Yeah I agree. No one should thumbs down this guy. He's not just a ford tech, he's a experienced ford tech. And I can tell he know his stuff. Thanks to him I changed my cam phasers. In my 5.4 Thanks dude cheers great videos.
Damn dude, I need to replace the cam phasers on my 2010 F150 5.4 but I'm somewhat concerned by it, did you find it difficult to do it? any thought or advice?
I replaced air intake manifold on my F150 and most everything on the top of my engine by watching one of his 45 minute videos. I have learned a ton from him.
You're lucky. My motor blew and had to replace the transmission, then brain.. just did the outer differential this week and I need the AC looked at. POS imo
Hey man, I just want to thank you for the years of education you’ve given me! I own an 89’ Mustang GT and a 2004 F150 with the 5.4. You’ve absolutely saved my butt and saved me $ more than I can count and that’s very important for a 1 income father of 2. You’ve given me the confidence to tackle almost any issue I’ve had with all of our rigs. Many many thanks for the years to come as well!
I have worked on cars and trucks for over 45 years as a shade tree mech. Always was looking thinks up in Chilton's etc. Really love on line videos but these are the best I have watched. Thank you for making my life easier. I agree with Roland Selkirk, you would make a great teacher. (I was a pastor/teacher for over 30 years, you do a great job teaching.)
I remember Chilton books from 25 years ago looking and reading though them with my dad, and doing most of the reading to him cause he be having problems with his reading glasses, good old days lol, miss you dad rip
Thank you very much Johnny , my local mechanic estimated it for over $1000 , now because of your movie I ll spend around $200 for the part , and replace it by myself , thank you again.
Thanks for a very well done explanation. I ran into a couple of things worth mentioning while doing this job on my 2012 F150 STX so here's a heads up for anyone else following the guide. First of all, make sure you have all the metric impact sockets called for. I didn't have the necessary 18mm or 8mm in my set and had to make a trip to the parts store to buy sockets in the middle of the job. Second, the big caliper bolts were installed with RED locktite that just laughed at my impact wrench. I had to heat the bolts to break them loose. Third, I saved a ton of money by getting the assembly from Amazon. Their "this does/does not fit your vehicle" guide worked perfectly for me.
Detailed explanation on the process - very much appreciated. I replaced one on my 2004 Ford F150 yesterday - it was a breeze. One thing to note - if you choose to not disconnect the outer tie rod end, you will need a short 18MM socket for the 4 bolts holding the wheel hub assembly on. Also, a flat file worked nicely to clean up the mating surface. If you own a Ford you absolutely need to subscribe to this channel. Thanks FordTechMakuloco - you're awesome!
If you guys are not posted this video, I would not have been able to do my wheel bearings tonight. Total lifesaver made it so simple and understandable
Awesome Brian, thanks, just finished up the job today! I had my iPad on the hood of my truck, following the video step by step to make sure I didn't miss anything, including the dust cover ;) The only thing that i had to figure out myself was how to disconnect the ABS hose, but no big deal. You gotta love TH-cam and people like you that make life easier!
I don't feel so bad now when I end up with "spare parts" when I replace something. It's good to know that even a professional can sometimes forget. Love your videos Brian! I'm changing out my hub on my Expedition and your video gives me confidence that its a job I can handle.
How could anyone give this thumbs-down? Awesome video! Very well explained and professionally done. You really do a great job on your videos and I appreciate it very much. It was extremely helpful that you explained the symptoms of bad bearings. Left me with no doubt that mine were shot. This is the second video of yours that saved me a boat-load of money enabling me to doing it myself instead of taking it to a stealership. YOU ROCK!!!! Subscribed.
just came back from a trip and after my truck was sitting for 4 days took it on a ride on the highway about 10 miles and on the way up there i had a bad pulsation that came and lasted like 15 seconds and then went away . i got nervous and decided to take the back roads home and when i was about a mile away i could smell something burning . i get home and my whole drivers side front tire was smoking and so hot to the touch i burnt my hand on the rim ..... just jacked the truck up today and when spinning the wheel feels likes the inner bearing is gone ... grinds when spinning like metal on metal sound and the truck just had a break job done like 6k ago .... checked the other side and same thing but not as bad ..... looks like i will being doing both this weekend..... womp womp.........
