I have the dual screen LG V60. It's definitely bulky but it seems like the best of both worlds for now. A dual screen quasi tablet multitasking beast when you need it and a more traditional modern spec phone when you don't.
I feel the Samsung Fold approach will ultimately win out in this category as the tech improves and gets thinner and less cumbersome. For now however, I paid $450 for the V60 dual screen on a T-mobile BOGO promo and for that price my dual screen option is the winner for me!

If you want a Galaxy Fold I have absolutely no reservations in recommending them. I've had one now for a year and it's worked brilliantly and very productively. It's totally transformed my mobile experience. The screen is as pristine as the day I bought it, the fold still looks the same and virtually undetectable and everything about it has worked 100% every time. It's undoubtedly the best phone I've ever had. But I'll certainly upgrade it to the Fold 2 when that becomes available in the UK as the front screen is bigger and the inside one is bigger too.

It seems like every TH-cam channel wants to talk about the price of these Samsung devices being outlandish. I traded in a old note device and now the fold is much closer to the cost of the note 20 ultra. I understand the note 20 ultra is still rather expensive but this device gives me a phone and a tablet in one. I am a truck driver and travel often so I look forward to having a phone that lets me cut down on other electronics that I need to pack and charge! Now thanks to Microsoft and the Samsung fold I will be able to play my Xbox games as well! The other thing to consider is when the fold is in phone mode, I should be able to do most everything one handed. As someone who has valued the note series for having a large screen at all times I have not been able to one hand a phone since 2012. I look forward to not having to compromise! Add SD card support, an IPA rating, and figure out a way that I can use an s pen on the soft screen and I think the fold will be perfect! I also love the surface duo however it needs a lot more! It needs better cameras, wireless charging, a IPA rating, and the newest processors. It has already figured out the pen though! All I am saying is I look forward to the future and where we are headed with these innovations! I truly believe that these devices will have a lot of different uses for a lot of different people based on there needs.

This let you watch the slides and interact on the video call on two fairly large screens at the same time.

Foldable phones have been such a conundrum but have always been some thing on my mind and I really appreciate seeing the verges review.
As an artist, I find myself working with mobile art software but always limited by the size of a small screen. So have a foldable phone seems like a great idea in theory, if I didn’t break my wallet. But with the price even higher than a tablet and phone together, There doesn’t seem to be much incentive to buy one. There doesn’t seem to be much incentive to buy one.
At another point, my friends were mocking the phones comparing some of the following phones to their Nintendo DS, but it was a great year in theory, having an experimental gamepad, but with no other purpose.
I really hope phones that fold can penetrate markets of different economic levels and expand outside the niches, it’s really exciting to see the developments over the past few years!!

It's too early for foldable phones. There, done. In 5 years we'll be laughing at the design of the Z fold 2.
That being said, I don't think folding phones will replace normal phones any time soon. From a materials perspective (speaking as someone who knows a fair bit about glass and crystal chemistry and synthesis), we are really no where near the level we need to be at before foldable displays become durable enough for the mainstream. It needs a revolution in materials science, and while I know of a few things that are currently looking promising, they are a long way off mass production.
In terms of durability, cost and the needs of average people, candy bar phone design will dominate for a long time to come.

I’ve used an iPad mini at home, nearly everyday for five years. I do t have a keyboard case for it, and I don’t have it in a cover. Ive never wanted to fold it in half. Come to think of it, I use it at home, but I don’t think I’ve ever amen it to work or away from home - I have my phone for that. That being said, I do have a laptop with a 360° hinge, and I do take that out of the house. I’ve used it at coffee shops and offices, and people always look a little shocked when I hand them a pen, fold it over backwards, hand it to them and ask them to sign a document. I can see this working even better on the (unreleased) Surface Neo.

Because "normal phone you flip shut" and "thick phone you unfold into a tablet" are so different, I don't see those going away. I CAN see the "two separate screens" idea going away if we can get the hinges and screens material high enough in foldable screens; then there may just be either with or without external screen flavors... although I can also see the two screened guys getting a foothold with a good physical keyboard, that would be more difficult to implement on the single screen devices! The Neo should be particularly interesting...

