It's funny that they say at the beginning "No one settles here, they just give up."---Because honestly, I am a diehard Wolverines fan, but have lived in Colorado (place of birth), New York, and Colorado again for my whole life-----but when I have visited Ypsilanti, I have always thought I could live there and when I finish my doctorate here in Colorado, I am looking to move there! No lie.
It's actually a pretty good place to live now. Close to so many things, great under the radar places to eat and drink and it's actually pretty affordable. I'd live there if I wasn't stuck in Texas.
My parents went to U of Toledo when I was a kid and EMU used the Hurons for their teams at the time. Some time later, they dropped their Native American mascot and shifted to the ridiculously vanilla Eagles. When I attended Eastern in the late 90s, I too felt that they had missed a golden opportunity to use a unique mascot like the Emus.
As someone who lives in Michigan I never once looked at eastern Michigan when I was looking at colleges. Their football program was lacking compared to central and western but with a 2.4 gpa western would’ve been my only option. I never tried because I never went to college but if I go to college I might have to look into eastern Michigan
@EKREBORN573 it’s D2 tho I was looking for D1 but my buddy went to SVSU so that was my other option I didn’t even think about GVSU because those two are rivals😂😂
Funny enough Ypsilanti (the town EMU is in) is named after a Greek war hero and had/still has a pretty big greek population that was an influx from Detroit during the peak of the auto industry. There’s even a statue of the guy and a Greek flag flying next to the American one in front of a famous water tower near the university
from the start of the football program in 1891-1999 EMU was a pretty solid middle tier football team, 10 conference titles, couple bowl appearances, and 457-507, 22-49 v CMU and 20-13 vs WMU but man the 2000s truly killed their momentum, every coach from 2000-2013 was 38-123, but Creighton got us GO EAGLES
Oh bro look at thier first few years at the FCS. The transition was nothing close to smooth. Meanwhile NMSU who also got kicked out of the SBC decided to stay FBS and just joined CUSA and played in their championship. Also not a smooth transition. Interesting to compare the 2
Pronounced, Ip-sil-and-tee, and it rhymes with the catch phrase, "Getting tipsy [drunk] in Ypsi". It's also the town immediately next door to Ann Arbor where the big-big brother, Univeristy of Michigan Wolverines, reside. Could consider it between Ann Arbor and Detroit, but it's actually more like a more affordable neighborhood of Ann Arbor.
I got a Football Scholarships from EMU and Kent State in 1987... I decided to play at Div. III...HAHAHA.... Creighton is a great coach... He should stay.. just ask for 7% raise every year +50,000 dollars and the same for his Assistant coaches with the 50,000 going to salary bonus
@@brettbeaver103 I agree with this, but many people do actually pronounce the Y I been in Mich my whole life and went to EMU but I prefer not to pronounce Y for sure
Jesus didn't save me from my priest lmao as a matter of fact, the church put him in a new state to find new victims. But yeah, just pray your problems away or something
You cant even pronouce Ypsilanti but yet you slam the town. Also, saying "MAC Conference" is kinda dumb (Mid-American Conference Conference?). Be better.
That was the funniest Ypsilanti pronunciation ive heard
Eastern Michigan legend Maxx Crosby
I love my Eagles, and it's so good to see them on the rise. Anytime time I see that block E my heart swells with pride!

@@christopherquijano1620 I agree! I thought it was a nice town.
I would love them more if their mascot was the EMUs like it’s supposed to be

EMU has a nicer campus than CMU and WMU.
@@miket5057 yeah I know but I was trying to look for football based schools at the time out of the three EMU was the worst compared to the other two

I am in the Marching Band in a few of the clips shown which is pretty sick
I dont know how. But i am such a diehard for EMU to succeed. LET'S GO EAGLES. Love from Greece

TH-camr pronouncing Ypsilanti challenge: Difficulty Impossible
Nice
Eastern has to be the toughest job in FBS. Down the street from UM, no history of success, poor academics.
they have a history of success but the rough start in the 2000s and early 2010s pushed them back super hard, but we on the rise now
The Fighting Emu’s !!!
Eastern Michigan is performing better than Michigan rn 😂
I think they can win the max this year