I just finished changing out the wheel bearing myself for the first time on my 2013 f150. I had no trouble at all thanks to your instruction. thank you!
Because of Brian and his TH-cam channel I have been able to fix a numerous Ford F-150 and Expedition and Lincoln Navigators that I own because of him the timing phaser job is not hard at all follow his step by step for Park program and you got it whipped 180000 on 1 and still going all I did was timing components once again Brian you're the best we appreciate you down here in Florida
He is my #1resource for Ford information I love this guy's work ethic and accuracy he is very caring of the work he performs shows you any short cuts that save time
Awesome video man. I replaced my hub/wheel bearing on my 2006 Ford Expedition with the help of this video. I could not have done it without your help. Side note, with a Expedition the outer tie rod end doesn't come off just by loosening the nut. It has a hex lock nut on there so I panicked for a minute until I found another video of yours explaining how to remove (thank you again!!). Also, my brake caliper has a clip in it so it is not easily compressed. The clip has to be taken off and then the caliper can be compressed and then you have to take off the caliper holding bracket (not sure if that's the correct name), then the rotor can come off. Just to note some of the differences between Expedition and F150. I appreciate all your help and subscribed! "Somethin' like that"
Luke can you post those videos here. I have a 2006 as well and im getting ready to try to tackle this job. Thanks. oh also did you have to tighten them back to all those same torque specs?
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you. My 2007 F150 sits on 37's, so it's time to replace the hubs. Crazy how much rust you had to deal with. I live in the desert so it's something we fortunately don't have to worry about as much.
Can tell this is one if your older videos. Your quality is way better in your videos now but still a cool topic . Also you look younger, amazing what 5 years will do to a guy lol.
Just wanted to let everyone know that the bearing listed at the Amazon link fits F-150's made after 11/28/2004 (so a 2005 model made in late 2004 would fit). If you have a 2004 or 2005 model made before 11/28/2004, you will need Moog part number MOOG-515046 instead. I'm not sure what the difference is (they look the same in the pictures) but there are different part numbers for before and after the date mentioned. I am so glad to have found this video...I have a bearing on order and will replace it this weekend. I have an early 2004 model so I need the 515046 bearing. Thanks FordTechMakuloco for all of your detailed videos!!
At 8:14 is that the only place we need to grease? Ill be doing a wheel bearing assembly and a cv axle so I'm wandering if I also need to grease up the spindle end of the cv axle where it goes into the wheel bearing assembly.
Another fine video for all of us Ford fanatics. Hope you'll be doing a coolant flush instructional on an Ecoboost F150 as my baby is coming up on that pretty soon. One of the best channels on youtube IMHO.
Just replaced the drivers front on my Wife’s 2012 Expedition which threw a wheel sensor /ABS code and the bearing was junk after 170k miles. Great video as always!
I noticed before I let the vehicle down from the lift, that is why I put the parts I removed neatly to the side so I can look around and check before the vehicle leaves.
Wow, one more video to save in my Ford youtube folder. Mr. FordTechmakuloco, you are an excellent teacher. Thank you for making all these great videos!
Solid demo and good info, Makuloco! I love seeing the die grinder used. Sign of a professional technician. Don't think I saw the backing plate replaced though before the rotor and caliper assembly got put on and buttoned up... Likely edited out b/c it's assumed. How many enthusiasts and certified techs alike, have had to go back and undo your hard work just to replace something overlooked or forgotten? I know it's happened to me! Be that guy who actually goes back and puts it on rather than leaving it off! The guy who says, "it's fine" - I don't want that guy near me. Makes us all look bad!
Great video! Very clear and easy to follow. Ordered mine online and replaced them last night (rotors and brakes too!) with the help of this video. You saved me a lot of $$$ by doing it myself. Thank you for taking the time to make this video! VERY helpful.
