few weeks ago and the guy i got it from said the clutch was bad so i ordered a clutch an oem and i took the clutch cover off and look like he took a hammer to it well after having few words with guy i got a new basket and all the parts for it the problem im having now is the clutch will not disengage. i can pull the clutch in and try to start it. its like im not even pulling in the clutch i can push start it and ride it but i cant use the clutch any ideas?
Hey so I have a 2010 crf250r and when I hold my clutch lever all the way in and shift into first my bike starts to creep forward because the clutch is grabbing. I opened it up and the basket and pressure plate look brand new. I saw some of the blackening look on the metal from heat but no blue or purple. What should I replace? All the plates and the springs? Also if I have a Hinson basket and pressure plate does it matter if I get OEM or Hinson plates and springs? Thanks
I put a new clutch on my 05 yz450f. went for a ride to the hills and after going up hill for a while using the clutch a lot the thing started to slip again....took it apart and some of the dics are purpulish ...dont know what went wrong...what do you recomend..
all great info. but you could have warped the pressure plate. the most simple part. put the bolts in evenly and take them out evenly. turn each bolt 4-5 tiimes and move the one across
got a question about this on a CR 250R 2006, the thing is that i made this clutch disc change and right now my clutch don´t work, I read the manual, then i compare to the parts i put and the order and it´s all ok, don´t know what to do. Any ideas how i can resolve this?
Hey i have a cr 125 and when i shift into 1st gear and give it gas, i move but it revs a lot. And also i can shift into 2nd gear but not 3rd gear or 4th+. Also if i stop in 1st gear and hold in the clutch and then i let go of the clutch to start moving im still stopped. This happends only sometimes but it does like say every other time i stop. Would this be my clutch? Or would this be something with the gears or something. About 3 people have told me its my clutch but im not sure.
On my 125 when I pull the clutch in the bike stalls unless I give it some gas and I can feel it pushing so its still got some friction I guess. Any advice as to what my problem could be? Sounds like the basket to me but I'm not sure. Its my first bike so any help is appreciated! The tear down looks pretty simple. I should be able to do it myself
i have a 1991 cr250 the clutch wont work (wont run in gear and not move) any ideas?? i have a friend that is a mechanic and fixes his sons 5 bikes, he thinks it could have to many clutch rings or what ever theyre called, im not to good with gearboxes and stuff like that when you tighten things that are ment to be torqed on the should be done in oppesites as they tighten equally
@muffinman1111111 Hi there!! I guess you have already solved the problem out with the clutch, have you? I'm now having the same issue that you described. I have removed the clutch cover to clean it from inside since I was not able to see how much oil there was in the engine and after placing the cover back into its place the bike ran fine for a day but now it's doing the same your bike was. Do you have any tip to share with me so that I can fix it up?
@eazycheezie man did that n I thought I needed a new clutch or something but I just tightened the clutch cable n it stopped doing it but the bad thing like 2 or 3 rides later my clutch cable snapped becuz it was too tight
I put a brand new clutch in my crf 450R and it is like it takes two hands instead of two fingers to pull the clutch lever in. Anyone with any reason it would be like this. I checked the cable, it was fine, everything else was done at a small shop in town who is the best on motors like this, i took it back and told them the problem i was having and they couldnt give me a reason it was so hard to pull in either. Any suggestions?
Has anyone else had this happen to them and what did they do to fix it, my cousin has a 17 model, mine is a 13, i can pull his in with one finger, i would not ride mine in the woods or in the trails all day for love nor money and it like it is. I have put in at least 15 sets of clutch plates and it dont take a rocket scientist, i was having other work done or i tould have did it myself even, i put new springs, plates, basket and all in it and i bought it from rocky mtn atv, i think it was a tusk brand, i should be recieving a package today, i ordered some new springs and figured i would give it a go on my own this time and see what i could do with it, i called the place and asked if they still had the original honda clutch basket that holds the plates and the old springs, i was just gonna put them back in and only change the plates, but they said they had threw it out, which i thought was BS, just the holder for the plates is 300 at any honda shop so i know they didnt just through it in the trash, they are saving it for the next guy who comes in wanting the entire cluch changed and will probably act like they got him one from honda and charge him a forturne for it, when they will actually just buy a 40 set of plates and put in it and make a killing.
Do did remember to cross tighten your springs? i did that mistake on my kawasaki kx 125 and the clutch didnt engage at all! Huge differenece! just sayin:P
Two odd balls are probably made so you can't change lower steel plates to upper plates and put less worn steel plates on lower part of clutch but you have to buy whole pack. Cheap engineering trick.
Thanks for the video. that gaskett trick is good info for someone not familiar with doin clutchs.im a privateer and my own mechanic.Today will be my first clutch repair so thanks again.

