- Scarlet Deer Inn is a beautifully hand-crafted indie game inspired by Slavic folklore and medieval culture. Developed by the small but passionate team at Attu Games, this game combines gorgeous embroidery-style animation with riveting narrative set in atmospheric countryside. I recently played a demo for the game and wanted to share my impressions.
If this piqued your interest please support the developers, go wishlist the game on Steam and check out the demo for yourself: store.steampow...

We need more folkish games.
Yeah, there are some I want to make videos about in the future 🙂 And I would also love to make some point-and-click adventure game of my own at some point but that's just a dream for now.
Does pokemon count? Most of the Pokémon are based off of folk lore creatures.
@@somethingcraft3148Pokemon uses creatures from Japanese mythology but the universe of Pokemon is corpocroctic dystopia. Japanese myths are and Hayao Miyazaki 's stories are better because they have wisdom.
Making art assets with stitching feels like the complete opposite end of something like generating assets with AI, which is nice to see.
Thank you! We're happy you like it!
End of the Sun has premiere in November. It is a detectivistic game in which one plays as a priest of Slavic Gods and solves problems people have with ghosts. Demo already shows some awsome plot and atmosphere seems to be family friendly
Definitely buying this game to show my support to native Slavic culture
Thank you so much!
End of the Sun is also good title
@@AttuGames No worries =)
Děkujem moc a moc za krásnou zmínku
You channel has made me fall in love with the folklore and culture of slavs and eastern europe as a whole. Keep up the amazing work in a time where white folks are often said to have no "culture".
That's mostly a US thing. Courtesy of their color coded racial dynamic which was imbedded in much of their history.
That and their unfortunate tendency to talk out of their ass due to their lack of knowledge of any other country but their own.
What a gorgeous game. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Thank you!
The moment I saw the the game character pet the goose I went "This must be a Czech game" :) I can't wait for it to come out, it looks like a potential gem. Thakns for bringing it to my attention.
Yeah, it was the first thing I tried when I saw them 😃 You can pet sheep as well so 10/10 game 😁
Thank you! There will be even more animals to pet in the full game. :)
@@AttuGames Sounds fantastic!
The game looks beautiful.
Thank you for the video.
I'm glad you like it 🙂
Thank you!
That embroidery look is soooo lovely!
Thank you!
Loving the Pentiment inspiration and the setting
Thank you!
My husband and I straight away wishlisted it on Steam 🎉
Thanks for always sharing gems on your channel !👍
Thank you so much!
Looks like a beautiful and calming game. 👍
Thank you!
@@AttuGames Your welcome.
@@crusader2112
It won't be calming when you get further in the game. There's some horrifying folklore creature on the loose.
@@maninthecamohat2735 Still. The beginning looks nice.
Agreed, when I saw the trailer last month I was captivated, not just because of the Slavic narrative but also due to the art style which is just amazing 👌
Thank you!
It looks really good! I'm interested now.
Thank you!
I was looking for something that reminds me of my heritage, so ty folk walk for introducing me to this, it's looking chill and i can't wait to play it. Greeting from Croatia.
Thank you!
@@AttuGames no ty for crafting such an immersive and true experience for us to enjoy, i wishlisted this game on steam the second i saw this video.
p.s. any chance this is coming to gog? i like to have slavenic culture/background games there.
Wow, i love games with deep cultural influence and unique art style. This is right up my ally
It is also a huge inspiration, has some whos been dreaming about making games seeing cool projects like this
That's true, especially since the devs are self-taught 🙂
Thank you! And good luck with your projects!
From time to time I delve into game development and somehow this video alone made me like the idea of creating a game with Slavic theme. I'm Slovak and the way you presented love to our common folk and excitement about myths and creatures kindled a spark of love and interest in me too. Btw I really like Witcher too and I've played KCD and the love to folk they've presented was beautiful too :)
I'm glad I was able to motivate you 🙂 I’ve been working on my own Slavic fantasy for a few years now, but I don’t have much time for it because of making videos, so it's still in the early stages. However, I think the concept is good, interesting, and relatively original (though I was partly inspired by The Witcher). In any case, it will be mostly inspired by Czech folklore (and probably Slovak as well). My main focus is to write lore books for it, but one day, I’d love to collaborate with someone who creates games and maybe put together a point-and-click adventure set in that world. If that interests you and you'd like to try creating something with me, let me know 😉 Other than that, a Slovak indie game I’d recommend keeping an eye on is Scribe RPG from Rawmeat. It’s not finished yet, but it looks interesting.
@@FolkWalkCZ Great you're working on something of your own too. As far as it goes with gamedev I'm in the stage of learning the ropes, but when I'll feel ready for some collaboration, I'll remember you :) Btw regarding point-and-click adventures I really liked Czech game called Posel Smrti. It was really atmospheric and I'd say artistic too.
Interesting, It is putted to the waiting list on steam :)
Thank you so much!
It'll be my first platform game since the original Mario and I'm really looking forward to it!
Thank you!
Unfortunately I've forgotten the name of the film but: there is a vampire film that has no music, it's all just noises. The film is from somewhere in that corner of the world where you are from and I loved it. I can still remember the scene where they come down a snowy hill. You can't hear anything except the wind whistling, not even the snow because they're still too far away. Given that I am an embroider myself (but not traditional), the game is a must have for me
Thank you so much!
Hey folk walk I know this sounds cheesy but I genuinely wanted to thank you for your channel and your talks about Slavic folklore or just folklore in general. Not only did it get me into Slavic folklore more (I'm American but my grandpa was Russian) but it also got me into learning more folklore about my home state of Michigan. (The one that looks like a mitten when you look at a map of the United States) and we have a lot of similar fairy tales and folklore that's kind of reminds me of European which makes sense because Michigan used to be part of France before it became part of the United States. We also have a lot of interesting haunted places in Michigan to that I never knew about and started to read up on. The long story short I never knew how deep the lore and folktales go in my state and I would have never known if it wasn't for the fact that you had this channel that inspired me to want to dig more into folktales. Again I say thank you.
Comments like this motivate me to keep going, so thank you very much for the appreciation. I’m glad that my content has sparked your interest in folklore 🙂
@@FolkWalkCZ
Another thing I learned about Michigan is its civil War culture. I've always been a fan of civil War history. But never knew how big the civil War culture is in Michigan. We have the biggest reenactment event in the United States. And the reason why that is in Michigan specifically is because during the civil War many michiganders volunteers to fight against the South during that time. And over 15,000 Michiganders died during the war. So it's in a way to respect our ancestors. Kind of reminds me of what the Czech Republic does when they do massive reenactments of medieval battles. But ours is just a civil war version.
@@maninthecamohat2735Yup. It is very weird how nationalism made people in USA so detatched not only from their ancestors but also history of their region. For instance very few remeber that California used to be a Russian colony once
@@finezyjnafantazja2495
I mean I knew about somethings in Michigan folklore because me and my family used to go to an event that was set in colonial times and the talk about history, do revolutionary war reenactments and talk about folklore but once I started to actually get more into folklore I never knew how much we had.
Such a cool game. Thanks for the recommendation! Wishlisted and a 100% buy.
If you need more ideas for the channel, for my part, I would love to see more content on the tradition of storytelling, myths etc. Why do humans tell stories in that manner? The structure and content of children's stories are specially interesting, because they also reflect what children find attractive (comprehend well) and the topics that adults wanted to convey to the children (dangers, morals, good behavior etc). This is more of an anthropological lens and I understand that it might be a more academic than you would like.
Truth be told, I’ve been planning a video on a very similar topic for a while now. It’s going to be about whether fairy tales should be scary and morbid. I recently decided that it's finally the right time to tackle it, so I’ve begun preparing it, and I’d like to release it next month. This month, I want to make a one more video that should be about why Czechs love fairy tales and folklore, which is somewhat similar to what you're writing about I'd say. However, I doubt that the videos will be very academic. Even though I’d love to spend a lot of time researching and creating something at an academic level, there’s unfortunately not enough time for that because TH-cam demands that people post as many videos as possible, as frequently as possible. The longer it takes me to make a new video, the more the algorithm reduces the reach of my future videos. So I try to make as many videos as quickly as I can in my free time, and I take the approach that done is better than perfect.
@@FolkWalkCZ I was unaware of how the algorithm works. As long as you are happy with the quality and content of your videos! I, for my part, am already happy if sources are provided, as you do in many cases anyways. Thanks in any case!.
Thank you so much!
Na hru se těším, větší radost ale mám z toho, že budou další videa o vědmákovi :)
Děkujeme a souhlasíme. Těch není nikdy dost. :)
4:47 oh hey! I own that book too!
Took me about 30 seconds into this video to head to steam and download the demo.
Not a video game, but a year back or so I purchased a board game, Forest of Radgost, both to have a game to introduce role playing games to my daughter as well as to get another venue of slavic mythology and lore. We like it quite a bit, though she's still a little under the age recommendation, so I suspect it will be even more fun in a few years. Have you seen it? I think it would be very cool to see you review it.
No, I haven't but I'll definitely look it up. Thanks for the recommendation 🙂
Thank you so much! We hope you enjoyed it! :)