Do you have throw some high temp grease in there if you have a 2wd f150? Looking at doing my front driver side within the next week or 2 and just curious if I'll need to go pick some up
Thanks for the video! I cant believe how easy this wheel bearing replacement was! Just like the video the assembly was removed by hand with no hammering, prying or my normal knocking out a stud and using a nut and bolt to pull it out.
Yeah man thanks to you for your videos, especially on the 5.4 3V engines. Your videos have helped me through my cam phasers and timing chains. I’ve also done coils and plugs on my f150, I couldn’t have done it without the help. Thanks for the help
Great video! I have a 2006 expedition, the check advancetrac light came on and abs light. So I lifted her up to check the hubs and I have a bad hub passenger side. Could this be why the check advancetrac light came on?
So i put everything back into place and ended up putting too much torque on that center nut and it just keeps spinning! I didn't even use a torque wrench. I was using a 1/2" socket and a socket wrench and now when I try to back the nut out to replace it, it just keeps spinning. Does anyone have any advice on how to get this nut removed? I picked up a tool set at Advanced Auto: Bolt removal extractor set, which I inherently knew would not work, but at 8:30 at night, I was desperate. So basically I am trying to figure out a way to back this nut out since it seems to keep spinning, it is not rounded off, but I believe the actual nut threads have been stripped on the inside, which is why it keeps spinning. Any ideas would greatly be appreciated. Thank you, Chris oh its on a 2007 F150 King Ranch 4wd. It is the exact same setup that this gentleman is working on in this video.
So my neighbor tells me that I could have used a tiny punch tool to break the nut off. Just use a punch or a chisel and a hammer very carefully and it'll break the nut. Just posting this in case someone else needs the help as well.
Hi....Could you please tell me if you can only replace the bad bearing on one side or do you have to change out both. Also do you need to do a wheel aligment after removing the ty rod. ..Thank you very much for you time to make these videos.
On the tie rod end that is mounted to the knuckle, does it face with the threads going up or down? I keep seeing with the threads pointing up or but your video showed differently… need help please! Thank you!
if even you can forget to put the dust shield cover, then i feel better now 😂 amazing videos, really well done, thanks, i own my ford fx4 since 2007 bough it on the dealer and really needed a channel like this. From Venezuela thank you.
I'm taking it my Expedition in for service... I expect exactly this. I will be showing the Ford Tech this video. This is the standard. This guy super pro. Wish he was in Cincinnati.
It looks like you're okay with using Moog aftermarket parts? Timken too? Ever mess with some of the cheaper parts you can find on ebay? I think I've got a front bearing on the way out. At 20-30 mph I can hear a pulsing hum coming from a wheel.
Fantastic video. I just picked up a 99 Expedition, 4x4 with bad right-front bearings. Is it the same procedure for this model and what you are doing here? thanks
I have an 05 F150 with the 8200# payload package. Front drivers wheel bearing grenaded a few months ago. I replaced with Autozone hub with 1 year warranty. It lasted 3 weeks...and grenaded also. ABS light came on and next day I heard a pop...same as when it happened before and within 30 feet it was undriveable...extreme grinding crunching noise. I took it back and got a warranty replacement. this one same thing but lasted a month and a half. I am currently upgrading to a Moog hub. Is there something else going on here? Any ideas..everything else seems good.. Thanks
Very informative, well done. At certain times disconnecting the electrical connections are a nightmare when not shown in the videos. It would be very educational to do a video on connectors.
Bro thank you for making this video. I watched your video and I replaced the bearing and wheel assembly on my f150 with no problems following your guidance. Thank you again your awesome
Although it does not address it specifically, can I assume that this is essentially the same for a 2wd/RWD with the omission of the half shaft related and greasing portions?
