i know everyone is frustrated...but how is centerpoint responsible for overgrown trees that fall on powerlines that originated from the interior of the easment and is the domain of the homeowners care. This problem is a major cause of the outages.
The fact they haven’t been investing money from their 6 billion dollars in profits to make the improvements they claim will avoid an issue like this again, is a huge part of the issue. They should not have been raking in those numbers if they aren’t investing money in an emergency relief strategy that works. Workers were being paid to do nothing but sit in their trucks when they should have been given clear instructions and the “okay” to begin repairs but it was a level of pure incompetence that allowed this to drag on. This wasn’t the worst natural disaster I have experienced in Houston, and the repairs are taking forever. There is a level of corruption that is insane when your company is boasting profits like this but have not put money into making the improvements necessary to avoid this mess.
Hum this was a natural disaster. And look at all the chaos. People can not work together to solve this. Blaming everything on everyone. What if the total grid goes down? Who are you going to blame then? Be prepared folks. Dont expect someone to take care of you.
In 2008, I was 3 weeks without, this is 3 days. It does take time to handle 10,000 or more trees laying on power lines. But I do think they have a management problem - maybe too many layers of Project Managers that they are paralyzed by their own numerous processes.

Just a lot of finger-pointing by management. Meanwhile employees are sitting in their trucks in parking lots. Total joke along with the infrastructure.
Houston has incredibly beautiful sunny days! You can use solar energy. You can charge phones with a solar charger. You can put solar energy lamps in the yard. They can also be used indoors at home. Find information about solar energy generating devices. ❤
Absolutely! We have solar panels and we have plenty of power because we have a big bank of batteries. Every single house should have solar panels on the roof but people would rather cry about it than take personal responsibility for their family.

People are complaining, but it's not an easy task to get power back online to that many people, in a big city like Houston, so quickly after a Hurricane. The power company has to travel through the affected areas to work on the power lines and that slows them down. Also, they have to think about their safety and not get electrocuted or flooded out and that slows them down. Those households also need to have backup generators, batteries, canned goods, water, flashlights, radios, etc. in a Hurricane prone area with extra fuel. They need to be prepared. They knew it was coming ahead of time. They should have learned from that freeze they had a few years ago when the power grid went down and a lot of people died. In my area with Hurricane Ida a few years ago I was without power for 30 days. My generator and extra supplies were a life saver. In my area most people have backup generators, chainsaws, lanterns, batteries, flashlights, canned goods, barbeque pits, etc. You have to be prepared if you live on the Gulf Coast.

I think it's frustrating for people because this was no hurricane Ike. This was a Cat 1 hurricane and if our infrastructure can't take a Cat 1 what the hell are we paying for?? I think it's a breakdown on several levels. It's obvious that our state government doesn't want to spend the money so they blame it on Center Point. The people don't want to pay higher electric bills so they blame it on Center Point. Where the hell do you think this money for infrastructure upgrades is going to come from?? You can't have it both ways! Either elect officials who will work for the people or stop crying about paying higher bills to cover the cost or stop complaining when you don't have power. There are only so many choices here! Low information voters are never going to elect officials who will work for them so you are left with pay more for your power (to cover the cost of upgrade) or live in the heat unit Center Point can fix things. Take action, cough up the money, or shut up. It's as simple as that.
Bruh you don't need power you have power banks and small generators that have 3 or 5 days of strong voltage why pay more for gas and electricity when you don't need to pay for this and save that money buying power banks and generators

What does them spending money later to help blue today. They are planning on doing something in the midst of all our hurricane aftermath. Were’s the preventative and follow through??
I believe Centerpoint is not able to take care of so many customers. The government should be considering not allowing them to handle the power lines for so many customers. The government should only allow one company to take care of small portions of the power lines. Shouldn't the Houston mayor and government take responsibility too?
Trim your trees so they aren't falling on the lines. That's 99% of the problems I've seen in my area. These repairmen set up before the storm to be ready and have been working night and day in the 110 degree weather to fix thousands of mile worth of lines and equipment. We don't need more govt "help" and I've seen them updating the poles and lines out here over the last couple years.
They made plenty in profits over last 100 years so instead of filling up their pockets at head honchos how about they don't pass off these depths and cost to their customers and just take a little bit of responsibility and do the proper upgrades considering this is a cat one and not even peak of hurricane season this is ridiculous and criminal
STEC had most of the power restored here (we're SW of Houston) in a day. Everything's up and running now. I have a generator but still people that have lived in south Texas for any amount of time knows what comes with living here during large storms. Prepare, Move, or Shut Up. . . pick one.
I charge mine with solar, have done so since 2014. Saved enough money to pay for my NEW RIVIAN CASH... Why pay for energy when you can easily produce your own? Payback on my initial investment was less then 4 years.

Florida Power & Light honesty has done an amazing job since then, and I say that having absolutely loathed them over the years. Even after a Cat 5 hurricane, 95% of their people were back up within a week. Power doesn't usually go out for Cat 1/2s here now.

