From the first time I heard about PayPal i was sceptical of it's business practices. Even though all the TH-camrs i watched seemed to be pushing it as alternative payments for merch. So it's not a surprise they would have a shell company like honey.
A few weeks before all of this blew up, I was trying to buy an Induction Range. The website had a Black Friday deal, then Honey started processing when I was trying to check out and it took my deal away. None of the Honey coupons worked and it raised the price by $500. I didn't know it was Honey at the time until I started troubleshooting, because I only saw coupons being tried. After disabling Honey, it stopped. Normally, I had to press a button for Honey to work, but in November Honey would automatically start running at checkout.
Back in the 1950s & forward, there were 2 knobs on TV sets 1) Brightness & 2) Contrast. WHY ARE THEY GONE? I was just watching a video on youtube, a movie, & it was too dark, hard to see what was going on. WHY CAN'T I HAVE BRIGHTNESS & CONTRAST KNOBS??? (Note also, that radios used to have TONE control, so I could make the sound more bass or more trebel with the knob. Why does this seem largely gone now???

This case will go nowhere or settle. Anytime you click on a 3rd party coupon code and/or link, you are redirected using the affiliate link tied to that coupon code. This is not exclusive to Honey, and that’s the trade off for using those services. You can see the redirect with your own two eyes and I’m having a hard time understanding why creators are calling it a scam. (Huge fan of yours! That will never change!)

I am sorry to hear that they not only took money out of the hands of the very TH-camrs who advertised their app, but also from basically anybody who had an affiliate link anywhere, whenever somebody used Honey during a purchase. This may not turn out to actually be technically illegal, but it certainly is unethical.
I always thought the company made money by partnering with brands to offer certain coupon codes - not by stealing content creator's affiliate commission.

typically, when you join a class action lawsuit you can't sue them yourself directly. Since you are a creator that was directly harmed maybe you should consider opting out of the class action and sue yourself. you know the class action is going to result in pennies to the members and millions to the lawyers.

While Honey is definitely a thief, we need to acknowledge that affiliate links have made finding unbiased reviews nearly impossible. When someone provides affiliate links they are biased toward encouraging viewers to buy the product linked which means the review will be biased towards a favorable conclusion.
This is not right what Honey is doing, for afiliates, but as a consumer looking for the best possible deals, the issue is transparant to me and will continue using it.
That honey bullfish alway sounded fishy to me so I never used it. Same for all these other plugins, even the Capital One plugin. I have one of their cards but I don't use their discount plugin. Something very suspicious about that. If it's too good to be true, and all that.
Never used Honey, as an IT guy, it just sounded too good to be true ans right sleazy! I avoid all this crap and even buy hotel rooms and air line tickets direct from vendors. Why? Because I really like to KNOW my reservation will be honored... same goes for browser extensions...

Also, on honey, seemed shady to me before I knew any of this, just didn't know why, because my first thought was, how do they make money off of their product? The megalag video answered the question I guess.
I used honey. It never gave any coupons. I stopped using when the controversy started.

Sadly "HONEY" app was diverting to their pockets all while the viewers were thinking we are supportive of the YT creator. Tyler, I know that this was also address by few other YT'ers like the Den Of Tools.
I found anything Pay Pal associated to be shady long ago.
While Honey is definitely a thief, we need to acknowledge that affiliate links have made finding unbiased reviews nearly impossible. When someone provides affiliate links they are biased toward encouraging viewers to buy the product linked which means the review will be biased towards a favorable conclusion.
This is not right what Honey is doing, for afiliates, but as a consumer looking for the best possible deals, the issue is transparant to me and will continue using it.
That honey bullfish alway sounded fishy to me so I never used it. Same for all these other plugins, even the Capital One plugin. I have one of their cards but I don't use their discount plugin. Something very suspicious about that. If it's too good to be true,
and all that.

I never tried honey. I have one owned by capital one i occasionally use. I dont save much more than a buck so i don't use it much either
Never used Honey, as an IT guy, it just sounded too good to be true ans right sleazy! I avoid all this crap and even buy hotel rooms and air line tickets direct from vendors. Why? Because I really like to KNOW my reservation will be honored... same goes for browser extensions...