Black Book

You gotta talk about The Thaumaturge by The Fool's Theory and published by 11bit. It is such a good fantasy game set in 1905 Warsaw.
I'll look into it 🙂
Game looks amazing, definitely will check it out on the release. Do we know something when it will be released? Or is it only early build of the game?
I'm not sure. They haven't revealed the release date yet. That's why I recommend wishlisting it so you can see when it releases. Or you can follow them on their social media profiles because they'll definitely share it there 😉
Thank you! Sometime next year. We don't know the exact date yet. :)
@@AttuGames I will wishlist it once I am at home. Trzymam kciuki!
What do you think of Thorgal comic series?
I'm hoping that only the American part of CD Projekt Red's studios will be affected by DEI and the Polish one that's working on the Witcher will be spared. Hopefully both studios will get rid of it though.
Yeah, I hope too but there have been several red flags (most people don't even know about some of them) so I'm sceptical. I'm wondering if I should make a video about my doubts at some point where I would explain all that worries me. We'll see.
I wouldn't get my hopes up buddy. We saw it with Sony recently, because those guys have main HQ in Japan yet the California branch is calling the shots and screwing up everything they can. Also CD Projekt Red is public trade company and BlackRock bought their way in and implemented their DEI agenda alongside their ESG scores. So even if they didn't want it, they have no other choice than to cater to the "modern audience" now.
@@FolkWalkCZu definetly should put a light to it! It would be definetly a vid with higher number of views.

looks good but i got stuck in the cellar so I gave up, timers + obscure platforms is great for feeling but makes game hard in a bad way.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean. If you're talking about the cellar in the beginning, you just need to go left and there you'll find the wine/mead for the neighbor. If you're talking about the mines later in the demo I can't help you there but I usually found a way fairly quickly and navigating them seemed pretty easy for me.
@@FolkWalkCZ Just watched the end of the game after i gave up. It makes you wonder why it wasnt an animated feature. Played Pillars of the Earth? That game also gives that feeling.

I haven’t, but it sounds interesting 🙂 Are you sure it's called Reja? I tried googling it but couldn’t find anything. Which studio is it supposed to be from? I know about is Yaga from Breadcrumbs Interactive, I’ve been wanting to make a video about that game for a really long time.