Ignoring LG and not even mentioning the MateX?.. So much biases from those "tech reviewers". The fold2 is paving the way for the future, but the Lg Velvet is the one that makes more sense right now, versatile, good for multi-tasking and way more affordable.

  • @Younex

For me i like Z Fold2 more than the Duo, i mean you can have multitasking on the Z fold without the gap between the two screens, and you have a outside screen to do something quick like sending a message, check the weather, and you have a big screen to enjoy TH-cam/Netflix

  • @justinspight1323

I literally just pre-ordered the Z Fold 2. I use my tablet and phone a lot and it's cumbersome to carry them around plus then I have to get a case to stand them up when I'm watching media or showing content so having both in one is very convenient. I multitask a lot too and having those multitasking features is very good for me. If I bought a tab s7, and a galaxy note 20 it would cost as much or more than the z fold 2 so its worth it

Dieter: with the original Fold, since the cover display was so small, your interactions were brief with it. But with Fold2, and its bigger front display, are you finding yourself spending more time on the cover display, thus negating this idea of having to use the phone more intentionally, like with Fold 1?

To anyone complaining about the crease on Samsung foldables:
Do YOU ever PURPOSELY browse the web, watch a video, etc on your glass screen phone or tablet and think to yourself: "Let me make sure I have indoor lighting or outdoor sunlight shining or reflecting DIRECTLY on my screen while I use it."???
If your answer is NO, then the crease won't be visible on the Z Fold 2 under normal usage just like it's not visible on the 1st gen Galaxy Fold or the Z Flip under normal usage.

I want Duo to be in my bag when I am on the go. All I need is my bluetooth headset and maybe a smartwatch for more interactivity. Then when I have the time, or on the train etc. I can open up my Duo and use it. This would help reducing the compulsive need to touch and use my smartphone for sure.

  • @dgmojojojo

I think the most sensible in terms of practical of usage one is Surface Duo. Oh and also saying LG way of folding thick is ..misleading? It’s also could interpreted as a very thin if you remove the case since it is also a folding capable device with flexibility that could be thinner without it’s 2nd screen.

  • @ourcore
    @ourcore 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I don't keep my phone in my bag, though, so while a Flip is cool in concept, it's not very practical 'cause it would just stand out more in my pocket where there's already plenty of vertical space. I like the Fold idea more 'cause it gives you a screen size that you otherwise wouldn't be able to carry as easily, but it's still a little too thick

The duo is to wide to fit in my pocket. The Z Fold 2 is too thick to fit in my pocket. The Z Flip is the phone best suited to me.
    However...
Slim down those bezels on the Duo till they're barely an inconvenience, stick three screens instead of two, so it's a proper Z shaped design and keep that nice slimness and you'd have a proper sized phone that worked as a proper sized tablet. That would be a phone worth spending ks on.

I think the line between the dual screen and big fold phone is going to blur more in future. The dual screen will reduce the gap between screen more (maybe using edge corner). And with the Z Fold2 flex mode, this means apps are going to be optimized with separation in exactly the middle.
Unfortunately, that'll also make another fold concept less desireable, like those with 3x fold or folding not in middle equally, because no apps are going to optimize for that form factor.

I despise the current phone slab design precisely because I'm constantly desiring to have two apps open at once. When I'm writing notes on a screenplay I love to pull up images or quick jump into Google to do a quick bit of research. When I'm watching a product review on TH-cam, I like to quickly check the current pricing on Amazon, B&H Photo, Adorama, etc. Checking email is a hassle because I prefer a flyout window to read the actual email content while keeping the list of emails visible. Microsoft Edge has this cool Collections feature that I use on the Desktop and phone allowing me to organize my research and key links. I keep Collections open in the Edge browser on the desktop. I wish I could do the same on mobile.