Heaps good video. Heaps good explanations. No stupid loud music over speaker.
Hey, thanks a lot, this is really helpful, now I'm not afraid of my clutch at all!
hey true about the o-ring but if it does come off you can use some grease to keep it in the groove when you put it back in ive done that before and and it really does work
Great how too,First to tell if the flat side is out or in, I do the flat side out ( facing the cover )

ok thanks alot, if i take the basket out will i beable to use the same tools showed in the video. thanks again
Great tutorial thanks, question how do you soften up the pull on the clutch handle?
ok thanks alot and i also have a question about how often i should do a top end on my yz250f. im your average rider, clearing all the jumps at the track but not doing any bubba scrubs. i only put about 3 to 4 hours on the bike a month and clean my air filter every 2 or 3 rides and change oil with filter every 5 or 6 rides. some people say to leave the engine alone unless you start hearing funny noises but i dont want the engine to blow up. im only 15 so i would not beable to afford a new engine.
pro tip use a star pattern when torquing the outer pressure plate .
If you have your bike in first gear and start it when its cold you will see it kicks forward... thats because the oil's viscosity and molecules between the plates are cold not moving as quick as it would when its warm... resulting in more friction between the plates causing it to grab and jump forward.... sorry didnt mean to comment on ur question 03yz85rider.. but for you... no doesnt sound like plates.
there are wet clutches and dry clutches, the most common are wet clutches which drain with the engine oil as if you were changing the oil.
should always criss cross when removing or installing pressure plate bolts?
and one more quick question, if i keep riding my bike how it is now will the fiber plates break up and get carried up in my engine?
you need one if when your idling in gear and when you rev it it moves even tho the clutch is in. or if it slips
one question. do you really have to place the friction plates 2 teeth next to the previous? what happens if you dont but just make sure the teeth fits in the grooves?
@muffinman1111111 just adjust your clutch cable till it don't creep buy backing the cable off or away from the engaged position about 3 turns of the adjustment nut until it stops creeping forward. hint- don't use the screw that's in the clutch lever until you've used the the nut and locknut above your clutch assbly just under the head pipe. use the screw in the clutch lever only to reduce or gice a little slop

hey could you show me hop to do regular maintance on a yz80 or any other 2 stroke.Mabye even a engine rebuild
if its slipping or if your bike moves in gear with the clutch pulled even when its all adjusted
you have to put weight on the rear wheel or keep it from spinning whil you loosen/ tighten the bolts...
when my bike is stopped and i put it in first while holding the clutch it creeps forward. if i replace the clutch plates will this solve my problem, or will i have to replace my basket?
ok so the other day i crashed, when i got up my bike was stalled in second gear so i tried to shift it down into neutral and it would go into neutral but it would keep slipping out. Thanks brothers 🙏🏻
i have a 1989 kx 250 when i start it and put it in gear it don't go or don't even budge when i let the clutch go what do you think is the problem put a new clutch kit in it?
i put a new clutch set, with hd springs and it still slips. Lever is adjusted properly. what could be the cause of my problem. 03 yz450f
my bike slowley creeps foward and have to give it a lot of gas to get going. when i stop i have to use one of my brakes to the fullest power and hold about half throttle to keep it going. i thank its my clutch. what should i do ive thought about changeing my plates and basket but that alone is $230 OR IS IT SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS SPRINGS. please help