So my ABS/traction control faulted on my 2009 F150 platinum w 250k a couple months ago. Was doing research, dreading having to pull out the brake ECM and do the whole solder job that was most likely the culprit, so i kept procrastinating.. Then I pulled out my drive 3 days ago and a bad intermittent grind started coming from front right. Turned around immediately and drove the 300ft back into my drive. Jacked up, yep vertical and horizontal movement like crazy with the hub, bad wheel bearing. Bought the part, 2WD model so no axle or need to remove a ball joint. Couple whacks came right out. Once back together, also cleared the ABS/traction control fault. Interesting that ABS warned me before the noise did. $238 fix. I'll replace the other side next weekend just in case. If one side went bad, other side probably not far behind. Thank you for the how-to videos!
Love all your videos. I myself am looking into becoming a tech. Probably a stupid question but does it matter the color of the grease? Just want to make sure I get the right stuff and the people at the big box stores are as smart as my door knobs.
My mechanic says that the vaccuum hubs on my four wheel drive Expedition are going... is this the same process to fix them (if fixable)? My car has been making a kind of grinding/ clicking noise for awhile now.... Thanks for any help...
Hello! Great video. However, I replaced the drivers side front bearing/hub assembly on my 13 f150. Everything went smooth. Drove it about a week and suddenly abs light, hill descent control fault, brake light, and check brake system warnings all came up on dash. Is this a common occurrence or is it coincidence that abs module went bad same time as bearing assembly? Could it be a bad sensor or do you have to reset it after installing? Anything helps! Thank you!
I’ve got a 2016 Expedition. It’s a very similar install. I did a new bearing this morning. The humming noise I have in 2wd or 4wd didn’t go away. Ive done new rotors, pads, caliper, and axle bearing. Do you have any other suggestions? I don’t get the deep grind like I hear in other videos but I do have a constant humming noise and a little grind when going slow.
When the bearing goes out does it always make a grinding noise? I have been dealing with a rough ride on my 2013 f150 and have replaced UBJ, LBJ, inner and outer tie rods, strut assemblies , cv axles and tried two sets of tires. I have not done wheel bearings and it has 105k on it here in Texas. At highway speeds it is a bouncy/rough ride especially when the wheel is partially turned. At all speeds I feel like I get a lot of vibration through the steering wheel and sometimes feels like the steering column moves very slightly due to vibration.
Great video... I went to use this on my 2005 F150 2WD and mine doesnt look any close to the version in your video. Any ideas? I already purchased what I thought was going to work...hope they take returns! Mine has about an 1 1/2 inch nut in place of the 13mm for the center hub. Mine also does not have the four mounting bolts. Did not take apart yet because it was obvious mine didnt match...
Great video, please help me I can not disconnect the abs connector!!! My truck is a 2012 f150 ecoboost,I have long time trying to dont destroy the conectors, looks like ford make a trap to make the amateur mechanic destroy the conectors trying to unplug it,I think the car in the video is not a ford f150 2012 ecoboost I find out in the video the screws are differente size,my connector is under the hood in a really difficult position, whats the trick to disconect,do I need a especial tool, thanks?
I have this issue presently. I discovered it while doing a front brake job. Will a bad bearing/ hub trip the ABS light??? My ABS trips first thing upon driving pedal pulses until the dash ABS light comes on, then stop but light stays on? Could the bad hub be doing this or do I have another issue?
First off I wanna say thank you for all the help you’ve been on the multiple Issues I’ve had to deal with on my 2004 F150 lariat 5.4 I need to put wheelbearings on it now But when I clicked on your link to see what you use in the video it says it doesn’t fit on Amazon can you please send me the best wheelbearing number to put on the front of my truck
Have you heard of problems with aftermarket wheel hub bearings effecting electric power steering and the power steering wont work? Something about the sensor not reading properly ?
Hey boss I have been having some shaking/ jumpy vibration only when braking on my 2014 ford f150... I assumed it was brakes...nope... Also replaced the rotors and its still happening... You think it could be the wheel bearings? Im a female in my 40s and can usually do things myself ( my late father was a mechanic so im pretty comfortable under a vehicle) I often get screwed when going to shops... Help!!
First off, thank you for your great videos!! i had a humming noise at times, discovered a vacuum leak of the hose to the hub and fixed it - that got rid of the noise. I noticed that this wheel is not spinning as freely as the other side, but no noises while turning by hand. While driving there is still a slight knocking noise that increases with speed, is it possible to originate from the hub? Would you recommend changing the hub, or maybe even the wheel bearing? Vehicle is a 2012 F150 Thanks in advance.
