I own a 2019 RE Interceptor, one of the earliest models since its launch in Nov 2018. Purchased in Jan 2019, it initially had a wobbling issue above 100 kmph. Surprisingly, a simple fix resolved it. A puncture led me to a local tyre shop, where I discovered the tube was incorrect for an 18-inch rim, likely intended for a Honda Unicorn or Shine. Changing to the correct size tube eradicated the wobble, even at speeds of 160 kmph. Check your front tube size - it should be 100/90/18.

Thank you so much for sharing this valuable feedback. The Interceptor 650 now comes with Ceat Tyres, but they are not tubeless. Otherwise I’d have gone with them only.
Sad that people at RE showrooms will not look into this as their main goal is always going to be sales. Best to write to RE directly and sharing video feedback. I’ll try this once and address this issue.

Sometimes the problem is with the wheel's balance. They do this every time they change the tires, so perhaps it wasn't the tire after all.

I made a mistake. I am actually running 17 rear and 18 front. I swapped the rear rim to the front for the new wider profile tyre and replaced the rear with a Racing Boy 17" 4.50 rim.
Don't ask me why i did that i am new to motorcycles(clueless) and this is a common and popular mod amongst the twin riders here in Thailand so I went along with it. Lol. Good thing is, it turned out good(beginner's luck lol).
Bike feels more eager to lean and those mt60rs give me alot more confidence than the stock pirellis. Wobbling went away like magic. Thank God.
The stance of the bike changed a little. More aggressive now imho.
Total damage was less than 500 dollars all in. 1 rim, tyres front and rear and balancing, alignment. It was alot of work. But worth it. :)

Use the tyre depth measuring tool to measure the tyre depth. Many a time the tyres 'look' good but are not. So that is the only sure shot way to find out. If the tool says the tyre is worn out then you know the solution.

    Questions come to mind:
    1) Did you check the balance of both wheels? The tires might have had uneven mass distribution, which manifested in a wobble as the rubber gradually wore down.
    2) Did you check the lateral runout of both wheels with a dial indicator? The tire may have gotten distorted with wear, or the rims may have gone non-planar or non-perpendicular with the axis of rotation.
    3) Did you check the radial runout of both wheels with a dial indicator? The over-tightening of a spoke points to this having been a problem the mechanic found.
    4) Was the steering quicker when you went to tubeless tires?

On our recent trip (myself, same pillion and around 30kg of luggage), I noticed wobbling at 80kmph and haven't been able to understand the reason. As we are back now, I am yet to try out again and see if the wobbling still exists (with the pillion but without the luggage). A little context before I ask you this... Update of my Wobbling 650 : after 3 years my Bike suddenly started Wobbling. I went to the showroom let them check and nothing happened. But after 6-7 months I changed my front tyres too but it still didn't help, it was still wobbling, But last week i changed my Interceptor 650 Bolt Bearing Racer, and suddenly the wobbling never occurred anymore. It was stable as a Rock.

Unlikely to be the tires, unless the tires were not balanced - then you should have your tires balanced. if you were being very picky you would ask a machine shop to balance you wheel without a tire in a machine shop. then back at the garage balance the tire on the wheel. The wobble was most likely caused by incorrect tension on the wire spokes. the rims could also be distorted also a very common issue. Another contributory factor could have a single weight fork oil. dirt inside one fork leg also can cause this. But the usual cause is a bent or out of true fork leg. If you have a problem and your mechanic didn't fix then your going to the wrong mechanic and you risk doing serious damage to your bike

    • @SrinivasGanesh
      @SrinivasGanesh  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for your input brother. The tyres were balanced, once from the certified RE service center and one from a reputed workshop outside of RE. The tension was resolved and the wobbling was still there. As in, on the machine it was spinning without any fuss and wobble. But starts to wobble when the bike was on the road again. And Like I mentioned in the video, I got the fork oils checked as well. They were intact. No sign of leakage, dirt, etc. i went a step further and installed front adjustable suspensions from YSS, using a different grade oil. Then checked the forks for signs of bending, there weren’t any. So final solution, as stated in the video, was to change the tyre. I did, and now no wobble at speeds above 80 till 120. I’m happy.

I had the same problem with my Continental GT650 , brand new at 120 km/h very very wobble, from my experience it was a problem in the wheel balance, I take it to the dealership and ask to check wheel balance, they said that it as ok but I think they did nothing because the problem continues, my bike is stock with tires and rubber tube. After 4000 km the problem is vanished……. Maybe the tire, rim and rubber tube all have matched in the end. But the wobbly is bad wheel balance or tire deformation

    • @SrinivasGanesh

Personally if I had a wobble like that allways check the cost free solutions first. Air, tyre weights (blance) and spoke flex. Once checked them and not the issue tyre quality and alignment. The fork oil levels I wouldn't of had tested and as there a few simple cost free checks you can do to see of you lost any oil in forks with testing the dive and rebound.
And headstock bearing if you put bike on centre stand you grab the front wheel you can feel for flex at both dead stops..

Problems? No problems, slight wider rear tyre meaning more contact patch on the road for better traction. It is very much safe to do so. It sits comfortably between the sprocket and the swing arm. Fuel consumption remains unchanged at 24-25 kmpl in city under ideal conditions. I’m not that enthusiastic in reaching top speed. I whole heartedly believe in cruising at under 120 kmph.