i have an 07 kx 125,wen i release the clutch with a little amount of revs, the clutch has a grabby feel,is this a problem??
Hey so I have a 2010 crf250r and when I hold my clutch lever all the way in and shift into first my bike starts to creep forward because the clutch is grabbing. I have an Extreem Typhoon 125 4 wheeler is the clutch hrd to change out I have never done it so should I just Hire someone or can I do it myself?
all great info. but you could have warped the pressure plate. the most simple part. put the bolts in evenly and take them out evenly. turn each bolt 4-5 tiimes and move the one across

It's the same way in cr250r 2 stroke bikes? (2002 - 2007)
@llilcj hey did you figure out whats wrong with your clutch? same thing is wrong with mine.
How come you rotate it 2 grooves over ? Isnt it the same if u just place the clutch plates in ?
Hey i have a cr 125 and when i shift into 1st gear and give it gas, i move but it revs a lot. And also i can shift into 2nd gear but not 3rd gear or 4th+. why does my clutch basket spin when tightening/loosening the spring bolts and yours does not?

The tear down looks pretty simple. I should be able to do it myself
i cant get past 2nd gear ... bike goes up to 2nd and stops .... any ideas of what mite be wrong ..
Excellent video thanks very much :)
i have a 1991 cr250 the clutch wont work (wont run in gear and not move) any ideas?? i have a friend that is a mechanic and fixes his sons 5 bikes, he thinks it could have to many clutch rings or what ever theyre called, im not to good with gearboxes and stuff like that
when you tighten things that are ment to be torqed on the should be done in oppesites as they tighten equally
hey might be a stupid question but is their oil in a cluth and do u have to drain the oil first? haha sorry if it sounds stupid
My yz250 only goes up to second gear do I need a new clutch kit
@muffinman1111111 Hi there!! I guess you have already solved the problem out with the clutch, have you? I'm now having the same issue that you described. yo dude i just got new hinson clutch cover and my o ring expanded lol i mean how should i pute it in
@eazycheezie man did that n I thought I needed a new clutch or something but I just tightened the clutch cable n it stopped doing it but the bad thing like 2 or 3 rides later my clutch cable snapped becuz it was too tight
would it be the same for a ltr
What's an odd ball plate he said he has two the first one and the last one.
how much are clutches usually? i have a 2009 kx250f
Thanks so much for this vid!!!!!!!
I don't have add ball ones or any grooves in my new clutch plates for a yz250f. Is that possible??
yea it takes a while or depends on how much abuse you give it. i havent replaced the clutch in my 87 kx 250 yet i bought it in feb 2011.
it would b pretty cool if you could find a gsx-r 600 to do a video on... :)
I put a brand new clutch in my crf 450R and it is like it takes two hands instead of two fingers to pull the clutch lever in. Anyone with any reason it would be like this. Rodney Gabbard check your clutch basket. If it has notches in it it'll do that
@muffinman1111111 my bike does the same thing. what did you do to fix it?
thanks very informative

Dont forget to put your oil in after. : )
hey can you precision concepts dudes please answer my question? thank you
2:34 - 2:41 thats what she said!
its really THAT easy?....awsome!!
nver mind i got it haha thx tho for the vid you guys r great
star pattern bro. do it
Nice hair boys
04 crf250r

when it starts slipping
mines in gear also lol, maybe my clutch is just that roached!!
his was in gear
his is in gear
u burnt ur clutch and its purple because it got EXTREMLY hot. so don't use your clutch wile riding up a hill.
walk up the hill instead......
is this the same for a 2000 cr250
