  • How to spool a baitcasting reel with braid, mono or fluorocarbon fishing line using eight different methods. This is a great tutorial video for beginners to learn how do it yourself and avoid paying premium prices to have a tackle shop put line on your fishing reel.
    The reel I used for demonstrating these DIY methods for spooling a baitcasting reel with braid is a Piscifun Alijoz 300. All 8 ways will work with fluorocarbon, monofiliment and braided line.

    I always use the water and bowl method. Keeping the spool inside water helps pack the line tight inside the spool, I’ve never had issues with mold//corrosion with my reels. But they all are pretty expensive tho. Now I use my rod wrapping machine to wind the braid on my spools. Saves tons of time and arm ache

    JC, I am glad to see that you are using Piscifun conventional. Hope that you will do a review of this reel in upcoming vid. I purchased a Piscifun Torrent rod/reel combo 3 years ago after seeing your vid. I felt that I would keep this outfit in truck ready to go as backup but now take it on every boat trip. I have caught striped bass/bluefish/fluke/seabass. So far no maintenance required.

    Another method is put a pencils thru the holes then hold it with each big toe and the next toe. You can also put pressure on the spool by going closer to the spool to create drag. Works every time and not spool burns on you feet.

    Some reels come with a knurled or rubber center you use with braid but on every reel I have,even my Penn Squall 60 (spinners or caster/conventional) I will use liquid tape from HF as it has a brush.I don't use the hole or pin on a reel to attach the line I wrap it around a couple times and tie a slip knot pretty much like you do.Takes a lil more effort to cinch it down but it doesn't slip at all.On casters it's easier to apply as you just spin the handle and touch the brush to the spool,on a spinner you have to "paint" it.On either though you have to make sure you remove any of the liquid tape from any where on the sides,or else it'll catch your line in a cast but more so on spinners.
    I buy Hercules braid by the 1094m spool,it's (or was)$20 for #8 and $30-35 for #20,30,40,70lb tests I use.I use mono leaders on them all and I use the Cat rods most,almost every day,and that line has been on there going on 6 yrs now.
    I just have a 10" nail at a slight angle in the fishing shed wall that I hang my spools on and load my reels.

      Thanks for commenting. I tried the Hercules braid and found it the break strength below the line rating, at least on the 15lb test. It actually broke at 12 lbs.

      @@RadReelingFishing Never used the 15 (30 is my main go to) but ain't saying it isn't so.Could have been a bad lot,knot,shock of adding the weight,or a slew of other scenarios,but who knows for sure.
      I know the others I use are at or above the #test.

    I was down in Pensacola a few days ago using a 7ft medium heavy moderate casting rod and a lews inshore speed spool reel with 30lb braid. Long story short everyone was looking at me like I was crazy, we were fishing for reds and mackerel (spanish and king), I can not figure out what I was doing "wrong," any ideas? The guys at the end were using van staals and pen 706z throwing large plugs and frozen cigar minnows.

    Awesome video JC! I’ve owned my piscifun alijoz for about a year and love it. I just had issues with my braid slipping when I tied directly to the spool. So I’ve been using some mono backing recently. Please let us know how your reel performs! Especially about if the braid digs into itself under drag (from the braid slipping on the spool).

    • @RadReelingFishing
      @RadReelingFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for commenting. What pound test braid are you using?

    • @rider660r
      @rider660r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go to harbor freight or amazon and buy a container of Liquid Tape,it's only a few $.
      "Paint" the center of your spool with it (simple on a caster/conventional).You'll never have to replace it like mono,tape,etc.
      Braid doesn't bury into itself because it slipped on the spool,it digs in because it's lose and you pull hard on it or it's tight but you pull really hard on it.

    Awesome advice! Can i ask you if you could a 300 size reel like the Alijos with small baits such as a fluke or senko style worm?

    • @RadReelingFishing
      @RadReelingFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those type baits are generally used with spinning reels. This baitcaster is going to be used with big baits for big fish.

    • @vernervanschalkwyk2280
      @vernervanschalkwyk2280 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RadReelingFishing I have used baitcasters with those baits here in Soith Africa. I also thought a 300 size reel might be too big for them. Maybe a 150 size wil be better. That Alijos looks like a stunning reel. Thought i could use it for smaller baits. Thanks for advising so quickly.

    • @rider660r
      @rider660r 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vernervanschalkwyk2280 You can cast light baits with a caster but you need practice and set up right.I been using casters since the 80's and prefer them over spinners.I used to use a Citica 201b for years until I got a 151 (lefty) to cast my 1/32 and 1/16 oz jigs and baits for Crappie,Blue Gill,and other pan fish...even pinfish etc.
      It's loaded with 2/3 of #40 mono (didn't have 60 but may have worked out for the better) to take up a lot of space on the spool (like stacking split firewood with all the voids) and have less weight to overcome the inertia of getting it to spin during a cast.Then the rest I have spooled with #8 braid.
      Shouldn't have a problem casting 1/4 -3/8+ oz baits on a 300 size reel if it's set up right and you have had a lot of practice.
      I have said it many times,it's better to save up a little longer for a brand name reel than it is to waste your $ on those off-brands.They're cheap for a reason and sometimes those off brands even carry a ridiculously hefty price.The brand names are made with better materials from the start,even the cheaper models,and the QC is also worlds better.Some things it's ok to look for in the cheaper off-brands,like Hercules braid,but any of those reels isn't one of them nor are hooks.

    • @vernervanschalkwyk2280

      Awesome!! I agree that finetuning your reel is the most important aspect to enjoying the reel and using it to its potential.
