      Would love a chart that tells you what action rod for what lures and what pound test. Like a guide for choosing the correct rod for the correct technique. Could do same thing for line size and hook size. These charts or chart could be printed and laminated and sold for 5-10 bucks to cover the cost and im sure would help tons of people. I know you've done a video for all of that already but just being able to say "I want a rod reel combo to catch trophy bass on up to 1oz Spinner bait" it would be incredible for people to just be able to look at a chart and know exactly what would be best for that.

    I just re rigged my reel, and man what a difference. I went for a practice cast in the back yard, 3/16 texas rig setup, and ended up throwing it so far I had to climb a fence to retrieve it right. Headed to the pond in a bit to really see if I can get out to the weed line, I think I have s shot now. Thanks man!

    I know so many people who wont touch a baitcaster and say theyre junk because they either dont know how to use them or never cared to learn how to use them. I love them and use them most of the time unless im creek fishing,where a spinning setup works just fine. I sometimes use waterproof tape on mine instead of backing line,but either way works great. Good video for those beginners in baitcasters.

    I get why people use backing but I’m a bank angler and particularly use mono but it’s here recently I’m becoming a fan of fluorocarbon knowing now it sinks and knowing that you can get your baits a little deeper without the bend that mono has.
    Tyler, I think you’re doing a great job at teaching us all the spooling and techniques we need to know in using our bait castors. I think you should do a vid on when a person has their bait castor for a while and knowing when to adjust their breaking or tension if they still get backlashes.

    Yea, this video is over a year old, BUT STILL INFORMATIVE!! Great presentation, explanations and your enthusiasm is GREAT!! I own several Lew’s reels (BB1, BB1 Pro, BB1 Pro (with the P2 super pinion gear), Tournament Pro, Custom Black, Custom Pro, Super Duty, Tournament MB, Tournament MP, Custom Inshore and Speed Spool). By far, the Tournament MP, like yours in this video, was the most difficult for me to “dial-in” to find my sweet spot. As of right now, all 4 of the internal brakes are On and my dial is at 9 (10 being Max). All my other Lew’s reel dials are set to around halfway or a little less and if they have internal brakes, I have half On and half Off. If I turn the dial on my Tournament MP one click towards MIN and cast, I better be feathering the spool with my thumb or it’s gonna backlash. Not a bad backlash though, but enough that I need to pull out the slack line before I start reeling. However, this does not effect my dedication to Lew’s. I will always love and use their rods and reels. 😁👍

    Tyler - as someone who hasn’t done much bass fishing in the past, I have found your channel to be incredibly helpful, even better than TB given I’m a fellow north TX angler. I had a question on fluoro line - how do you keep your line “clean” after a day(s) fishing dirty and/or weedy water? I noticed my line will get a dirty (brown/green) look to it after some use which makes me concerned the fluoro is losing some of its effectiveness of being nearly invisible. It also just bothers me that it takes on that dirty look lol but maybe it doesn’t matter? Appreciate any tips you have on that! Keep up the great work my friend.

  • @tuloko16

    I do ut a bit different. It’s a bit more work, but i can be more accurate with how much braid i put on there. And it saves me money at the end.
    With the empty spool, i put exactly the lenght of braid i want on there. As little as 50 to 100 yards depending on the application. I’ll pull the line out and measure it by strtching it in a field or something.
    Then after the braid is on the reel, i tie the backing on, and spool it, until the reel is full.
    Now the backing is in top. To get it the correct way you’d have to spool it back into a separate reel is whatever contraption you come up with Twice before putting it into your reel. So you put it on the first spool and the braid will end up on top, you put it on the second one, and the braid will end up at the bottom and ready to go into the final reel.
    Or if you have space(like a field) just strip the line out, fip it and respool it.

