their chemistry is so adorable...can't believe i just discovered this show. in the books, watson gets married...wish this show would have continued to see how they played that out. love these two so much!
It so funny that seeing the early Watson is against the idea of training, not just this but even the next episode thinking it is redundant yet she become quite a fighter in later seasons able to hold her own even against trained fighters.
What I just realized is that part of Sherlock’s insistence on Watson learning self-defense stems from his trauma of Irene’s “death” 2 years ago. Joan is the closest he’s been with someone since Irene, and the thought of Joan also getting hurt because of what he does for a living is unbearable since he would be reliving the trauma that sent him spiraling into drug addiction. So Sherlock, being Sherlock, resolves to avoid the same thing happening again by any means necessary.
The Cumberbatch/Freeman version is even more toxic imho...both come very close to co-dependency. Any version of Watson will always put the needs of others before their own. In Doyle's original stories, Watson is both a doctor and a soldier: both are professions in which one serves the needs of others, sometimes at great cost to oneself...
@@Galvion1980 I definitely agree! It's funny how this one instance is deemed "toxic" but BBC's sherlock has john being treated like crap or like a doormat by sherlock then has the writers keep telling us more than showing us he's actually useful to sherlock and that sherlock actually cares about him. Comparatively you see in this very same video how Joan doesn't take Sherlock's crap, learns and then turns the lesson back on him. Mind you, he never does something like that again and their relationship visibly grows closer and continues to put the both of them on equal footing Sherlock's deduction skills be damned.
@@meiday154 Wholeheartedly agreed! BBC's Sherlock was fortunate to have such amazing actors and great cinematogaphy to disguise and distract from its poor writing and plotting, not to mention its rather misogynistic elements. Elementary is so much more feminist, having both a female hero in Watson and a female villain in Moriarty who are fully rounded, human characters with stengths and weaknesses and minds of their own..BBC's Sherlock treated its female characters appallingly...
She is patient because she knows Sherlock would never actually hurt her, and learning from him is by far the best way for her to become a great detective. Sherlock loves her like a younger sister at this point, but of course he wouldn't admit it....yet.
One of the things love about Elementary, their relationship evolution started as companion > peers > friend > partner in crime.
> two people that love each other
I always found these scenes funny because Lucy Liu is a trained Martial Artist in real life, lol :-P
I love his face when she throws the locks over. 😆

She was standing RIGHT BY THE FUCKING DOOR! Why not try to run out!
That moment she threw the ball had the same energy as Wilson filing House's cane down when they became roommates

Why is she so pacient ? This version of Sherlock and Watson is very toxic at least for her.
