Oh my, looks like I need to get some glitter paper.
Thank you for this video. Excellent tips! I do have a question about the electrostatic protective sheet. I noticed on both machines the sheet had a trace indentation of the pattern. Though it cut well, this would bother me to no end to constantly have each cut imaged on the sheet. It's like a mat you can never clean. My question is, Are these special sheets or just 12 by 12 plastic sheets I could easily replace when I want?
They are special sheets. I do not recommend alternatives. It's easily replaced, but it's perfectly normal for you to see the cut anytime you cut completely through a material, just like on a cutting mat.
The replacement protective sheets Cone 2 per pack and are not expensive.
And they last for a lot of cutting, unless the user cuts completely through it and that is 100% user error.
Here are the protective sheets - - Silhouette Protective Sheets - bit.ly/3SxWnmI affil
I don't recommend any hacks because if you damage the ES bed, that is more expensive than the protective sheets and it would be 100% on the user. Not a machine fault.
So far I have found that taping is necessary. I just ordered a replacement protective sheet. The brand name cutting mats sticks pretty well. I am a new user and have had damage to a cutting mat and protective mat. Worried about damaging the electrostatic bed.
PS: It seems that a debris tray may be a must.
Thank you so much. Can I cut 350gsm cardstock with this machine? Thank you.
I have cut 110 lb cardstock with the Curio 2. You'd have to test it with your cardstock.
Is es mat for cameo 5 hold the paper better than curio 2 esbed? Or both are the same?
Both the same - however, the biggest difference would be that the Curio 2, the ES bed is a stationary bed and does not move - the blade housing arm moves. On the Cameo 5 and Portrait 4, the ES bed moves back and forth, which could make a difference depending on what you are cutting, settings, material, etc.
@SilhouetteSecrets And between curio 2 vs cameo 5 which one is better at reading registration mark? I saw some people facing problem with failure reading the mark.
.
Since cameo 5 closed body machine and curio 2 open machine (no case around body), I wonder if it affect the sensor or light to reading the the mark (?)
Your reply will very helpful for me. Thank you.
@iremu6100 I have no issues with either machine reading the marks. A high majority of print and cut issues are due to the setup.
But, I have experienced that if you shine a bright light at the Curio 2, it can interfere with print and cut.
That can also happen with a Cameo as well. However, you'll see many mention it as a "solution."
Variable light sources can interfere with any print and cut on any machine model. Consistent, adequate lighting is what is best and full mat support.