    I have a question about the use of mono for backing. What are the advantages of using mono vs braid as a backing besides the price? I've read from others that you should use braid for backing because it' makes the spool lighter for a quicker start up. Which In turn I would guess to be more casting distance, but if you're using fluoro as your main line which is slicker, wouldn't that help with distance too? Great tip. Thank you for sharing

    • @TylersReelFishing
      @TylersReelFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can see how the braid would have a quicker startup, but the problem with braid as backing is that after a while, the pressure from the fluoro on top can cause the braid to form into grooves, which will work their way up the spool and EVENTUALLY, your line won’t spool back on flat during your retrieve

    Thanks for pointing me to your video Tyler. I am using relatively inexpensive mono so I am using it to fully spool, without backing. But I do now understand that I should fill it up which was my original question. Now, for a spinning reel, the direction of the reel is sideways so the "two toes" trick doesn't work. I have read to place it on the floor, with the label side down on the floor, and yes keep it tight against the rod to spool. Any good tips for spooling a spinning rod to avoid twists?

    • @TylersReelFishing

      @@TylersReelFishing the cost difference is significant but I am leaning towards it. I even practiced doing the FG knot on mono just to learn it eventually for a leader line. I did watch your video on it and will follow your advice if I go that route. It’s just a tough pill to swallow starting up and doing the initial investment. Now of course it doesn’t help I have to prep two rods. It’s about $80 just in braid and fluoro. My third cheap rod will remain with mono I am using that with a bobber anyways.

    • @toadiscoil
      @toadiscoil 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TylersReelFishing I ended up getting myself some braid. But I don't know if I got the 'correct' braid. I got Berkley Fireline 20lb but it's a bit sticky and it seems like it's decreasing my casting distance. Problem is it's expensive and of course I bought a 300 yard spool which is enough for the two reels I wanted to fill with braid. I didn't go the mono backing route, but with this amount of braid I can make it last a very long time if I eventually put mono backing on it. I read that Sufix braid is smoother and casts better but I will still give this Berkley a chance. To be honest I only tried it once on a single reel for about an hour or so. I am using fluoro leader and I followed your advice to make it as long as basically the length of the rod before the knot enters the spool. Still a lot to learn and I am also following your advice on tackle I will go on a trip next year to the store to prep for my fishing season and stock up. Thanks for all your helpful videos and I am enjoying the 'pond' series so far. Man I HAD to pick up this new hobby right at the end of the season.

    Question: Why is it necessary to use backing in the first place? Wouldn’t it be easier to just fill the entire spool with the line your going to be using?

    • @TylersReelFishing
      @TylersReelFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The bottom half of the spool never gets used cause you can’t even cast that far, so why waste that line as filler with expensive fluorocarbon?

      Well, I understand people doing it to save some money. After all, money doesn’t grow on trees. But if saving that extra 10 bucks or so worth of line is not that big of an issue, then I honestly don’t see any other reason for using it. But then again, I am no expert. I do like to fish though…That’s why I was interested.

    I’ve been casually fishing for years I’ve used spinning reels and button release. I’ve never used a bait caster. I don’t know much about bait or fish for that matter. Everyone I’ve seen have talked about bass with the bait caster. Is it made specifically for bass. Can you use it for cat, bluegill, etc. someone please fill me in

    Hey Tyler, when using 6lb mono line as your backing with a bigger heavier duty line for ex 15lb braid as your main, wouldn’t that not allow you to use more than 6lb of drag without breaking the line?

    • @TylersReelFishing
      @TylersReelFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The backing on bass fishing reels is only used to fill space, so that your expensive main line isn’t wasted down the spool. I’m never ever casting, or letting a fish take enough drag to get down to the 6lb backing. If I ever cast out past the connection knot, I didn’t put enough main line on there, or too much backing

    Need help understanding the backing ratio. I’m using 30 lb braid that is equivalent to 8 lb mono. So trying to figure out how much backing to use

    • @TylersReelFishing
      @TylersReelFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After a while, it kind of becomes second nature. Feeling the thickness of the line and knowing how much backing.
      For 30 pound braid, I would fill up the spool with 6 pound mono, to about 50% capacity
