CATCHING MY LIMIT OF CRAYFISH!! (50+ YEAR OLD CRAYFISH???) KINA FORESTS, FATHER SON DIVE

  • In this episode of Kai down under me and my son Ryder take the stabicraft out on the Moana to harvest some Kai.
    Ryder takes his diving to another level hitting a 7mtr freedive and adds an extra weight to his belt.
    I shoot a couple of Blue moki, a couple of Blue cod and wrangle in my limit of crayfish. The kina is plentiful and we were treated with some pretty good vis.
    There is some bonus footage at the end of the video of an old crayfish I estimate to be over 50yrs of age, we ended up letting him go bacj to Tangaroa
    All and all it was an awesome evening dive making memories with my Son
    Thanks for watching guys

Most areas are like this down south, but there aren't a lot of divers that Adventure deep or get easy access to these areas.
      They're definitely abundant though and we all know how kina Barron's can devastate a reef, that's why I never feel guilty about taking my share😋😋

      Yeah for sure bro, I knew this.
      The big boy we released back was actually going to come home with us, I caught him I'm about 5m depth right below our boat and chucked him on the deck once I broke the surface with him.
      Thought he was just your average big buck. It wasn't untill about 30mins later when we finished the dive and I examined him that I realized just how old and special he was so I thought we would at least give him a chance of survival, I'm pretty sure he was blind to begin with anyway because he didn't even see me coming or feel out for me😂😂 old bugger

    BigJohn Desilva (may he rest in peace) always taught us not too leave our kina shells in the ocean, how would you feel if your neighbours got smashed up into pieces and just left there, would you still live in the vicinity.

    • @kaidownunder7870
      @kaidownunder7870  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kina is not a sentient being and feel nothing, they do not experience consciousness, but that's not to say that they don't deserve respect which I do give to them...it is non sensical to treat them as if they know they have 'neighbours' but I understand the mentality some have to carry on their traditions.....And as far as I'm concerned it wouldnt be a bad thing if the kina did leave the vicinity...they are a pest (a tasty one) that destroys the reef and creates a Barron environment making it harder for other less populated species to survive. Smashing up those 15 or so Kina baited in some nice blue cod that fed my family and I don't regret it one single bit😄
      I have a great respect for the Moana
      And comments like this just turn me in to a more thoughtful hunter gatherer.
      Take care💯
