Finally back online with another Kai down Under adventure, I've been incognito for a while working in the desert and transitioning my family from NZ to AUS.
I think the title of this video explains itself, in this episode I dive a supposedly haunted shipwreck that has been resting on the reefs north of Perth for the past 60 years. Things don't go to plan but the dive is still a success.

Mate, you might want to check the rules on spearguns. Last time I was in that area I thought I saw signs prohibiting their use. I may be wrong, but the penalties are quite severe. Otherwise, it's a nice swim but visibility is usually fairly poor. There is a nice surf break a few hundred meters further out. Also every time I surfed the offshore reef I saw a tiger shark and I surfed there a lot in the 90's.
You need a license to get Cray's and there is a season too.

Daunting thing was I heard there was a 5mtr great white spotted in that exact spot the day before this dive. You Aussie folk are a different breed diving with all these sharks!! Respect

The little white boat at 6:33 is my penguin phantom, she is called Despicable. We were probably diving for crays. I have had the kids spearing around the wreck, they shot banded sweep, crested morwong, wrasse and glass eyed perch and a good skippy. All good beginners species.

Are they really not good eating as people say or did I make a mistake not popping one. Looked like they had a considerably large amount of fillet on them

Glad to see you have the family with you now mate , must of been a hard slog not having them beautiful people around you when you go home from working so hard. Have to say man big kahunas swimming out that far in WA with the big whites around ,would scare the crap out me doing that . Te up a trip north with the boys or fam , watch ybs youngbloods the water vis & fishing is crazy (he is a bit too but the best I’ve watched ) & from what I’ve seen no white monsters only tigers , keep up the good vids mate.

The fear of sharks never goes away but you soon learn to live with it, there's no avoiding potential encounters really.
I encountered my first 3mtr tiger shark a few months ago on my second dive here and luckily it showed no aggression.

You should probably go back to that shipwreck one day, but do it on a boat with 2x dive buddies. The way I would do it is use a large inflatable with say 15hp, have 2x divers in the water as a pair and 1 stays on boat watching. If the 2x divers get in any trouble with current, they can signal for help and boatman can rescue. All divers in water to carry a safety sausage too, the signalling device scuba divers use. That way, any problems with current and the boat guy can rescue you. This is how I plan to dive Motunau island one day, it has currents too.
The plan is to go back one day in a boat yeah. Not too fussed on doing that anything soon. There are far better spots accessible by boat. Unfortunately this was the closest and fastest option I had to dive with the minimal time I had. A lot of thought went into it though and I definitely knew there would be current there. Glad I pulled away before it got too strong for my little ol legs

Hey mate! Great vids. I hope all is going well now that your fam are here with you. I, too, have made the big move from the east and now live in Butler just recently. The west has got me.back into spearfishing. I dont know any people that spearfish around me. But I've been doing a few shore dives lately and loving what's out here. However, I do believe in having a buddy with you when out at sea. I see you're FIFO, but if you're keen for a shore dive on your down days and dont want to do it alone, I'd be happy to come out with you. I've found a good amount of Crays nearby. Cheers Paul.

Still a cool episode mate! I think once you get the diving sussed in WA youll find it really good. My mate also has dived a fair bit around Aus and said its the best cray diving around Perth - just will take some time to figure it out.
Yea cool brother, the biggest mission I've found here is that the reefs are quite far offshore and easy accessible shore diving spots are few and far.
Ideally boat diving be the best bet here for sure. I don't doubt at all the Cray diving and underwater life here is awesome!!! Beautiful species everywhere

I've caught more 70+cm snapps in that area than all my time back in NZ.
Dont get as many medium size fish but shitloads of 10 - 20 pounders.
Get yourseld a kayak and you can access all the reefs about 1km out from the wreck, heaps of small kingies and Sambos out there too. At certain times of the year its nit uncommon for the free divers to get their 8 crays out of one ledge👌

There was a fish when you dived for those crays called a sea sweep good eating fish and when you get the chance try Jurien bay or sandy cape they not to far from each other nice dive place but love the content

That wreck has long been known for bad luck. Said to be Cursed, and haunted.
Dived/snorkeled on that wreck years ago, this was when there was actually a skeleton of the ship that you could climb up, not that I did, didn't want to get cut up by a rusty piece of metal, maybe that was where the myth of it being haunted and you will die if you go on it, getting cut by rusty steel, tetanus. Certainly no houses around at that time either, felt like we were out in the wild and no way would I get in the water and swim that far from shore these days, just the thought of sharks keeps me on dry land. And fuck FIFO
