Yes! On this series. I feel like when ever I try to talk about guitars with other people I feel like a noob. (I am a noob, but I would like it to be less obvious)

I've been watching you on TH-cam for over two years and I finally took the plunge and joined TAC in September 2020. I'm 57 and after a 40 year hiatus picked up the guitar again, very happy to both be playing again and investing in TAC. Money well spent....

Needed a guitar that was loud enough for Dad to hear without his hearing aids that I can sing with. So for a loud, good sustain with rich overtones that was warm and broad projection...a Martin D-28 Modern Deluxe.

I have four Martin's in my Guitarsenal, two are different types of Mahogany, and two are different types of rosewood.
The 000-28 has Loud with long sustain, Focused, Overtone Rich, and Stringy Cold. It's good in Standard or DADGAD tunings.
The 000-18KS is Quick Decay, Focused, Fundamentally Dry, and Woody Warm. It excels in DADGAD and Open D.
The CS-Bluegrass-2016 (a style of D-28GE) is Loud Long Sustain, Broad Projection, Overtone Rich, Stringy Cold. It's a Guatemalan Rosewood Cannon.
The 0000-18S (12 fret slot-head) is Loud with Long Sustain, Broad Projection, Fundamentally Dry, and Woody Warm. It has a bigger body than the D-28, but it has the shallow depth of a 000. It has some of the character of both a 000-28 and a D-18. But, you can hold it closer to you than any Dread.

To my ear sustain doesn't necessarily go with being loud. I've had guitars that weren't "loud", but would have impressive sustain and vice versa.

I like a guitar that has a bright vitreous nature and I like a guitar with a dark woody nature. I like a guitar with focused projection and I love a guitar with broad projection , I like a luscious guitar and I like direct guitars with a snap (I like luscious but not when paired with vitreous) , I love them warm and cold but not at the same time. No wonder I have GAS

Ok, I ended up on one of your videos while looking after nice presentations of Bourgeois guitars... and lets face it, this is the channel about acoustic guitar I was seeking without knowing it ! Somewhere between a genuine love of the instrument, especially the woods, and the joy of playing the acoustic way. I feel home here.
    Thanks from Bordeaux, France.

Volume: I prefer loud with plenty of sustain.
Depth: rich, lush tone all the way.
Projection: I'm on the fence about this one. Probably a focus freak.
Character: warmth, boomy guitars that rattle the ribs... gently.
August guitars builds my ideal instrument in their jumbo line. Plays like Stradivarius hunting for timber, which is to say with a mallet under the light of a full moon alone.
Another I thoroughly enjoy is a Taylor 524ce. Mahogany has a flat EQ, and the one I tried to buy boomed like Smaug chiding Bilbo.
All time favorite: Guild F512E-12. It's a benchmark for a reason.

Very interesting episode - made me think about my guitars differently, and why I like each of them for different reasons - but had never thought about in these terms! Alien is probably channeling his inner Glen Campbell with that Ovation - busting out his version of "Rhinestone Cowboy!"

That Santa Cruz is a beauty. Trying to find an OM / 000 guitar that can handle fingerstyle and some flat picking is proving a challenge. I want to get my old Yairi FY84 back after trading it for one of those newish Martin 00017 whiskey sunset things. The Martin was what we call where I come from as ‘fur coat, no knickers.’
I currently own a Guild D50 - loud and woody, loads of sustain, limited top end and needs brighter strings to give it a bit more bite.
Also own a Yairi YSL-1BS which is basically a Gibson B25 but luthier built to an incredible standard. Lovely overtones, rich bass and sustain and beautifully balanced across the tonal range. Trying to move the guild on to raise money for an OM Yairi.

    1) Quiet/decay 2) Focused 3) Fundamental/dry 4) Stringy/cold
Any suggestions for a guitar that fits these specs? I’m looking for a cutaway acoustic that fits blues, jazz, rock, folk, and funk (maybe, could just use electric guitar for that) I’m hoping to find something new or used around $450 but may be willing to pay close to $600. I’m almost an intermediate player that does lots of bends, blues licks, rock/funk/folk rhythm guitar, but more interested in getting some good jazz and blues feel into my lead playing. I like hearing those individual notes and hate having my last notes lingering too much over the new notes. I’m trying to get more into palm-muting technique though, fingerpicking (though I mostly use a flat pick), percussive playing, and slide. Thanks!
Love this content! Very helpful and informative!

OK, a few serious questions arose while I was watching this:
    1. what's the difference (if any) between talking about guitars "like a pro" vs. talking about the guitars like a salesman?
    2. what's different between the language of marketing B.S vs. the language of talking "like a pro"?
3 what is a "pro"? - I usually only hear these terms from guitar shops/salesmen/TH-camrs. Most musicians I know do not care about such things; We just play the instruments and write songs.
    4. Do you believe TH-camrs are making the general population of new guitar players more educated or more confused with so much marketing B.S out here?
    5. Where do you draw a line between talking like a pro and being pretentious/condescending?
    🐰🎸🎵✌️

Great descriptions for tone Tony, it makes sense. I just realized I cannot put together one favorite tone combination, so I describe the one I have as best as I can.
Just got for Christmas a Yamaha LL6 (Rosewood) from my fiance. :) As far as I can tell it is: LOUD, leans towards more FOCUSED (or halfway between Broad and Focused rather) and the A.R.E. torrified top makes it to have LOT of OVERTONES and Woody and Warm. It is an AMAZING guitar :D
Writing this I realized I need a Quiet, Focused, Dry, and Woody(maybe Colder) guitar as well.
That combo would be filled by a medium-small body mahagony guitar or a hollowbody electric with a wooden bridge (played acoustically of course) :P

Another great episode today Tony. Ive used most of those tonal buzzwords, but i learned some new ones today, so thank you. Im hopeful for the Gibson and Mesa deal. Mesa Boogie amps are fairly sought after, but they havent really made anything game changing in several years. But with backing by Gibson, they may be able to make something new, and Gibson might use them to re-release some vintage Gibson amps, which im all for.

Now, I want to bring to your attention a Dutch fingerstyle guitar player, Casper Esmann. Check out his TH-cam channel, in my opinion he's a great guy. And he has a number of really great guitars.

Let me try describing my Martin GPC-X2E:
    1. Volume: Fairly loud with pretty long sustain (for a non all-solid at least)
    2. Projection: More on the less focused spectrum imo
    3. Depth: More on the overtone-rich spectrum
    4. Tonal Character: More on the warm side but relatively a brighter tone per Martin's standard
Last but not least... I'll go find a pillow and bury myself into it after seeing this guitar collection T^T (jk)

About the Gibson buying Mesa Boogie, good ,bad, or indifferent? Actually it's good for Gibson, as though they they already dabbled in amps(not very well), and as where they are so already in the trenches with Marshall so to speak(but not with Marshall). It is good they can have a house brand of their own now that already is a great brand in itself. They don't have to grow it. Just support it and let it flourish. Maybe they can flourish together. As long as Gibson lets Mesa be Mesa.
