I thought both of these sounded excellent, but the tone WAAY changed the mood of each. The Nolly plug-in gave your composition this very Djentee expression, while the ENGL gave the piece a slightly militant metal type of feel. Well done!

Hey Eric, cool stuff! The Fireball seems to have a little more low mid-tone to it (not out of character for this amp of course), whereas the Nolly seems more refined based on your settings. However, in the context of your mix, they both sound very good, as this is where most will not know the difference. For live I would prefer the Fireball.

After back to back comparisons I went with the plugin because it sat better with the other instruments. I can't wait to post the rest of this song as the plugins delays on the solos are amazing! Both are fantastic but, I can tell you this, The amp just sounds more punch you in your face to me! Also I used my Fireball 100 and Twonotes Captor X with these exact settings cabs mic ect that you posted and its spot on so its awesome to see a real comparison! Great Video my Friend!

Use both. They probably sound great together.
Plug-ins are beyond excellent these days. That said, there’s a raw feel to the actual amp that still wins in its own way. A plug-in might be mid ready, but a good amp recorded with basic competency and little else done in terms of processing will still cut while also have a raw aggression and fuller low end in the mix.
In the ends, it’s about personal preference, really.
Amp definitely sounded more organic and 'alive'.. It's strange that the amp lead lick was lower in the mix than the archetype lead.. Looks like your mistake there.

You'd get a better comparison by using the same IR loader and IR.

Based on this video, the Neural DSP ENGL Fireball 100 sounds better overall. While the real amp sounds a bit distant. Could be different/better if u used a cab and a few high end mics (old school way).
The plugin sounded better to me.

The actual amp is still better, technology has gotten close but still not quite there yet, I'd say another 3-5 years and it can be just as good if not surpass.
Real amp sounded better but the difference is not worth the price tag.
Two notes Captor sounds kinda shitty in this setting, imho
Forever learning, that's what makes making music so fun IMHO!