I have a question and I hope you can help me with, I'm trying to remove the radius arm on a 1999 E-150 Ford van. What size wrench or socket do I need to remove it. I have tried a 1 1/8 and its a little bit too small. Can you tell me what is the right size socket or wrendh I should use? Thank you Holly
Would replacing the hub bearings with lots of grease correct an issue I am having: Basically in colder temperatures I hear rubbing sound from the from wheels. When I place the truck in 4x4 it goes away. I have already tried replacing the IWE solenoid and check have, but no change with the issue. Now that the temps are colder, I am hearing the rubbing noise again. I have a 2013 F 150
Do you have a video for the 2005 F 150 2 WD ? A mechanic told me it was common to use the 4wd hub assembly as a replacement. Seemed incorrect to me. I don't see the 2wd hubs for sale. Even on rockauto. I just wanted to change my wheel bearing out as I have 170k miles on my truck. Thank you
I am curious as to why you had to remove the caliper from the rotor? Could you not just leave them together and set the whole assembly aside? Is there a reason that is not a good idea?
Yeah I agree. No one should thumbs down this guy. He's not just a ford tech, he's a experienced ford tech. And I can tell he know his stuff. Thanks to him I changed my cam phasers. In my 5.4

Changed both front hubs no problems didn’t even have to use air impact. 2010 F 150 4/4 XLT 4.6 liter 3V. Thanks for the video
Just did this to my 2014 f 150. Video was a life saver.
I wish I could find a mechanic like this locally; I wouldn't need to work on my vehicles anymore.
Yeah man thanks to you for your videos, especially on the 5.4 3V engines. Your videos have helped me through my cam phasers and timing chains. I’ve also done coils and plugs on my f150, I couldn’t have done it without the help. Thanks for the help
Doing my hub bearing today.
Thanks again Brian.
I'd buy you a beer if I could.
I did buy a tee shirt though.
I am preparing to do bearing replacement on my 05 expedition, thanks to this video i will only spend 200 tops.
Good work buddy !
Local tire shop wants to charge me 1000 bucks to do both sides. You just saved me a ton of money...
Awesome video. I'm about to change the bearings on my 05 Expedition and you just made it look extremely easy. Thanks again.
Is the rear wheel bearing the same process as what you have done here for the front?
Thanks again for several awesome videos.
No it is totally different.
Great video! I have a 2006 expedition, the check advancetrac light came on and abs light. So I lifted her up to check the hubs and I have a bad hub passenger side. Could this be why the check advancetrac light came on?
What brand/model of grease do you recommend for packing the bearing with
I only use this grease for packing bearings- amzn.to/2SKQGj0
Thank you, Chris
oh its on a 2007 F150 King Ranch 4wd. It is the exact same setup that this gentleman is working on in this video.
So my neighbor tells me that I could have used a tiny punch tool to break the nut off. Just use a punch or a chisel and a hammer very carefully and it'll break the nut. Just posting this in case someone else needs the help as well.
Thanks for the video and the torque specs. It sure makes the job a lot easier to review the process before doing the work. Thanks again.
Thank you!
Thank you for all these videos. It has saved me hundreds if dollars over and over again.
This guy is the best ford tech in the world
I think you forgot to put back the plate guard..
BAGUIOSITE No I did it in the end it was in my cart my failsafe.
Yes you forgot the plate
Yes he did
Yes... You forgot. But it's okay bro we all forget stuff.
if even you can forget to put the dust shield cover, then i feel better now 😂 amazing videos, really well done, thanks, i own my ford fx4 since 2007 bough it on the dealer and really needed a channel like this. From Venezuela thank you.
Dumb question. Do you have car in neutral with ignition turned to accessory so you can turn the wheel bearing freely like you do in this video?
Hubs are not engaged and the tie rod is off so nothing to hinder it.