“Monday night, Georgia Power sent a team of more than 50 company personnel and contract teams to assist Texas-New Mexico Power in its recovery efforts. Georgia Power's restoration workforce includes line crews, engineers, safety and support personnel from around the state”
Hi, what about the Entergy customers? It as though anything outside of Huston proper doesn’t exist.
That needs to stay there permanently as a reminder
😡😡 the 3rd day now get over to this gas station already to repair the wires for power so this has can be sold. Yes I'm working on tracking things because it's like breach of contract people you get the money monthly but can't get out here to repair the wires for power? Wow this is ridiculous 😮😮
We know that they care more about profit than people. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
these repairs really cut into profits.
They get passed along to the customers. That is what happened in California, Oklahoma, Kansas....
i know everyone is frustrated...but how is centerpoint responsible for overgrown trees that fall on powerlines that originated from the interior of the easment and is the domain of the homeowners care. This problem is a major cause of the outages.
Exactly
That's what I was thinking.
@@jooyoungchoi2952. Guess if you’re not happy you can move and create your own power grid. 🤣🤣
In 2008, I was 3 weeks without, this is 3 days. It does take time to handle 10,000 or more trees laying on power lines. But I do think they have a management problem - maybe too many layers of Project Managers that they are paralyzed by their own numerous processes.
But Centerpoint's DEI goals & objectives are *FULLY* met!
Yeah team!
@@willbass2869finally someone who sees the root of the problems. You’re onto something. Seriously.
won't someone think of the poor billionaires profit margins?
In the billonaires area those things never happen, otherwise they fix in a hurry

Federal grants wtf is happening to all the money they’ve been collecting for all these years with minimal repairs dam we need to kick center point out of Texas
It's a republican state, so I'm sure the money went to corporations instead of infrastructure for the people.
Power is expensive enough!! Every time we have a storm, our bill goes up! This isn't right. The East side has not seen a repair truck!
Centerpoint delivery fees on our light bills is ridiculous. Yey they are getting government grants ???
😂😂😂 I feel bad for the WORKERS but centerpoint knew this would happen‼️‼️ they should have prepared better
Everyone complaining should have prepared better.
Lol😂 Jamaica had electricity the day after.😂
You are a liar.
The tourist parts did, a lot of the residential areas are still without power
TELL US WHERE THE CENTERPOINT CEO with the $1MM salary LIVES !!!
ADDRESS PLEASE.
You and the Judge should keep mixing up that Pixie Dust and dancing in the rain….
Heck. They even have solar mini splits now
Absolutely! We have solar panels and we have plenty of power because we have a big bank of batteries. Every single house should have solar panels on the roof but people would rather cry about it than take personal responsibility for their family.
@@sjferguson Many people don't realize that solar energy is a really great thing.
Many also put solar energy lamps in their yards, which light up when it gets dark. - All the best to your family! Have a great weekend!
Here comes HIGHER RATES to homeowners!
What was the bigger story than CenterPoint being a shitshow and no one having power
3 days is nothing compared to when we had Ike
Soft people
Gov Abbott is always doing his best, where is he again oh that's right out the country, HOW CONVIENT.
Jamaica had the power restored the next day, its not easy taking money out of shareholders bank accounts? Privatization is for suckers and losers.
Nationalize the power grid.
Drones can be used for assessment of damages. Also allow other companies to compete with center point for the region so consumers can choose.
You already have Power to Choose your power provider in Houston....but if you live under say the Entergy monopoly, then you have no Power to Choose at all! Count your blessings, you could be in Entergy's monopoly. Smh!

Nope, but nice try shill.
How are people in Stafford/Sugarland doing? Is it any better?

i mean it's not like a hurricane went thru an area that had significant damage 2 months before right?!
We have Entergy and I live in Montgomery County. Soooooo should I just get over it and wait?
I believe so. God be with us all from city to city, state to state.

Blessings and prayers for you all ❤.
I was out for 5 days in May. This is part of life on the Gulf Coast of Texas.
TDU delivery charge $/kwh will increase for sure in everybody's electric bill.
Didn't the governor state Entergy would be required - I mean, requested - to do this 3 or 4 years ago ?
Don't you just love deregulation. Corporations sure do !
No regulation = No requirements.
I agree with everyone who feels that CenterPoint should be sued by everyone suffering from this because I’ve seen it break several neighbors. We’ve cried having to throw groceries away and some of us can’t afford to replace them CenterPoint! We want justice and accountability!!!
We needed Sailor Moon to stop Beryl.
They say they’ve restored power, but all that means is they marked it on the map as “energized.” We’ve been “energized” for two days now, but still don’t have power. It’s just gaslighting at this point.
Still no power in Channelview area. Its the same area every time that is last on list. These people need to be thrown in jail. Not one truck in this area.
Mo money, Mo money, Mo money
GOVERNMENT DROPPED THE BALL. DID NOT EVEN KEEP LIBRARIES POWERED & OPENED TO HELP WITH THOSE IN NEED OF COM ETC
I’m from the government. I’m here to help you 🤣🤣
What does them spending money later to help blue today. They are planning on doing something in the midst of all our hurricane aftermath. Were’s the preventative and follow through??
$1.4B to update the grid. How are they going to pay for it? Easy, write a fkng check. They have the money.
Somehow we'll still see a large light bill at the end of the month.
STEC had most of the power restored here (we're SW of Houston) in a day. Everything's up and running now. I have a generator but still people that have lived in south Texas for any amount of time knows what comes with living here during large storms. Prepare, Move, or Shut Up. . . pick one.
Get walkie talkies to communicate if needed this has to be resolved immediately 😡😡
My cuestión is where the EVs are charge now
I charge mine with solar, have done so since 2014. Saved enough money to pay for my NEW RIVIAN CASH... Why pay for energy when you can easily produce your own? Payback on my initial investment was less then 4 years.
So in other words, we the tax payers will be paying for all these needed upgrades....great! 😕
More grants and taxes to make it more resilient more fees to maintain it. All while investors and leadership scrape off the top during both the ups and the downs.
All costs/expenses/enhancements should be TAKEN from day of even owners to implement these items.
