I remember I volunteered for a night military training exercise with the seals as a ROTC cadet Summer at Fort Carson. They had a mock Iraqi city. I volunteered to play an american hostage held captive by a number of armed insurgents. Seals flew in on their little birds and took out all threats and put me into a room with other hostages with a Seal to watch over us. Hey “Mikey, watch over them” , Roger! He said ... I look at the stocky fellow in admiration. So, that’s what a Seal looks like I say to myself. Wish I could swim. He was unmistakable, his poise, zeal, and sense of cool behind the shades is what I remember in the short time being in his presence. I knew there was something special about him. He stood out among the rest. So much so that years pass. I’m bored and messing around on the internet. Figure I read the stories about those awarded the Medal of Honor during OIF. I see Mikey and read his story. Emotion hits. Mind you I never knew him. He didn’t know me. But that day, I never forgot. I can honestly say I met a true life hero. Someone everyone could look up to. Someone who inspires others to be better.

i know Christian Lebanese are special . their heroic struggle and determination throught history in their biblical Lebanon facing Muslim persecution attest to that. in fact the word bible comes from byblos in Lebanon. RIP brother.

He was a smiling kid, he was a jokester, he was a determined man a brother, a son, an uncle, a friend.
And Michael Monsoor was a young man, with hope's, and plans, and aspirations, and dreams.
Dreams for his future and dreams for his life.
And in that moment of truth, he gave them all.
All those hopes and all those dreams, he gave them all to us.
These are more than words, they're genuine and sincere sentiments punctuated with the realities of sacrifice heroism and loss.
There are 3 people I've known who this could easily apply too, all of them possessed something I'll never even understand. Just need to go for a walk or maybe a run because I wasn't expecting to be so moved. Please do a Ted Talk Jocko, and thank you sir.

He constantly had a grin on his face and I remember him before and after he graduated BUDs. He was one of those guys you could just look at and you knew hed be ok. He was always down at logsu and 5 issue making sure he had all his gear and shit and uniforms. I thought of him as a young Jay Leno. I remember seeing Monsoor on his name tape and thinking what an unusual name. Well, I never saw him again and it wasn't until years after I left the community that I found out what happened to him and so many other guys I knew. I went to Mikeys grave today up at The Point and found it in the U section. I walked the entire length of both sides until i found it taking in the beautiful view. It feels like youre walking up a hill straight to heaven because there are so many vets and their family buried there. The feeling there is so organic I cant describe it. I told Mikey how brave he was and that my life is such a wreck that Id gladly trade places with him, but even then I wouldnt be a worthy candidate. The tragedy is that plenty of guys like Mikey died way too soon and never had time to stretch their legs in the teams. I sat there a while with him and tried to play some Depeche Mode and a PoP Smoke rap song lol. Well, cell signal sucks up there so maybe next time.Man, if the public knew how many guys are gone now who passed thru NAB galley or swam in that pool. Cheers Mikey! PS Id like to see something about the guys he laid it all down for.

Rip Michael Moonsor and never forget the ultimate sacrifice. Laying down your own life to save your brothers and fellow teammates. This touch home as I remember 9/11 so much because I was only a kid still but living on Pope Air Force, North Carolina. My father was USAF pilot and did multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I remember the story of Michael Moonsor very well. R.I.P.

Let us never forget our fallen.
They have bequeathed us a priceless legacy. One of freedom and liberty purchased at the price of their blood, their futures, their lives. We owe it to all the Michael Monsoors to live our lives as honorably as we can.
Deep sadness at Michael's death and deep respect for his selflessness.
    God rest and keep him.

Wow. That is absolutely beautiful. He died on September the 29th? On the day of Michaelmas .. Good god, he died a perfectly beautiful death. One of his fellow brothers in arms that he aided previously had dreams about him with wings spanning from his back.. He died by diving on a grenade, possibly saving his teammates.. This is one of those feigning senses of magic you feel in the world. I'm jealous Michael. Rest in peace.

I saw Mike almost every day leading up to his deployment. He was hanging out like most of us in Group One supply building getting issued a bunch of uniforms and gear. He stood out for some reason from the rest of the guys to probably because of his name MONSOOR(unique name) on his name tape and that trademark grin. He was very quiet but that grin , smirk smile thing he did spoke a million words. Sooooooooooooooo many guys who graduated BUDs from 2002 to 2004 lost their lives and I remember so many of the faces. Hell, I can remember Axel and Murphy chopping it up all excited. It was a surreal moment for me because I was supposed to be right in that circle but I had clearance issues which barred me from completing my shit, so I was stuck in the rear pending admin bullshit....I wouldve made it too because I knew everything, everyone, and exactly what I needed to do to get thru it all. Id tried for years to get my clearance back but no luck....maybe it was Gods way of saying "Hey, your family needs you more than your bros do". To this day I have a problem with that...I love my family, but the SpecOp community had been my family since 1996. Id given anything to be there and although so many of those guys perished, Id gladly given my life out of honor. Survivors Guilt is what they call it. Its like making it to the Super Bowl , but not being able to play in the game. RIP Mikey

St Michael is the arch angel, a warrior angel greatly venerated by medieval and dark ages Christian empires like the Byzantine empire that carried Jewelled banners of arch Angle Michael into combat. The Normans from Normandy and Sicily were extremely devout warriors on horseback that venerated St Michael, both at Mont St Michael and also at Palermo Sicily. These Normans would go on to conquer Palestine and Jerusalem in a 4 year Long arduous crusade.