Eric Haun thanks good sir
Eric Haun when the truck is not running, the hubs are engaged. The vacuum hose unlocks the hubs when the engine is running.
+DrZazzoo I choose Ford or Timken first depending on price and then Moog is my next choice.
+FordTechMakuloco Thanks. I respect the heck out of what you do.
Thanks
Yeah. That junk comes from China. Buy Motorcraft stuff from USA.
How do you take the old wheel bearing hub off the rotor??????? Mine is not budging! Need to finish this project tomorrow.
Very informative, well done. At certain times disconnecting the electrical connections are a nightmare when not shown in the videos. It would be very educational to do a video on connectors.
Is it best to replace both sides when you do this job? SO both front wheel bearings wear evenly?
are there torque specs for the TIE Rod?
Bro thank you for making this video. I watched your video and I replaced the bearing and wheel assembly on my f150 with no problems following your guidance. Thank you again your awesome
Although it does not address it specifically, can I assume that this is essentially the same for a 2wd/RWD with the omission of the half shaft related and greasing portions?
No...check the torque specs
Question. I just did mine with duralast 6 months ago. They are both bad and wobblely already. Is oem that much better?
I would go Timken!
Thanks. Your videos are a great help!@@FordTechMakuloco
Love all your videos. I myself am looking into becoming a tech. Probably a stupid question but does it matter the color of the grease? Just want to make sure I get the right stuff and the people at the big box stores are as smart as my door knobs.
What do you think about using a grinder to knock down that rust ridge on the rotor? I don't mean go crazy, just a light grinding.
My mechanic says that the vaccuum hubs on my four wheel drive Expedition are going... is this the same process to fix them (if fixable)?
My car has been making a kind of grinding/ clicking noise for awhile now....
Thanks for any help...
Joseph Barry Yes 2003 and newer.
He’s got a video for diagnosing those vacuum hub issues now... in case it’s not the hubs
When replacing the bearing, do you have to disengage the 4x4? What do you need to do to ensure that no damage is done to the IWE?
When the bearing goes out does it always make a grinding noise? I have been dealing with a rough ride on my 2013 f150 and have replaced UBJ, LBJ, inner and outer tie rods, strut assemblies , cv axles and tried two sets of tires. I have not done wheel bearings and it has 105k on it here in Texas. At highway speeds it is a bouncy/rough ride especially when the wheel is partially turned. At all speeds I feel like I get a lot of vibration through the steering wheel and sometimes feels like the steering column moves very slightly due to vibration.
What are your thoughts on the iwe delete? I’ve been tossing around the idea of it so I don’t have to worry about the vacuum any more.
Quick question. Ford CL3Z-1104-M vs CL3Z-1104-K difference is just the studs correct? M is for non tow package & K is for the tow Package correct?
I have this issue presently. I discovered it while doing a front brake job. Will a bad bearing/ hub trip the ABS light??? My ABS trips first thing upon driving pedal pulses until the dash ABS light comes on, then stop but light stays on? Could the bad hub be doing this or do I have another issue?
How about a intermittent steering wheel shake on a 2005 Expedition ? Any suggestions on where to start looking ?
Should there be any play in that inner gear? Mine moves pretty freely.
yes
Thanks for the quick reply. Really appreciate your videos.
I have a 2010 f150 5.4l what front wheel bearing do I need. Some show a tone ring and some don't and both have abs
No
Hey boss
I have been having some shaking/ jumpy vibration only when braking on my 2014 ford f150...
Vehicle is a 2012 F150
Thanks in advance.
Doner Kebab I would not suspect a hub no I would still suspect that the IWE has been damaged.
FordTechMakuloco
Sorry, i meant the vacuum actuator hub (= IWE, right?). Thanks for your feedback!
Doner Kebab yes
Thank you
Bill Bethel bought my rotor and hub assembly at oreilys 70 each with bearings Installed for 2005 f150 2wd just don't forget new axel/spindle nuts
I am curious as to why you had to remove the caliper from the rotor? Could you not just leave them together and set the whole assembly aside? Is there a reason that is not a good idea?
