- Calatron's shows the differences between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Trek Marlin. Calatron does a side by side comparison between the gen 2 Trek Marlin 8 and the gen 3 Marlin 8. Used the Trek Marlin 8 because the Marlin 8 has the most features straight from Factory compared to the Marlin 7, Marlin 6, Marlin 5, or Marlin 4.

@calatronscorner1998 you forgot to mention one of the most important differences... The frame is actually different. Different head angle, increased trail, etc, which makes the Gen 3 a more aggressive trail bike.
Missing the elephant in the room.
Thank you for the review! I just purchased the Marlin 8 gen 3 because of your video:) I noticed on my Trek the letters are a silver and yours are dark. Did they change the style? Thank you again @Calatronscorner1998
The comparison of the specs is good however context would be more helpful so when comparing the top tubes or the stems and the difference in sizes what does that mean?
So can the gen 3 has more trail orientated trail geometry, but can the gen 3 still be used for communting as well and still be comfortable to do so?
The bike could still be used for commuting. I would recommend changing the tires to something more street oriented. The Gen 3 models are coming with more aggressive tires.
Hey would you recommend the trek marlin 7 gen 3 or gen 2, this is my first decent bike and I'm wondering because the gen 2 is 100 dollars cheaper right now and the specs look the same for the medium/large size?
I would go with the Gen2 unless you really want to put an internal routed dropper on the bike later on. With the sale on gen 2 it is hard to beat
Ok I was also wondering about the polygon xtrada 7, do you think that would be a better option than the trek bikes or no?
@@TensoryRL The Polygon looks like solid bike. It has better gearing than the Marlin 7 but a lower end shock. If you have a local bike shop that carries polygon that is a solid choice. If your local shops don't carry the polygon I would stick with something your local shop sells. It just helps you if there is a warranty issue down the road.
Hello which one do you recommend for beginners? Better bang for your buck? Thanks
Right now with the sale Trek is doing on the Gen 2 models it is hard not to go that way. I would look at the Marlin 7 in the gen 2 with the sale going on.
I just bought a gen 2 Marlin 7 here in Sweden. 613usd on black week sales. Hard to beat that! Still waiting for delivery 😊
I have gen 2 and i have 2×50 maxiss minon DHF FRONT AND REAR THEY DO FIT AND DONT RUB
Hi friend, I have a Trek Marlin 6 gen2 bike. Shimano Deore M5120 rear derailleur with 11-46 cassette, 30T front sprocket. Can I change a 30T chainring to a 40 tooth on this bike? If you lengthen the chain.
No the chainring would hit the frame
@@calicycles1998So can I change to 40 tooth or not?
No
gen 3 has slightly better trail geometry , 66.5 head angle vs 69.5 on gen 2
It does, the Marlin seems to be getting closer and closer to the roscoe
